If you feel a little like Humpty Dumpty and you've tried all the kings horses and all the kings men, don't give up. Dr. Lopez may well be able to put you back together again. My life stopped overnight when residual whiplash from 2 old car crashes and an annoying yet manageable level of headaches and migraines exploded into my now daily nightmare, complete with a host of neuropathic, vestibular, cognitive and other issues. On a recommendation, I landed at OIM, an open receptor with no great expectations and having never worked with a DO before. And here I am going back every week to see Dr Lopez. Others say they can feel the difference right away. For me, it takes a little time. Days even, before I realize what's changed. Some of them stick, others revert and need a little more help. Each one is a gift that I cherish. I still have a road ahead of me, but for the first time in 7 years I am able to sit in a chair without intolerable tension yanking on my spine and neck, to lie on a flat surface without having to shove something under my head to elevate it, to walk as long and as far as I choose without discomfort. OK let me preface this review before I get into it. I have a lot of friends in manual bodywork and have been to different body therapists i.e. PT's and Rolfers. I've dislocated both sides of my hips and both shoulders multiple times while growing up, jammed my tailbone when I was in college surfing, I had a bad neck injury a few years ago surfing in Nicaragua, I've had multiple concussions over the years playing sports, I have a slight case of scoliosis (which we didn't approach too much in the session), and I have a pretty severe case of TMJ. After reading reviews of different osteopath practitioners/doctors in NYC, I decided on Daniel, thankfully. Daniel is hands-down the most simple and effective bodyworker I've ever been to. The breakdown - walked in and introduced myself, he asked me a few questions about injuries, allergies, birthday and that was it. - I laid down on my back he started to examine my body and felt over different areas with his hands that could be affecting my discomforts and went straight to work. - we worked primarily on unjamming my tailbone and opening my hips, did cranial work along with some work inside my mouth (gloves used obviously), jaw work,and lastly we worked on my right side of my collarbone and my right shoulder which he unjammed/loosened up immensely. It seems as though my right shoulder never landed correctly back into the socket after an old injury and was causing compensation in and around that area up into my neck I'd say Daniel relieved about 70 to 80% of all discomfort in the areas that we worked on in this one session. I'll be returning to Daniel next week to further peel away at these issues and to delve deeper into healing my body and to have it all go back to be in full working order. May 31, 2012 I woke up not being able to walk on my right foot. It was a painful, expensive summer as I was diagnosed with 'plantar fasciitis' and spent $1000+ on podiatry visits & customized orthotics & ultrasound treatments & physical therapy. Nothing worked. Then, based on a friend's recommendation, I finally went to Dr. Lopez in October. During the exam he asked if I had ever sprained my ankle (which I had a history of doing as a child!) and said: I don't think you have plantar fasciitis, which is why all those other treatments aren't working. It appears the soft tissues of your ankle never healed properly from the sprains & are giving plantar fasciitis symptoms. I saw him 5 or 6 times after that and my ankle / foot is almost healed. Needless to say, he can work with the entire body this way and I'll be booking regular maintenance appointments with him once I hit my deductible (for overall alignment & anything that crops up). Dr. Lopez has been able to help me keep up with my three little ones, work as a night shift nurse, and exercise pain free after 2 years of constant pelvic pain. He listened to my symptoms and description of the pain and was able to give me some relief on the very first visit. Subsequent visits have decreased the pain even more. He is obviously very knowledgeable and really concentrates on getting to the root of the problem, and not just temporarily fixing the symptoms. Dr Lopez has been treating me for low back pain for the past couple months, which was starting to really inhibit my activity and quality of life. I'd like to start by saying .. HE SAVED MY LIFE! I have had migraines for 8 years most weekends that lasted for 3 days at a time. So many pills with side effects did not help. I get them due to exhaustion and 8 hours a day of pushing on my patients. NO quality of life while socializing and travel plans are always ruined by a migraine or worry of the onset. Dr. Lopez was a total accident, I wasn't looking for a DO, who knows what they do, right? My friend told me to see him, she is very picky, therefore I trusted her. Days before