We do not write many Yelp reviews due to our busy schedule, but with Daniel Singer, we felt compelled to say something about him. He is that good.
Just a little background.
I've never been a good dancer. The best I could ever do was the typical two-step "dance" in the club with a drink in one hand, and rocking left and right to whatever song that was playing. My wife however, is a lot more rhythmically-inclined than I am.
We decided early on that we would take lessons prior to our wedding and would take advantage of the FREE 1st lesson we had won at one of those Bridal Expos. We had about a year to plan our wedding and felt we had plenty of time to set up an appointment with Daniel. We even figured out our First Dance song 6 months prior to our wedding.
Fast forward to about 2 months prior to our wedding day. We pay for 4 lessons up-front. At the time, I still felt we had plenty of time to learn how to dance ... I mean how hard could it be right? Plus, we had so many other "more important" details to worry about and plan, least of which is learning to dance. Boy was I wrong! I soon discovered (or was it rediscover) how poor my "dancing skills" really were. It didn't help that being the guy, I would have to lead too. On top of that, I'm not very agile (or fit) and have poor short-term memory. Needless to say, I was a little worried in the beginning ... and so was my fiancee. Daniel was great and helped us figure out on day one the dance style that would best fit us ... we decided on the rumba.
A few lessons later, we both had learned a few moves and decided that we wanted a choreographed dance. This change meant I needed more lessons. Daniel helped with all of that. He's so incredibly positive and patient, even though I felt like I had a looonnggg way to go, we felt confident we would eventually get there. After teaching us a variety of moves and helping us slowly improve the gracefulness of each move and transition, he also helped us string them all together in cool ways that matched the music.
When the wedding day came, my wife and I NAILED IT! Our family and friends were wooing and cheering for us the whole time. We didn't make one mistake and stayed in rhythm the entire time. For a person with 2 left feet, this is a HUGE accomplishment! Because of Daniel, my now wife and I, have another fond memory from the wedding to recall the rest of our lives (one of many).
He taught us how to walk-in gracefully and properly, and how to end our dance and walk-out as well. He taught us how to add some flair to each move, how to angle ourselves ideally for photography and for the audience, and where we should be looking, but always reminding us to simply have fun and enjoy ourselves and each other. He's the perfect teacher. He taught us everything we needed to know from A to Z, is incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and kept it fun the whole time. He never got annoyed when I screwed up a move for the 100th time. He's everything you would want for a dance teacher, especially a First Dance teacher.
We live in SF, and driving to San Mateo is little bit of drive for us (especially during rush hour when we go after work), but HE IS WORTH IT. In fact, my wife and I had such a great experience with Daniel, that we plan on continuing our lessons to learn some other dances. If you are "horrible" at dancing like me, just want an awesome, experienced, and fun teacher, and/or want to look great dancing at your wedding, hire this guy now! read more
