This hair salon is situated in a very busy plaza and finding a parking spot is close to impossible. Be really patient when you're trying to park but at the same time don't worry too much about being late because chances is that you'll end up waiting for over 30 minutes in there anyways. Minh L stated that the wait time is long. He is absolutely correct. I went into my appointment on time and I had to wait for the person before me for over an hour. Although Danell was apologetic about it, that doesn't really help if that's a common occurrence which is defeating the purpose of making appointments. Danell is quite a talker. Patiently sitting there waiting for an hour, I hear him covered up nearly every single topic that exists. From politics to music to economics to movies, and to even video games. I've been to many hair salons in the past and I do enjoy a good conversation sometimes but some days I just want to be left alone. He doesn't seem to know when to shut up. I've only been there once and it'll definitely be my last. When it comes to hairstyle, I am extremely particular therefore I do have a higher expectation. He talked as if he knows his stuff but the sub par result proved otherwise. There were approximately 8 working stations but he was the only one there doing the cutting. There is also this woman (his wife?), she washed my hair and sat me down. I guess she's considered Danell's assistant. Well she would literally sit right behind Danell and the customers, while they're getting a haircut. It feels like an interrogation and it's was awkward as hell. Conclusion: Danell is surely over-rated. Because my stylist was on vacation, I was forced to find a replacement in the neighborhood and made a mistake by trusting review sites with high ratings. Here's a good example of trusting ratings and reviews on websites. Will I recommend this place to anyone? Well I guess if you're looking to save some money, don't have any high expectations and just looking to get a mediocre job done then go for it. Good luck. read more

I regularly go downtown to get my haircut but living in the Scarborough area, I was just too lazy to go downtown today so I tried out Danell's hair design. I called to ask if I needed an appointment and he said no but he would highly recommend it. He was already booked up for the day but he still somehow managed to squeeze me in. Service Pretty good service. They are polite and friendly and has a pretty open atmosphere for conversation. He seems to really care about his technique. He actually seemed to care about my hair more than me. I usually just get it cut and then style it the way I like it afterwards but he nailed it. Price The price is about mid-range. You can go to other places and get your cut for about $5, but average decent asian hair salons are about $13 to $15 for wash and cut. The bill came out to $20 for the wash and cut at Danell's. I've been to places that charge $45 to $50 and get less service so top level service at middle tier price. Not much else to say. I'd go back. If you're going North on Brimley heading towards Sheppard, pass Sheppard, pass the first entrance into Auto Parts Source and it is the 2nd entrance on the left. After reading the reviews, I decided to try this place out as I've been searching for a good Salon for a while now. I decided to chance it and take my 4 month old along. While I was getting my hair washed, it was quite nice to get a head message, I sure needed it, Daniel was consulting with another client on his hair when my baby started to fuss, Daniel continued to speak with the customer and pushed the stroller at the same time. It was sweet of him to help keep her calm. As Daniel was cutting my hair, my baby started to cry so his assistant picked up my daughter from the stroller and entertained and rocked her to sleep. They were awesome, they went out of their way to care for my baby. As for the haircut, I said I wanted something current that suited me, I left it in his hands and he delivered, it turned out amazing, in fact I don't remember getting such a nice haircut before, it suddenly seems to have more volume! I've finally found my go to Salon! At the end when I collected my baby from his assistant, Daniel and his assistant helped see that the baby was comfortable in her stroller. Daniel did an awesome job with my hair today and I love my new haircut which is rare because I usually need at least 2 months before I get comfortable with a new cut. The atmosphere was nice to walk into. The place looks newly furnished and it was extremely clean which is an added bonus as a customer. Daniel has great knowledge and expertise in his profession and knows exactly what he's doing. His fluency in English and Cantonese and some Mandarin helped me to communicate exactly what kind of haircut I wanted. He cuts hair based on your individual needs and makes great suggestions (but does not force his suggestion upon you) based on your hair texture and your desire look. I loved that Daniel understands the "situation" with my hair and he understands exactly how to cut my hair to get the exact look I desire.I personally find going to new salon extremely risky because I'm always afraid of a bad haircut but I am so glad I took the chance! Why: After reading through yelp I decided on going to Daniel for my haircut. Since this was a life-changing haircut (going from long to a lob) I didn't want to take any chances. I usually didn't care who cut my hair since i always got a "vanilla" haircut: keep it long, give it a trim, long layers. My hair was so long i never had to worry about the stylist cutting a few extra inches off. However this haircut was was monumental and I didn't want to go to places that were hit or miss... I needed this to go well and Daniel had near perfect reviews which was enough for me to trust him with my locks. Experience: The salon was clean, modern and brightly lit. The hair wash was done by the assistant and was wonderful and relaxing. I brought some reference pictures for Daniel and he immediately started to let me know what he was going to do to achieve it. Me and a friend were getting disappointed with our previous barbers and decided to find a new barber to try. We ended up on Yelp and found this place, and I am really glad we did. After reading the many great reviews about this place me and my friend went in to get our hair cuts. The place has