The fish is on display and brought in daily & once it's gone they are done. Freshness, simplicity & great taste made to order is how I would describe what they are doing at Schabis We all ordered the shrimp with sauce (Gambas aus der Pfanne). You get a salad with the entree. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the sauce (with a little spicy kick) was more like a rich, creamy soup that went nicely with the fresh bread. The potatoes on the side were very tasty also. It was a sunny but cool (almost spring day) and eating that fabulous shrimp dish sitting at bench tables outside was amazing! A great seafood stop & hidden gem in Sternschanze!

People like up and they push you to eat and leave. You get your fish thrown on your plate to finish it as quick as possible while you have people around you starring at you to finish up quick. The spaces are so tight that you almost sit on the labs of your neighbor. The fish and chips.. the fish was not tasty. It was not baked properly. Karo Fisch was better but also not great, Karo Fisch Fish and chips was more crunchy and we liked that more. However we felt that Schabi had fresher fish and grilled it better with less oil than karo Fisch. Karo Fisch im the other hand had more choices, sauces and was way more comfortable and pleasant to eat

The menu is a bit concervative, as they did not have a large selection. Despite that, everyone seemed to have been enjoying their meals. I got and shared three dishes: Hamburger Krabbensuppe (shrimp soup), Krabbenbratwurst (shrimp sausage), Nordseekrabben (North Sea shrimp sandwich). The Hamburg-special Krabbensuppe was a rich seafood soup with a generous portion of baby shrimp. Served with hot white bread. Grade: B The Krabbenbratwurst was a shrimp sausage. Personally, I didn't get this dish. It was a plain white bread sliced open with a very dried out bratwurst, which tasted like canned turkey. Even the side packet of mustard didn't help this dish. Maybe I am not used to what this should taste like, but I did not enjoy it. Grade: D- Nordseekrabben was a North Sea Shrimp Sandwich. Cute little baby shrimp put in a slide white bun and served with a little piece of lettuce. The shrimp had no flavor (I guess it allows you to taste the freshness?). Again, I didn't get this dish, as it was flavorless and dry. Grade: C- I took a bite out of my table-mates fish and chips dish. The french fries / Chips were nicely cooked, but the fish tasted very oily and fishy. Perhaps it is not the kind of fish that I'm used to eating in the US? Not a fan again. Grade: C- Nonetheless, it was nice to sit on the dock and enjoy a glass of beer.

This little restaurant which focuses on fish is really popular among locals and travelers alike…read more Came here today at the advice of my airbnb host, who described the restaurant as a typical Hamburg style seafood restaurant. Got there around 7pm on a Monday and it was really packed. I was eating my myself and asked the hostess where to sit- she said I could sit at smallish table with two other German lads. At first, I thought, how can I do that? Wouldn't they mind? But then I had remembered that communal style seating is quite common in Germany, so it was quite alright. It also was quite rainy, but that didn't stop people from coming in and queuing up to eat. My German was quite rusty, so I didn't know what half the things were on the menu (German only). So I opted for the Fischmix which a lot of people seemed to have ordered and enjoyed both on Yelp and TripAdvisor. The Fischmix, which comes with 5 different types of fish including tilapia and salmon, was really good and tasty (also a little salty- as expected as mentioned by previous reviewers), but I enjoyed the flavors and the dipping sauces to add to the fish. The Fischmix comes with a side of sautéed vegetables, which I ate with each bite of fish with some of the dipping sauce. Also, each fish entree comes with a salad, bread that's topped with pesto, and potatoes (which I chose the "chips" option). Definitely a hearty meal and well worth the €11.90 for my Fischmix entree. I'd definitely want to come back here again sometime on another trip to Hamburg and try all the other fish dishes. Hopefully next time I'll have more time and pop by Karofisch again soon!

The vegetables are dripping in fat and the fish soup is 1/5 oil 2) the fish soup was disappointing but the fish was fresh 3) the portion sizes are smaller than expected. How is it compared to schabi? 1) Better in atmosphere and choices and their fish and chips and sauces + free bread 2) Worse in how it's grilled, freshness and too oily However both schabi and Karo are cheaper but both didn't convinced me in their taste and made of of their fish m chips.

Liman truly blew us away with our first experience so we came back again and again. Here's why... Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is set in Hamburg, but a little further away from the hustle & bustle of downtown in more of a residential section, but still busier than a suburb. Reservations are recommended, but whenever we came here it never seemed busy. The inside is very modern, chic, contemporary, upscale and laid back. It was quiet and just made for a great place I would love to hang out in. Service: Apart from the food, Alice, our server was another reason we kept on coming back. She was truly amazing. She was sweet, funny, personable, made great recommendations and just had an addictive personality. Food: We've tried everything from the filet mignon, to the salmon, to the mixed grill, a series of desserts, pulpo, scallops, you name it. They never missed. This place specialized in seafood, hence its name and it nailed every single dish. My wife literally dreamt about the salmon with the pea foam or whatever it was after the first time she had it. Then the dessert! I could go on and on, but I won't since I only have so many characters to use. The food is exquisite... that's why we kept on coming back. Value: It's a seafood restaurant. Enough said. It's going to be expensive, but not suit & tie-dinner jacket required type of expensive. Bring your wallet regardless because you're going to want everything on the menu. Lol. You can guess my conclusion. Although, our friend Alice no longer works there, the food will still keep us coming back over and over to try more things on the menu every time we're in Hamburg. Make your way here if you're in the area!

What I found there was better than I'd possibly imagined --- 15 people with fiddles, pipes, Irish Bodhran drums, guitars --- I even saw a bass leaned against a wall, but not in use. Good rollicking jigs, and several hours of them. All instrumentals, which suited me fine. At one point I figured the only way to tell which country I was in was to listen to the two older guys having a loud conversation instead of listening --- and notice they were speaking German. Upstairs is fairly standard "Irish pub" look, but the basement decor's a bit odd --- the plaster is painted like huge wood beams and stone walls with "windows" opening out on blacklight-illuminated fantasy scenes. One section of the wall has a sea god who belongs airbrushed on the side of a van. Very odd. Food, eh? The Guinness was excellent (though a half-liter instead of a pint), and the fish and chips was much better than I'd expected --- I'd rate it as a good but not excellent chippy. I'll have to go try something meat-pie-ish, as that's a better way to judge the kitchen. The food was good, the beer was good, and the music was amazing --- I know for sure what I'm doing next time I'm in Hamburg on a Sunday.

The fish, erm... it's not a huge chunk of cod or plaice or haddock really, more like small breaded chunks, reminding me of Dutch kibbeling. I was served tartar sauce with it which was alright. I would have preferred something acidic instead though, if staff had asked me upfront. Tradition dictates brown sauce or vinegar. I would have even arranged myself with ketchup though... if I had been asked. I was also surprised to find out that the fish chunks had burnt into the styrofoam box, which apparently wasn't fit for its takeaway purpose at all! Of course, this is another of those very German places with an opaque €10 minimum spend for card payments. €7.90 is quite ambitious for that kind of food so I would have expected credit card acceptance, but I had to part with my last tenner and receive old metal in return. To sum it up, it was probably edible but I was still kind of underwhelmed, as I've experienced much better service at other railway station food outlets. A little more professionalism wouldn't go amiss. Ironically this is an example of a corporate-run fast food outlet that is surpassed in quality by franchised outlets of the same chain. Berlin's central station Gosch is operated by SSP and accepts credit cards as well as mobile payments even for small purchases. And thus I'll take my custom elsewhere in the future. If you are booked for an ICE train, hold on to your cash and spend it in the train's buffet car where you'll likely have better value for money.