I was going to start neck injections and future nerve blocks into my neck for migraine treatment, I met with Dr. Lopez just to try.. anything. He spent an hour reading my body with his touch, some very gentle manipulations ( NOT A CHIRO! not anything like them) and my body was brand new with in hours. I left saying thank you, but you didn't go right on my neck where the migraines start and goes along my jaw with piercing behind my eyes. He said just give it some time.. It worked!! He doesn't promise miracles, so he asked how long it lasted at my next appt. I was one to have long lasting results. He doesn't promise miracles or cures and doesn't make you return. He just wants to treat/heal you, see how you feel, then let him know if you decided to return. Better than going to mediocre physical therapy over and over again that doesn't help. I'm frustrated that a pain doctor would suggest 5 medications and needles into my neck before offering someone like Daniel. He's my go to with migraines, or treating nausea after exercise, or to busting my tail bone skiing and not walking for a week while he was out of town. ouch! He's my savior. I now can play, FEEL GOOD and feel balanced after his intuitive treatments. AMAZING! If you don't like your quality of life for whatever reason, go see him. He'll bring you back to what a person should feel like on your best day. I have to add here that when my tail bone from the left including the glute- I could not lay down or stand up without horrible pain that was exhaustion. But at the end of the injured week I walked home from a restaurant with this tail bone pain and I noticed my posture. It was insane? With all that pain below my hip, I could walk like never before with effortless perfect posture. I was so impressed and so thankful. He really does a full body alignment and I am so thankful I can walk up right without trying to posture up using the wrong muscles to stand up straight. As a hardcore competitive athlete I thought surgical intervention was the only solution for a pain free existence. Not so. During my moving, I must have done something wrong because my lower back was very painful afterwards. I could feel something was wrong with either a ligament, muscle or bone from my lower back but couldn't really locate the exact place of the problem. I was afraid to be stucked and not able to move if I was not taking care of the problem. I knew only an osteopath could fix this problem properly so I called Doctor Lopez thanks to the good reviews I had seen on yelp. Doctor Lopez "scanned" my entire body with his hands checking all the joints, ligaments, muscles, etc. He found out where the problems were and painless fixed it by manipulating my ankles, knees, lower back, skull, etc. It is just crazy to see how everything is connected in your body. And for good results, you need to work on all the connections! Which he took time to do. The session lasted 1,5 hours and was very relaxing and informative. I left his practice feeling like if I was flying. Now I am pregnant and I went to see Doctor Daniel Lopez again because I had pain in my back due to my growing uterus. Not only he could fix the problem but I found out also he could solve so many other side effects from my pregnancy such as nausea, heart burn, bad blood circulation and carpa tunnel sydrome, etc. He is a life saver and makes my pregnancy so much better :) Now I'm 24 weeks and he helps me to ease the pain due to stretching of the ligaments nearby my uterus, he helps my organs to have more room and relieves all the tensions I might have. I feel like my body adjusts so much better to my pregancy that I try to see him once a month at least. I will definetly go until the end of my pregnancy because I know he can work on my pelvic and prepare my body to be in better shape for labor. So it's totally worth it and it feels so good. i suffer from tons of tension in my body; around the spine, deep in the stomach, back and everywhere. conventional PT is pretty limited in its help - just strengthen and stretch they say. that helps to a certain extent, but when you're tight in many nooks and crannies, somehow i know doing that is not going fix it. i went to Dr. Lopez because my sister has had success with osteopathy in HK, and i thought it was a good thing to try someone who also did manual therapy. Dr. Lopez was very gentle and very thorough, and obviously understood the human anatomy and structure very well! some of his techniques were downright odd or unfamiliar, and i felt a bit skeptical lying there on the table, but the results were great! i could actually feel the difference in the hard to get tight tendons and muscles relaxing. Dr. Lopez explained that some muscles are neglected and hard to get to, but they can pull everything out of whack. makes sense! For a few days I was in debilitating back lower pain - making everything difficult from sitting and sleeping to working and taking care of my young son.
