Dang! We had been hiking and were in need of some serious Thai food. But, rather than heading downtown, 21st or Sandy, we drove down to Lake Oswego and were very delightfully rewarded at Dang's Thai Kitchen. We ordered both the fresh rolls (salad rolls) and the egg rolls (crispy spring rolls) as appetizers. Although they were somewhat unconventionally named, they were the epitome of deliciousness. The peanut sauce that came with the fresh rolls was especially good, and the flavors of mint came through ver well. For our entrees, we had chicken yellow curry (ordered extra spicy) and "The Emerald," also known as Pra Ram, which is steamed vegetables and tofu covered in peanut sauce. Both of our dishes were absolutely fantastic. I ate way more than I should, and still had leftovers to take home. So, my husband and I just moved here recently from North Portland, where the date night options run wild. Needless to say, here we were on a Saturday night, cravin' some Thai, when I read another Yelper's review of Dang's. (First of all, with a name like Dang's, its gotta be good, right?). Anywho, the reviewer commented on the "orgasmic" crab fried rice. I never thought I'd hear orgasmic and crab fried rice in the same sentence, but it intrigued us, so we went. It was great! We got some fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce (delish), and some Pad see yew, and the crab friend rice. So good all around, but the crab fried rice really was incredible. Atmosphere is average, the place was hoppin with prom goers, so I guess it wasn't a typical Saturday. Staff were friendly, yet very busy. I consider myself a pretty good judge of Asian food and this may be the best Thai food in the metro area I've tasted. The chicken cashew, golden calamari appetizer and drunken noodles are must-haves. My wife and I had dinner there for the first time last night. We started with the Miang Kum, build your own rolls in spinach leaves; it was okay, but we've had much better. My wife's two entrees arrived while we were still in the middle of the appetizer. We had asked for medium spice, but her Som Tum green papaya salad was very hot. She also had the chicken satay, which was alright. I watched her eat for over 10 minutes before my two entrees arrived, with no explanation or apology. My Chili Chicken (tempura) was greasy and flavorless, though it was a large portion. I also had the Crab Fried Rice, which was good and a large portion, but also a little flavorless. After getting a recommendation for Dang's from a friend, we were quite disappointed at our experience. Overall the service and food were lackluster, in my opinion. I have eaten here many times and the food is good. Not spectacular, but good. However, after an incident today I will never set foot in Dangs again. This afternoon myself and a few of my employees met a homeless young man who was collecting cans for food money. He was polite and kind and we listened to him and wanted to help. We got him some new jeans and a warm coat. Some shoes and socks and a stocking cap. He was clean and looked very nice. I ran home and got him a backpack so that he could carry a change of clothes and a few other items - he had only black garbage bags for carrying cans. He was so grateful and we asked him if we could buy him dinner. He asked for Thai food from Dangs as he said his mom used to take him there when he had family. One of us walked him to Dangs and wanted to have him sit inside to eat his meal. Upon seeing the backpack and they asked if he was homeless and refused to let him come inside!!!! Please keep in mind that he was wearing new clothes and shoes and he was clean! No one would have thought he was homeless, perhaps just traveling. I guess we should have lied and said he was a relative. We took the food and he enjoyed his meal on a bench in the sunshine before he left. How can anyone be that cruel? If he was not good enough to enter than neither am I. If we can't help the unfortunate we should be ashamed as humans and as a community. read more

Definitely the best Thai Food in Lake Oswego. I think that their spice levels are a little higher than the normal Thai take out so instead of getting hot I ask for medium. Food seems to be of quality, the veggies always keep their snap, and the lunch portions are generous compared to a few other places that I've been in LO/LG. I will definitely keep making the extra 10 minute drive to eat here over the Kruse way selection. read more

