Dr. Lapidus cares about his patients! Recently relocated to SLO so we had to find a new dentist. I found Dr. Lapidus on Yelp and made an appointment since they took my insurance. The entire staff is friendly and professional. Have had a few repeat visits over the past few months since I had been putting off some much needed dental work. Even though I am a new patient, the staff treats me like I have been a patient for years. Dr. Lapidus takes his time with his patients and explains in detail what needs to be done and what his recommendations are. He is caring and compassionate and has a great sense of humor which puts his patients at ease. So happy that I found Dr. Lapidus on Yelp. 0----He never gave me any treatment plan for my teeth (enamel) that had been damaged from acid reflex and night grinding. My previous dentist gave me a night guard which broke. Dr. Lapidus replaced it with a retainer that did not protect my teeth at night. I was treated for acid reflex by an gastrologist that my previous dentist recommended, apparently Dr Lapidus never read my previous records and only after 5 years when a hygiengist told him my enamel was thin he told me to go to an othodentist. Never explaining what the plan was. Thank God I never went back to him and found a knowledgeable dentist that is now helping me. My enamel damage is very bad and I will need a lot of dental work to get me back to normal (or as normal as possible) it will cost a VERY, VERRY large amount of work and money. So thanks to his not caring able my teeth in 5 plus years I would NEVER recommend this man. read more

Can't recommend Dr. Lapidus enough! After multiple failed repair attempts for a front tooth I decided to see another dentist. Dr. Lapidus communicated my options so clearly, helped me to understand the treatment methods and what he thought would be best. The results were outstanding! Its been three years since I received treatment from Dr Lapidus, after experiencing years of extreme discomfort, chronic pain, and terrible lockjaw. Before, I had lost motivation to get any better. But the very first appointment he was able to diagnosed my situation, assigned a treatment and the rest is history. He made sure our appointment was dedicated to resolving my issue and for informing me what it was that I was experiencing. First, my dentist retired in the fall and he recommended Dr Lapidus. New Years days I had a killer toothache and he met me at his office to take care of my tooth. I had never seen him as a patient but he was willing to see me on a holiday. 2nd, I just had to have a crown replaced. I loved my experience at Dr. Lapidus' office. I first found out about his office by a simple google search (I was scouting for a dentist since I had chipped my front tooth). I instantly felt at home with his staff over the phone; they were kind, respectful, and gave me many options. Since I am a student and my dental insurance hasn't kicked in yet I was wary of the cost, but I was offered a very competitive price. Dr. Lapitus has an open approach to his patients; he really makes an effort to explain everything that he is doing so that you feel fully involved in the process. The consultation, x-ray, and filling for my chipped front tooth took less than an hour and I am VERY happy with the results :) I will definitely continue to go to him for my dental needs and highly recommend him! read more

I will start this review by saying that I hate the dentists in this area as a group. Their rates are lunacy, and the work second rate at best compared to other countries. But Dr Lapitas is different. This guy cares about me as a patient, and never gave up on me. Really cares. I have trigeminal neuralgia, and I admit that I was very resistant to that diagnosis from the start. Dr Lapitas is the areas foremost specialist in this condition, and if you have any chance of getting this disease, you can't find better hands to be in. He has spent literally hours talking with me, educating me on the disease process, and triple checking that I get the care that I very desperately need for this horrible condition. And his rates are reasonable. $75 a visit, for what is always a very thorough and knowledgeable... And HUMAN interaction. He spends at least 30 (many times longer than this) solid minutes with me every time, and calls on the phone are all included for no additional fee. This is what quality care looks like. If you need just a dentist, I can't imagine a better one. If you need someone to hold your hand through the nightmare of the facial pain of trigeminal neuralgia, there is simply no finer gentleman on the central coast. He works closely with docs from UCLA, who also come up and see patients at his office a couple of days a month. read more

