I am new to the area and was shopping for a new dentist. I figured I used Yelp for just about everything else in life so why not a dentist. I had a lapse in judgment and scheduled an appointment thinking he was the best reviewed dentist in the area not seeing that he actually pays yelp to boost his business. I figured I would give it a shot because he did have some high reviews. Let me say everything up to meeting the dentist was actually stellar. Great office vibe and the hygienist who clean my teeth was very professional. Once the Doctor came in, it was a different story. I inquired about sealing my teeth (which I get done every couple of years as preventative maintenance), he suggested basically putting surface fillings on all the teeth I was interested in. After the fact I realized he could charge the insurance company more this way. Additionally, I had a filling he was concerned with and suggested a crown. I explained to him I have had that filling for 5+ years and it was only replaced to because a prior dentist did not like the silver filling that was there. He then went into a rant about how he would only suggest procedures that he would recommend for his own family. I figured yeah ok, I'm just going to get my teeth cleaned here and address any new issues in later visits. Then we get to the billing process. It took approximately 3 months to figure out billing. I have two forms of insurance that should cover 100% of the cost and has for years. When I got the first bill in the mail I called and they said they would call me back. That did not happen and I got another bill with a late charge added. I figured whatever, it's not worth my time so I would just pay the bill and find a new dentist. For some reason I decided to call my insurance company and they informed me that they were not allowed to that and they called the dentist's office while I was on the line. They got the late charge removed and had them credit me back the money. My suggestion would be to keep scrolling down on Yelp for another dentist. read more

I've never been to a better dentist office than this one! I had put off going to the dentist for two years because I didn't have dental insurance, and like a lot of people, I get nervous sitting in the chair! Once I got insurance, I spent a lot of time researching dentists in the area and was so happy to find out that this office accepts mine. I got a routine cleaning and xrays done with Yvette, then had to come back a week later for a deep cleaning with Rachel. They were both so knowledgeable, patient, compassionate, gentle, and thorough. They explained everything they were doing step by step and made me feel comfortable the whole time. I honestly felt like I had known them for awhile already because they were so awesome. Dr. Elbert himself is really kind and personable as well. You can tell he really wants what is best for his patients. They referred me to a specialist for some trauma that had happened to my teeth a few years ago and I can't wait to continue coming to this office for all my needs. The front desk girls were wonderful as well and very friendly. I also love that this office is prompt! They send you new patient paperwork through email so when you walk in, you're ready to be seen within a couple of minutes. They send you reminder emails for your appointment as well, and you can watch Netflix on the screen in front of you while they clean your teeth. The waiting area's decor is cute, and they have coffee, tea, and magazines for you. I left the office on both visits feeling like they truly cared about me and my dental health, and they made my dental experience enjoyable! I just switched to this dentist and it's the first time i wasn't in pain and I didn't feel ignored. I had a girl clean my teeth I think her name was Rachel and she was really sweet and big thank you for not making my gums bleed, I appreciate you listening. And the dentist is one of the nicest guys ever and he's to the point which is nice so yeah if you hate going to the dentist, switch to this guy. I hate to go to dentists, so when my dentist retired, I had a hard time picking a dentist I can trust. After checking doctors online, I got a recommendation from a family member to see Dr. Elbert. What can I say - the visit beat all my expectations. State of the art equipment - the X-Rays are done almost instantly on a computer while you seat at the chair. The doctor used a miniature video camera and showed on a small screen where the problem was. The doctor and the assistant were very gentle and professional. I had a really bad experience with Dr Elbert last week. I recently moved to the area, and had been seeing a dentist I loved in Northridge - I went once a year for a checkup and cleaning and have never had a cavity in my life. Dr. Elbert said that I needed to have a medium-sized cavity filled as well as $700 worth of periodontal work, which he wanted to complete at this office. He also tried to sell me on his own super expensive dental insurance and teeth whitening. Needless to say, when I saw that he recommended over $1,000 worth of treatment for a person who usually has a stellar dental record, I went for a second opinion. I went to Dr. Couch and Dr. Cho (also in Thousand Oaks) who said I needed neither of these treatments and spent over an hour explaining why I didn't. I had heard good things about both of these dentists in the past, and I am SO glad I went to them for a second opinion. I was really impressed with their office, experience and will definitely return. It's terrible when dentists try to sell us treatments that are not essential just to line their own pockets. read more