This is my favorite Thai restaurant, food is amazing fresh with great flavor, the people are super friendly and the restaurant is spotless clean. A great place to take the family for dinner. Our waitress was one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen and she she so nice and friendly. My wife had the tender beef and said it was the best dish she has ever had. Been a loyal customer for years. My family and I have been going here for years. We even followed the previous owners to there new location Red Onion. We moved to the other side of LO. So its been almost a year until tonight. The service was beyond bad. She was unhappy from the start. Our food was not good. We sent one dish back. Not edible. Soup was ok. ***This review is for takeout only*** Dang is this place good! (See what I did there? So sue me, I went for the cheap laugh). I often find my mouth watering when I dream of their green curry. It is seriously one of the best curries I've ever had, and we will gladly drive the 15 minutes each way from our place even though we have several thai places that are closer. You also can't go wrong with the Pad Eggplant or the Pad Kee Mao. Their salad rolls leave a lot to be desired though - I find them kind of flavorless and the peanut sauce disappointing (go to Luc Lac to see the rolls and peanut sauce done right!). We've gotten take out from them numerous times - I don't recall them ever messing up an order. There is usually a wait for in-house seating when I go to pick up, so no doubt is this place popular in Lake O. I see there are a lot of complaints on yelp about the servers not being friendly. I haven't really had an issue when I pick up my food and they are patient with me when I check to ensure everything I ordered is there. But regardless, I would much rather have bomb-tasting food than sugary sweet service any day - nothing to dock several stars over - food should reign supreme in yelp reviews, not service in my opinion. read more

Had our first dinner at Dang's tonight. It has a nice atmosphere and more importantly fantastic food. We tried the Volcano Beef and it was literally served on fire. The ladies at the next table stopped and asked us what we were having. It's now one of my favorite Thai dishes. We also had the Beef with Green Curry which was very good as well. I liked the food. Liked the location. Liked the decor. I even think I left a 5 star review before. The last few times I went, I encountered this rude and ignorant lady waitress. She is young, with kind of big ears. I saw her shout at a old old lady with a cane, kept telling her she can't go in since the table has not been set. She just ignored me when I ask for some refill. When taking my order she talks as if I was stupid. And when it was slow, she was being very nice to this male customer talking and talking, while we anxiously waited to order our food before they close. Consistently good Thai food in LO. The curry dishes are excellent. Warm and rich from the coconut milk, gently spiced from the curry. The curries hit the comforting notes just right. As much as I'd prefer brown rice with my curries, the brown rice has consistently been overdone and mushy, so white rice is the way to go here. The noodle dishes are also nicely done with plenty of the usual suspects showing up and doing a solid performance. The Tom Yum noodle soup is the real standout, however. The perfect balance of spice and vinegar, warming and refreshing at the same time. The soup is the soup I'd want if I ever had a cold. The broth is indescribably delicious. GF Heads Up: A number of GF options. Be sure to clarify with your server which noodle dishes are GF, while the noodles may be GF the sauces often aren't. Pro Tip: Get the Tom Yum noodle soup and add extra shrimp. It is only a few dollars to add the extra shrimp and it puts the dish over the top. read more

Some of the dishes are exactly what you'd expect in the suburban Thai restaurant, others are completely made up like the Thai Halibut dish which is basically Chinese fast food sweet and sour pork but with fish sticks. Here's the thing. Dang's food is not bad. I like it. I asked for "stoopid spicy" and they did not disappoint. My mouth is still on fire, and Dang it, that's what I wanted. 4-5 stars definitely on food quality. So if you're placing a to-go order, go to Dang's, get some good food, go home, and be happy. But this review is about the service. Every time we come here we are made to feel that we are encroaching on their space. They say they close at 9, which I understand to mean that they seat until 9. But when we come in at 8:30, we inevitably get a greeting like this: "To go, yes?" Or "Eat fast; we close at 9." Tonight, our server was named Cookie Bow. Or something like that. She made us feel absolutely unwelcome, as if our presence at this place in the last half hour of their scheduled time was an affront to common decency. Presumably Cookie and company have better places to be. Which is great. Good for them for having busy night lives and all that. But if you're going to offer a Dang service that goes to 9, you had better not make paying customers feel unwelcome if they come at 8:30. That's just jerky. DO BETTER! Mr Dang, you have built a good restaurant. Congratulations. When you opened the place, you were hands-on, and cared. But you need to come back and make your restaurant as amazing as you originally envisioned it. Shake this place up! If "Cookie" hates her job and has better things to do, please set her free! I live about five minutes from Dang's and whenever I want some spicy, hearty thai food without venturing out on the freeway- this is the place I go. The staff is very welcoming and the selection of food is massive- but never fails to impress. I definitely recommend the green curry beef, panang curry prawns with asparagus, and Pad Eggplant/Phet (i can't remember whether it was called Pad Phet or Pad Eggplant), but if you get it spicy it's full of red chilis...exquisite! Great tom kha soup, ambience and friendly service. However the entrees were too sweet that after a few bites it leaves you feeling quesy. Disappointed as they were spot on with flavored but the sweetness overpowered everything. Even when ordering 3 star. We got the D5. Beef from the special menu and the N8 - eggplant with tofu stir fry . Not sure we will try again as being heavy handed wth sugar is something many Thai restaurants find hard to fix. I have never had a bad meal or experience here. They are quick and to the point with your food. I often order to pick up and the food is always consistent. Always the same portions and its always ready in 15 to 20 minutes! The inside is nice! Its a pretty well decorated place unlike a lot of Thai places I have been where they really needed some renovating and updating of decor. This place is pretty Classy. I'd been wanting to try this place for a while; I drive by it every day, and it's usually pretty crowded. We had a short wait on a recent Friday night, and every dish being served looked tantalizing. The food was...pretty good. On the one hand, they use tons of fresh vegetables, which I appreciate. On the other, some of their stuff was a little underspiced, or maybe under-sauced? We started with the fresh rolls, which seemed off-the-charts-delicious, though at the time they arrived, I was contemplating which credit card to eat first, so I probably wasn't at my most discriminating. For the mains, we got lemongrass chicken , which was chicken over a bed of vegetables with peanut sauce on top. It was ok, I'd go for a curry next time. We also got the pad thai, which was pretty good, but didn't have all the good eggy bits that I look forward to. On the whole this seemed kind of like healthy-fied Thai food. I didn't mind so much, there was just a little sacrifice in flavor. I think I will go back and order something saucier, like a curry. I think it's highly possible I'd upgrade a star. read more