Thank you to Dr. Lapidus and Dr. Ackerman for squeezing in my daughter who just started Cal Poly a few weeks ago. She called us in a panic that her permanent retainer broke and was poking her in the gum and was hurting her. After calling several other offices with no luck getting her in for an appointment we called their office and the person was nice enough to ask the doctor if he could squeeze her in and the were kind enough to get her in. Dr. Lapidus has been a life saver for this little lady. I absolutely fear going to the dentist more than anyone I know. I get sweaty palms and my stomach turns just thinking about it. Whenever I go I always need to have some kind of meds onboard to keep me from jumping up and running out of the office screaming and crying...seriously. It is that bad. But things have changed a little since I've had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Lapidus for the last couple of years. He helped me through a really horrendous root canal and subsequent crown. His chair-side-manners are very calming. He is gentle and so understanding of my unusual fear and behavior: it has truly been life changing for me. His office staff is excellent too. They went out of their way for me to fight with my insurance to get the crown covered because they were denying coverage on some technicality. I truly appreciated the extra effort they put in to be sure I was not stuck with the entire bill for something I really didn't want to do in the first place. That would have been awful. Dr. Lapidus knows his stuff. He is young doctor and so easy to talk to. He really seems to care for his patients. Dr. Lapidus has been my dentist for the past few years since relocating to the Central Coast. I was referred to him by my boyfriend who is also a patient of his. Dr. Lapidus is not only a GREAT dentist (the best in SLO county imo) but he is just overall a really nice human being. I had an emergency root canal needed recently and he helped me every step of the way and helped to arrange my appointment with a specialist. He truly wants the best for your dental health while also being very mindful of cost. He gives you options which helps you make your own decisions. His team is also great. I picked Dr. Lapidus (pronounced LaPEEdus) randomly from a list of dentists covered by my insurance, and I'm really glad I did. Dr. Lapidus is young but he's already pretty experienced and really well educated and informed. He and his entire staff, hygienists and receptionists, were really friendly, professional, informative, and accommodating. I have a history of gum problems and it had been about a year since my last dental visit, Dr. Lapidus went over my x-rays and gum measurements with me and explained everything, he was thorough and reassuring. My cleaning was quick and painless, two thumbs up. It was my first time visiting and I had just switched jobs and insurance, and the receptionists were really helpful in finding out what was covered. I have been a patient of Dr. Lapidus and Ackerman for almost 10 years. Both doctors are very skilled, professional and friendly. The team of hygienists is also great - very personable, gentle and thorough. Dr. Lapidus is very knowledgeable and I have had several fillings which have been easy and comfortable for me. The staff really are outstanding. Martha has always been fabulous and very organized. They didn't have an appointment at my desired day and time, so she put me on a waitlist and called me immediately when they had an opening at my desired appointment time. I enjoy being a patient at this office because Dr.Lapidus is very informative and thoroughly explains treatments in an effective coherent manner. All the staff are kind and helpful. I'm very picky on whom I let work on my teeth. I really liked Lindsey RDH but I've had just about all the hygienist employed here clean my teeth. As far as dental work, Dr. Lapidus did a crown prep about 6 years ago. My crown is still intact and decay free! All in all this is a great place to have all dental needs met. read more

My entire family sees Dr. Lapidus, including my 7 year old son, who has been seeing him for four years now. Dr. Lapidus has done everything for us from regular exams to pulling baby teeth, to filling cavities and discussing dental implants and orthodontic referrals . His front office is very friendly, competent with insurance companies and they never forget your face. My husband's mouth has always been a mess, his mother didn't take care of him when he was a child. When we first started seeing Dr. Lapidus, my husband had the early symptoms of gingivitis, and horrible cavities. Four years later, his gums are in great shape, his cavities are beautifully filled, and his teeth are so much healthier. My son has no fear of the dentist and actually TRULY likes him. I have referred many people with children to Dan because he is kind, and really truly cares about the comfort and care of his patients. His office has texted Dr. Lapidus pictures of a twisted loosed tooth in my child's mouth while the Dr was on vacation...just so we could make sure my son was okay...who does that nowadays? Look no further, you have one of the best Dentists in town. Honest, friendly, and compassionate, and concerned about best treatment for you. Dr Lapidus does the minimum expensive procedures necessary as a default, and does not push expensive procedures on you. He does an excellent job of explaining your options and letting you choose, but will not strongly recommend pricey procedure unless it really is the best option. Proactive, yet conservative approach to your dental health. My family has had the opposite experience at more than one location on this town. Dr Lapidus's office and hygiene staff is great, and his assistant Laura is highly competent. I have had multiple expensive procedures over the years. If can do a crown and avoid a root canal, he will. If he can use composite filling to rebuild a tooth instead of doing a crown, he will. These procedures can take same amount time in the bigger picture, but "pay" very different any amounts. What I'm saying is he doesn't let his pocket book effect yours pocket book (and your insurance company's). His office not as 'fancy' looking as others in town, he has all the equipment needed, but not the newest edition in every room. Overall very satisfied with his work, and his overall practice. Nice to have a honest Denist. For the vets out there, he also started his career as a Military Denist. He obviously learned honor and service. I went to Dr. Lapidus after not seeing a dentist for about 5 years. It was probably the most thorough exam I've ever received and the most thorough explanation I've received about what's going on in my mouth. I finally felt confident in the competence of my dentist. Made an appointment for a teeth cleaning a few weeks later (which was done by the other dr. in the office since the hygienist was out) and again, I received the best explanation of how bacteria & plaque work and why I should brush/floss... and not in a lecture-type tone either. I was very impressed with Dr. Lapidus and the office and will be going back to have the small cavity they found filled. read more

