They were really professional and felt like cutting edge of community safety. Definitely support…read morethese people their jobs are crazy.

BEWARE: THE ONLINE SUBMIT A REPORT DOESN'T GET FOLLOWED UP…read more If I didn't know the chief from community service events, I don't know how I'd feel about this place. What's good: 1) IT access, email, computer usage 2) Direct email to the officers as they will give you their email addy's and even follow up. What has to improve: 1) THE SELF-REPORTING CRAP. Know not what I speak of??? Well, if you've got something small or seemingly unimportant to the operator then they'll tell you to complete a self report form and mail it back to document your incident. For stolen merch from my car to a break in at your home. Things over $5k, I believe, an officer will come out. I'm not biased against the police. I actually know they are needed and I'm not going to be the person running towards danger (well outside of the USAF) to protect you. However, they seem to be lacking on knowing more about the internet, policies on privacy from Facebook and even Yelp then I've had two misquote the law to me on two separate occasions. I wonder what lay people do when they get bad info?!?! I've had a 5 star ride along when I was pursuing an ADA position. Good guy really gave me the other side of life that they have to deal with. Like what you ask? Have you ever considered....what do officers use for the restroom while out cruising? When do they eat? What if stuff pops up at home? 2) Considering Madison doesn't have real crime like a major metropolitan and I don't expect it to - I don't understand nor can I say why the cops are always soooo busy that they can never take things via a call. I mean a break in...SELF REPORT. Stolen goods - SELF REPORT. Cyber Bullying - SELF REPORT I have a Stalker and no we're not former lovers = SELF -REPORT Ummm, yes we're both black but we don't know each other and this is battery = SELF -REPORT. (ok, the last one was for effect, but I've read the case where this was recorded and I'm laughing now but it's not funny) My most recent incident brought about the kudos of co-workers as they were shocked an officer even showed up to talk but it was after 2 months of dropping the ball. Then it hit me to ask the 4 people that were surprised they were coming to talk and every one said "oh! I've had friends that never hear from them." Or "Well, from the insurance claims we've dealt with they don't do much" I take the good & bad. We've had great officers volunteer their time every time I seek out one to speak to a youth group. I'm not bestie's with the Chief and I never bring him up or go to him with my complaints - I work things out as best as I can without involving him. He has other important things to do. I've had officers report when the Blackberry was in emergency mode and pocket dialed 911. I appreciated their unannounced show up for just in case something was wrong. I've had rude ones in my way but you don't fight with the lady carry steal and you're unarmed. Well, not if you watched THE DEPARTED. lol But I guess compared to NO PD I have to give them 3 stars since no one is raping women (that I know of) and I haven't been taught not to pull over for the police around here like in other places. I just wish they'd be as vigilant about quality of life crimes as the TICKET folks are about expired meters.

South Madison Branch - Loved the artwork on the walls of this branch

During the 2013 Savor South Madison Taste Race, I spent quite a bit of time roaming the South Park…read moreStreet corridor and witnessed firsthand the renaissance the area is experiencing. The new Villager Mall, the South Side Clinic for the Access Community Health Center, the phoenix-like rebirth of Taqueria Guadalajara and the expansion of the St Mary's Hospital are all testaments to positive changes taking place in this neighborhood. In my opinion, the best example of the area's metamorphosis is the Goodman South Madison branch of the Madison Public Library system. With numerous meeting rooms, a children's section designed to stimulate interaction, original artwork covering the walls and a boatload of computer terminals, this new building serves as a community center in addition to its library duties. Every time I visit, it's buzzing with activity. I'm a fan of the reading area in the southwest corner of the building. With its fireplace, comfy chairs, a multitude of outlets to plug in your laptop and free wi-fi, it's a great place to drop in and get some work done. It's isolated from the rest of the library, so the activity in other sections of the building does not serve as a distraction to the patrons in this cozy little nook. As Pearl mentioned in her review, the staff members are always über-helpful. The only negative I can see if that the content selection at this branch is less than the Central Library and some of the other branches. However, with the use of LINKCAT, you can access media from 53 libraries that are members of the South Central Library System, so it's not that big of deal. And with more stores opening in the new Villager Mall, parking can be a challenge at times. If you haven't visited this library yet, I strongly encourage you to check it out.