3.75 star. We ended up in LO's Dang's because we are ISO the city's best Khao Soi. We went on a busy weekend. The restaurant atmosphere was a little more upscale than most thai eating establishments I have been to in the Portland metro area. still most of the patrons wore jeans or business casual. The restaurant on a weekend eve was at 80% capacity. No wait. No line. We could have a choice of seating between the center of the room where it was loud or the corner out of the way. We picked the corner seat. After we were seated and our menu's were handed to us it wasn't until several minutes later, and strong eye contact with one of the servers that someone came over to take our order. The prices are slightly above average but the portion size makes up for that as one will have enough food for the next days lunch. They don't play when it comes to spice level. When they mean spicy they mean it. I can eat ghost pepper chips and ghost pepper salsa to let you know my tolerance and this cuisine was starting to get things really heated up. I will order medium spicy level next time. Mr. got the pumpkin curry tofu. He loved it and would order it again. The Khao or Kao soi is more like a curry noodle bowl and less like a broth based soup as per their version. More like a stroganoff. I like it better soup style. They put all of the toppings in the bowl for you before it gets to the table i.e.: Chopped coriander leaves and spring onions, Chili Oil/dried ground red chili peppers, pickled mustard greens, sliced shallots, cut limes and sweet soy sauce. I don't like this. I like to do that part for myself. It's fun! They also don't have any extra bottles of sauce available for the table. So if you wanted to add extra chili oil this would not be an option. All in all we liked it. Good quality. We would come here again. We would like to try a few different dishes. read more

My go-to Thai restaurant in the area. They are always very consistent in the quality of their food and service. I've been here for both lunch and dinner, and their Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and Yellow Curry are winners time and time again. Recently I was able to try their Tom Yum Soup and I highly recommend it! Because I've had such consistently good experiences here with both service and food, this would be the place I trust to start trying other Thai dishes that are less well known. Besides food and service, the place itself has an easy-to-spot location and a good amount of parking. The inside makes smart use of the space, is clean, well-decorated, and pretty classy in my book. This is a really good Thai restaurant. We walked in at about 6pm on a Saturday as a party of 4 adults and two babies. They seated us right away and were very friendly. I had the Pad Kee Mao with veggies only, it was cooked well. A lot of places over cook the noodles but these weren't. There was a lot of veggies in the dish (I think they added more because I didn't get meat, which I really appreciated) and it was very flavorful. I would eat here again. read more