The office staff is very friendly and accommodating to your personal scheduling needs. It seems they can always squeeze you in for an appointment time that works for you, even if you give short notice. I do not have any dental problems, so I only see the dentist twice a year to get my teeth cleaned. Per my insurance policy, a cleaning and exam is covered once every 6 months. The first time I went in to get my teeth cleaned, the hygienist did a great job - but I didn't have an exam by the doctor, who wasn't in at the time. I chalked it up to a fluke. I went back last week, 6 months after the first cleaning, to have my teeth cleaned again. Like the last time, the hygienist did a great job, but I didn't see the doctor for an exam! He isn't scheduled to be in the office on Fridays, apparently! I have no idea why they would schedule people for routine cleanings when the doctor isn't in - especially since my insurance covers an exam by the doctor! I was extremely annoyed when they booked my appointment they didn't say something like "yes, we can get you in for a cleaning - but just to let you know, the doctor doesn't work that day, so there will be no exam." So, now I've gone over a year without a dental exam. LIke I said, I don't have dental issues, but I do have a cavity every now and then - it'd be nice to have that checked once every 6 months! For all I know, I could have a cavity in my mouth that's been growing for the last year. (and no, I don't usually experience pain when I have a cavity, so there's no way for me to know if I have one or not aside from an exam!) I'm glad I'm moving in a few months - otherwise, I would find a new dentist who is more thorough and gives me the top-of-the-line quality care that my insurance covers! read more

It is hard to find a good dentist, but I was lucky enough to find this one on my first try when I moved to SLO a year ago. There staff is amazing from start to finish. The receptionists are amazing! They went above and beyond to help me switch my info from my last dentist and find the cheapest way to do things when I had crappy insurance! I have learned something new every time I go whether it be about better hygiene or personal things about my own mouth! I just can't say enough good things about all the staff! I love this office! They are so professional and work with your schedule, and they don't over book. Every time I come in I am seen within 2 minutes of sitting in the waiting room. Dr. Lapidus and his hygienists are knowledgeable and friendly and always take the time to explain things to you. I never saw the dentist and can't comment. However, I heartily agree with the other reviews stating that the receptionist, Martha, is an impediment to good care and does not uphold a reasonable standard of professionalism. I always think people who leave those reviews must have provoked something; however, that doesn't appear to be the case here. At the beginning of the conversation, she stated they were still taking new patients even though they were quite busy. I began the process of scheduling cleanings in February (it's August) with her, while she repeatedly (and incorrectly) told me they did not take my insurance and all insurance companies had inaccurate lists. Once I read her my insurance ID number, she then said that they DID take my insurance (I know... I was shocked). Then promptly said, "Unfortunately, we aren't taking any new patients at this time." Um.... but you were just checking my insurance to schedule a cleaning? So now that we know you take my insurance, I can't be scheduled? This after agreeing to see my fiancé in 4-6 weeks for a crown replacement (and he would also have been a new patient - but no way in hell are we transferring care here). Dr. Lapidus may be great, but dealing with Martha every six months would NOT be worth it. If you want condescending, incompetent, power-tripping service though (rendered in a deceptively sweet old-lady voice), Martha's your gal! read more

She not only treated me unprofessionally, but would not listen appropriately when explanations or information was offered both by insurance and me.
