a plate of chicken and rice
Ison C.

Chicken Teriyaki First of all, this doesn't even look appetizing....the taste is way too sweet and the chicken is kind of chewy in texture. Not to mention, it's freaking warm....shouldn't it at least be hot? I m not even asking for it to be sizzling. Oh, by the way, the hot tea is 3 dollars per person. The waiter told me it's hand-made, which I tasted like it came from a tea-bag where the whole pack doesn't even cost more than 4 dollars.

I had the salmon poke bowl and the fish tasted so fresh and delicious. The waitress had a full restaurant but she still was very attentive! Definitely will be coming back when I come back to visit :)

I walked for 30 mins in kingston downtown on a Sunday night at 9pm and this was the first one that looked edible to me and was still open. I guess people here go to bed at this hour. Very nice dinner actually, Ikura on my bowl was generous for the $$.

Amazing service & food! There was an issue with our order and they went above and beyond to rectify. Beautiful presentation and fresh gorgeous fish.

Agedashi tofu. So good!

My favourite sushi is Kingston hands-down. Everything is so fresh. The sashimi bento is perfect. Agedashi tofu is amazing. The owners are really nice people and the service is great.

Shashi Lunch Box $14

Fresh, fair portions, decent service, intimately small. Totally average in every way but open when most surrounding (better) places are closed. Close to the lake is a plus. Licensed. $3 for tea a bit of a downer.

Would not serve us 45 minutes before closing, upon asking when they stop taking orders , they say 15 minutes before closing.

This one was one of the most depressing experience I've had in my life. The kids were even sad First the grill. It's not the built into the table ones, so no air vents above to suck up the air. They bring the table side one to your table. Second, we had to complain twice about the weak flames/grill and that it was taking over 5 minutes to cook the paper thin beef slices. Kids were starving. Second, banchan. The side dishes. If you've been to any decent Korean restaurants, you know that the free side dishes are full of color and flavor. They only have us these sad dishes. The kimchi was fine, I just wanted some green onions, spinach, bean sprouts, something. Third... no steamed eggs! I don't think I've ever seen a Korean restaurant without Gyeran-jjim. That's one of our favorite side dishes, so that was disappointing. Fourth, garlic. We love getting thin slices of garlic to cook on the grill and eating it in our lettuce wrap. They claimed they didn't have any garlic. Odd. Location, off of the main road with plenty of parking. So that was good. The servers were kind, but had a tough time with the grill to work properly. We finally had one of the male servers to swap out the grill and the meat finally started sizzling. I think this place has great potential, but if it's a portable burner and barely any side dishes, I can easily do it at home. We love going out for kbbq for the full experience of endless banchan. Our search continues...

My parents brought us here for lunch on a Sunday and it was a very mixed bag. First off, the…read moreinterior is nicely decorated with Chinese and Japanese elements, including a bridge over a koi pond (missing fish, but plastic lobsters and crabs were present), artistic pottery, many red lantern lights, and soft Asian music. Even the bathrooms were nicely appointed. The staff were also very friendly. For food, I ordered off the Chinese menu and my wife ordered off the Japanese menu. My parents also ordered off the Chinese menu. I picked the "Sweet Crispy Chicken" which was supposed to be crispy chicken with fried noodles on top. I assumed it would come with some fruit (pineapple or cherries) or vegetable (peppers, carrots, peas, etc.) on the side. Nope, it was literally A LOT of pre-frozen deep fried chicken pieces (like what is part of sweet and sour chicken) with what I think was straight honey poured on top. That's it. It was sweet and greasy but nothing else. When I asked about the noodles, I was told that the kitchen doesn't do that anymore. It was a one-dimensional dish and extremely disappointing. A bowl of white rice came with it, and the rice wasn't cooked properly. That is a shame for an Asian restaurant. We were not offered any hot tea or fried noodles in a bowl either when we entered. Just about every Chinese restaurant I have ever been to has noodles, and most Asian restaurants offer tea. Again disappointing. My wife seemed to enjoy her sushi, and my parents both enjoyed their dishes, so I guess I just pulled the short straw. A picture menu, or an accurate menu description, would have gone a long way to helping me avoid this in the future.

This one has like 15 vegetarian dishes; I actually can't eat all of them in one sitting and I eat a lot. The all-you-can-eat is a great deal if you're a big eater; I have never ordered off the menu. They also have a good deal on their very tasty Shirley Temples (drinks). That said, the mixed reviews on here also make sense to me: the food sometimes varies between cooks/depending on the day, and definitely varies between dishes. Their maki (sushi) is generally not the highest quality, but their vegetable/ pineapple fried rice is probably the best I've had, and I always get their fried banana, avocado salad, and edamame, as well as their tempura (though occasionally it's too greasy). It's a bit like the Mandarin, where you just learn to avoid a few things when you go. Occasionally you get something not great (in which case, they do seem pretty lenient with you leaving only a couple bites of something on your plate...which you can also slowly divide between your other empty plates so they don't care about the leftovers if you get something bad :P ) They have a great tablet ordering system so you can order several times while eating (esp great for those with social anxiety), and staff are generally polite when you do interact with them. Cute koi pond at the entrance too. Lunch is cheaper so I always go for that. This is the restaurant I eat at the most often in Kingston since I'm a vegetarian who eats a lot - definitely recommended :)

Small Korean-owned Japanese restaurant in Kingston (Princess/King)…read more They're one of the few places that opens late (11:30am-11pm); closed on Mondays. This a la carte Japanese serves great quality food at a good speed with good service. Design inside is nicely done, simple and traditional. Bathrooms are the stairs by the entrance. They serve do serve alcohol and here's a quick glance: Pop ~ $1.50 Sake (Hakutsuru) ~ Sm (120ml) $7/ Lg (300ml) $12 Other sake ~ $12-25 Soju ~ $18-20 Beer ~ $4-7 Draught Beer ~ $7-18 (pitcher) Wine Bottles ~ $25-40 House Wine ~ $4.50-25 (glass to bottle) What stands out for me is that they have a bigger selection on rolls than most Japanese restaurant. Check out their website online http://www.kingstonsushihouse.ca/ If you order items where miso soup and salad is included, beware the salad dressing may be a bit more sour than you think. I ordered the following (photos uploaded): Beef teriyaki w/ rice - Good beef, good portion and temperature Chirashi - ($18) Good quality sashimi and presentation Sushi & Sashimi Dinner Combo - (12 pcs @ $17) Good quality sashimi, thick cuts and nice presentation on China plates (not plastic) Bar Sashimi Dinner Combo - (18 pcs @ $20) (12 pcs @ $17) Good quality sashimi, thick cuts and nice presentation on China plates (not plastic) Flying Dragon Da Roll - Dynamite roll, spicy scallop torched on top. They were bigger in size than normal, not too spicy. I did expect more torched burnt flavour than what I got. The scallops were mixed with tempura bits so I didn't taste them quite as much but still very good and filling. They served some berries with chocolate drizzle as dessert. Overall, lovely place with good food. I would come back. I'm surprised Kingston would have this. Do check them out :) They have karoke upstairs too.