Overall impression I give 5 stars for food and 3 stars for service. So four total. ;) I am a big Thai food fan and have been to tons of these places all over Portland area and outside into suburbs. This one is close by our house and we had never actually tried it. We stopped in last night at 8pm (on a Wednesday) and the place was packed. We had a short wait for our table (about 5 minutes) but that was only because the restaurant was pretty busy and slightly understaffed. Lots of people were getting to go orders and we grabbed the only open table in the whole place! Ambience The ambience would get 2 stars. Nice enough but nothing I would think of for a special night out with my husband. Pretty casual, we had a fun time and excellent food. Food I orders yellow curry and we split the vegetarian egg rolls. I always get a side of peanut sauce as this is a favorite of mine. All of the food was superb, delicious, well presented and tasted fresh and flavorful. Unique spices in my mild dish presented a fun "tangy" and sweet flavor that dressed up a mild flavor without overdoing it. My palette is pretty basic and most unique food is a turn off to me. However, I liked that they added cucumber and broccoli to a traditionally carrots, cabbage and potato dish. Huge sizes ( I could have split it and still been too full to finish). The egg rolls were so good that for a vegetarian appetizer I was convinced there must be meat in it! Too my surprise is was not meat but another inventive option, the egg rolls had silver noodles and veggies but also taro root (similar to potato). Filling and very tasty!! Here's our feedback on specific menu items: Stuffed Calamari- bland, we all agreed that we probably wouldn't do this one again but saw other reviews where people loved it. Missed the curry in this even though it's in the description. Tom Yum- flavor packed unapologetic, you better like lemongrass, ginger and mushrooms. *Drunken Noodles- medium is just sweet so we suggest more heat at least hot, noodles are a little dry but the flavor is addictive. Chicken is our favorite here-It is perfectly cooked and moist. *Beef salad- YUM. Very hot has a really nice kick! *Chicken Satay- our kiddos favorite peanut sauce is amazing. Lemongrass chicken- very good served with rice, perfectly steamed broccoli, carrots, and an generous serving of the amazing peanut sauce mentioned above. If you are looking for the spinach, cabbage or zucchini to be prominent you might be disappointed. Also for being called lemongrass, we missed this flavor. More like a moist chicken satay over perfectly steamed broccoli with a side of rice and peanut sauce. Volcano beef- eh we were neutral. We expected a little different flavor with the title I think. The pineapple and bell pepper were the big flavors in this dish. *fresh roles- I think we just love any excuse to have that peanut sauce *thai iced tea- sweet and creamy. We like it! My wife and I have been to Dang's a few times and have enjoyed their food enough to drive out of our way to eat here (we have experienced better thai food but this is better then most thai places). On 12/17/17 we invited some friends from out of town to join us at Dang's for "good thai food". Upon arriving, i waited a few minutes for someone to show up from inside the kitchen to seat us. We were not greeted graciously as in past times, when i mentioned that it was a party of 4 adults and 5 kids under 5, the hostess seemed a bit irritated as she walked off to set up the table. Our order was taken eventually and we requested a split bill. Our food arrived one entree at a time and spaced apart by minutes (we found this odd since there were other employees occupying an empty table in the dining area and you would think that they had enough employees who could bring out all the entrees out at or around the same time). The soup that my wife ordered required a an additional amount of cilantro and we attempted to flag down our waitress a few times without any luck. Our beverages were not refilled and we were not asked if we wanted a refill. We eventually got a "how was everything" after we were done with our meal....At this point we had to leave and requested our check. The split check never arrived as "split", they added incorrect items on the one check that was given to us. The cherry on top of this horrible dining experience was the mandatory gratuity for parties of 6 or larger. When i asked how little kids ( two 3 year olds, one five year old, and two infants) are considered as being part of a party of 6 or larger, i was given a cold and non conforming answer of "thats how it is, we need to give them seats and water too". I notified the waitress that we never got refills, our food arrived late and not together, and we did not receive proper customer service. Not once was i apologized too, treated as a paying customer, treated with respect, treated as though repeat business was a priority, etc etc. I had no problem paying the tip even though treating infants as paying customers doesn't make sense to me. However i firmly believe that any person providing a service and who expects a tip, needs to earn that "tip". If you, the owner of this establishment are reading this, you have lost a loyal repeat customer due to employees that lack brain matter between their ears in regards to how to treat customers. I was very offended and your hostess up front, that closed our check out, was able to get me from frustrated to outright pissed off by the time i walked out. I will go out of my way to give my money to any another "thai food" establishment vs ever returning to yours. To anyone that reads this, the food here is good, not great, the service was okay the previous times we dined here, this last time was horrible..the one time we brought guests with us.