After five years of staying away from the dentist's office, I finally bit the bullet and went in to Dr. Elbert's office -- expecting a few hours of pain and a litany of lectures about tooth decay. Instead, I got a two hour deep clean with numbing cream (seriously, no pain at all), Netflix (I got to catch up on a weird British cop show that I'm now addicted to), and the nicest hygienist I think I've ever met (Rachel). Their office is super high-tech (a camera wand so you can see what they see, digital x-rays, flat screens, digital demonstrations of their techniques, etc), comfortable, and actually rather welcoming. When the cleaning was done, Dr. Elbert walked me through my x-rays and made several recommendation to improve the quality and longevity of my teeth. And then we talked sports. All in all -- a good experience at the dentist. Never thought I'd say that. But if you're gonna go, go here. read more

I am very sensitive to pain concerning dental work and get major anxiety before my appointments...like palm sweating, heart racing, dizzying anxiety. I would absolutely dread going to my dentist because I knew it was going to hurt but would go anyway and endure it...and I mean endure it. It was brutal. My sister-in-law urged me to try Dr. Elbert and I finally decided to listen to her! I should have gone in the first time she told me!! I told him beforehand that I was the biggest wimp ever and cannot handle dental pain. He assured me I was in good hands and talked me through what he was going to do and what to expect. He was so gentle and my experience was PAIN FREE. I was so surprised. The whole time I was waiting for the pain to come but it never did. I could feel the difference in how he treated my teeth with complete gentleness versus my other dentist who was so rough. Seriously if you are trying to find a dentist I HIGHLY recommend giving Dr. Elbert a try....You will not be disappointed. The receptionist, Olivia, was also super nice and sweet. Very welcoming!!! I went to this dentist because I found them on Yelp. I had a really bad experience at my other dentist because I am young and he told me I needed a root canal and I needed a second opinion because I was weary on whether or not they were trying to upsell me. I went to Dr. Elbert and sure enough my tooth was fine and was treated without needing to do a full root canal. Thank god--because I was completely petrified of having this procedure completed. From the beginning of my experience I felt as though they were honest and genuine and I immediately felt at ease about choosing to go to them. I scheduled an appointment letting them know I did have a dentist that I use regularly but I wanted a second opinion. I liked that they did not try and steal my business or get me to switch from my original dentist which I loved. Sometimes the worst part about the dentist besides the procedures is a pushy dentist. So I scheduled an appointment and sure enough my hesitation about my case was right. The doctor let me know that he had a better solution for my case and fixed the problem without having to do the root canal procedure. I don't like to bad mouth the competition but I felt betrayed and having been new to that dentist I didn't know any better. I now trust Dr. Elbert with all of my dental needs. Yelp needs to have more stars available, in reserve, for those times when 5 stars is just not enough! I moved here and needed a new dentist. Did a lot of research and found Dr. Elbert. So glad I did! I appreciate the digital x-rays, the ability to make crowns in the office while you wait, and all the state-of-the-art technology they have available. There was no pain AT ALL with the injection of anesthetic! Amazing! No pain at all during any part of the procedure to fix my cracked tooth, cavity and crown. I have a small mouth and an over-active gag response and sometimes I've felt claustrophobic at other dentists. My whole body would get scared and I'd have to consciously go through and relax every muscle. I know I looked really nervous at my 1st appointment to fix something, yesterday, but it was actually so much better than it's been at other dental offices. I think over time I will be a lot less stressed because I felt so well cared for by Dr. Elbert and at this dental office. Everyone was wonderful, very positive and caring. It makes a big difference to me when the dentist makes positive statements about how the procedure is going and talks me through each part. read more

Does your dentist call you the in the evening after an appointment to make sure you are doing ok? Does your dentist make absolutely sure that you aren't in ANY pain whatsoever prior to beginning work? Does your dentist explain every step of the procedure and NEVER make you feel like he's is in a rush? Does your dentist 3D scan your mouth, digitally model a crown and then send the data to a CNC milling machine right before your very eyes like you'd imagine dental work would be done on the USS Enterprise? If you've answered 'no' to any of these questions, then you should make an appointment with Dr. Elbert. He is, by far, the best dentist that I have ever been treated by. I now have zero anxiety when making a dental appointment. Between he and his incredibly gracious staff, I actually look forward to visiting the dentist!