a modern look and is very inviting. We went in and got our hair washed first and I must say the massage plus wash we got was really amazing, that itself was worth the price of the cut. As for the cut, before Daniel started to cut my hair he asked me what kinda look I wanted to accomplish. After I told him my desired look he provided me with his input based on his experience about what would suit me better. Daniel really cares about his clients, every time I go he always is happy to give me advice regarding my hair when I ask him. Danell was great, he was very attentive and passionate about his work. After spending 7.5 hrs there to get my hair coloured balayage and ombré, the cut I received was better than anything I could have asked for. However for the colour, there could be some room for improvement, he had to redo some portions which contributed to the long duration. But throughout the whole 7.5hr he was very enthusiastic and made sure I was happy with the result. Although I didn't have the hair stylist Ray ( as mentioned by some other yelpers), throughout my time there, I saw 2 clients walk out on him. One client was having her hair curled, in which he could not get right. Another client was having his hair cut ( a shade, and cut for his beard on his jawline). He complained that his head was bald and jawline cut was very uneven, in which I agree. At the end, Danell had to fix his mistake. Overall I had a great experience and highly recommend them. I went to Danell's Hair Design for the first time last week, and I think I have now found my official hair stylist! I usually don't like to cut my hair, especially because in the past, my hair didn't have too much style even after I cut it. Surprisingly, I asked Danell of the same request as I always do at other hair salons (cut off a few inches and create some layers) but Danell was the only one who made it look the way I wanted! He took his time to cut my hair and layer it. He even explained to me how I should cut my hair in the future and gave me tips on how to take care of my hair on my own, based on what works for my specific hair. He was friendly and we had good conversation as well. There were many other clients coming in after me as well which shows that he is preferred by others too. Today was a really big day for me because I was finally going to donate about 12 inches of my hair for cancer patients. I've had long hair all of my life so cutting it short would be a new experience for me and I was nervous about the change. Despite all that, Daniel was very attentive with what I was going for (I brought some photos) and was very careful and precise with his scissors. His expertise was very apparent from the sectioning off of the hair to the direction he would cut. I once had an awful experience with a previous stylist who didn't listen to my request, yet Daniel always made sure to confirm lengths before cutting it any shorter. It's the second time I've been here and both times have been great. I got my hair washed and cut for $20 flat. The girl washing the hair does an amazing job, going through several cycles of wash. And the massage on the scalp feels so good. I want to come here more often just for that. As for my hair, I've had concerns about thinning in some sections, so I told Daniel and he came up with a style that looks great. He takes his time and is very careful, but he's fun to chat with, so the time passes quickly. He also gives advice about hair care and styling along the way. At the end of the haircut, I'm treated to one more head massage to wash the cut hair out. He also gelled my hair when I asked about it. While he offered to sell me the gel, he wasn't pushy about it unlike some salons. I'm very satisfied overall and I'll start coming here regularly. read more

I've been going to Daniel for 15 years! Glad to see him getting 5* reviews here and I couldn't agree more with all the positive comments. Daniel takes times to make sure the cut is what you specified and is consistent. This is perhaps why some times he takes a little longer and I can see some complained they had to wait for him. My suggestion there is to call him perhaps an hour or so before your appointment and he'd very honestly let you know if he is running behind or not and you can adjust the time accordingly if required. I don't need to repeat positives from other reviewers but I like to add that Daniel is very humble, unlike many other big shot stylists and will dedicated his time to you making you feel special. I used to go downtown or up north for a hair cut, but recently decided to look for something closer to home and found this place on yelp. Reviews looked fantastic, and was much closer commute compared to before, so here I went. Seemed like they were a little short staffed but Daniel was great. Nice massage during my shampoo and he was funny and talkative during my hair cut. I just needed a simple trim, pricing was the same as what I used to pay, so I don't really have complaints there. I found Daniel via Yelp and thought I'd give him a chance. Well, it turned out that it was the best decision I made. Two thumbs up for friendliness, great advice and a perfect hair cut! He was honest and gave realistic advice. I showed him a picture of what I wanted and he explained exactly how it would be adapted to my hair texture. He walked me through the cuts. I was in need of a change from my regular barber and I found this place on yelp. The place is really nice and clean and the atmosphere is great. I went there to get my hair cut with my father in law. We didn't have an appointment but they took us anyway, though later on when someone called they said they preferred people making appointments . We both had our hair cut by his assistant, I am ashamed I didn't ask for her name because she was amazing! With both of us she was very meticulous! My father in law just told her what he wanted, I showed her a picture and she got them both perfect. She was amazing with the layering on my hair. I booked an appointment and visited the salon 2 months back. I didn't have to wait at all. I booked only for hair cut, Danell asked if I would be interested in coloring and keratin treatment. I opted to do the Keratin treatment as well. Very happy with the hair cut. Keratin treatment was not bad either, the softness lasted for 1 week or so only., but no complaints since they already told me so .
