yelper, but wanted to post on Google as well - my experience was that good!…read more Dr. Richard Mistretta is my doctor and surgeon And this is where we did my surgery. I was nervous, of course, but as soon as we walked in to the office, I felt comfortable and more relaxed. The front office staff were very nice and welcoming. Thats a good start! I was called back without much of a wait and was greeted by the nurse, Rene. She was also wonderful and made me feel very comfortable Including a warm blanket. She explained a few more surgery details and what to expect in the process I found very helpful. My doctor, Dr. Mistretta, had explained the process to me at his office but it was really helpful the morning of surgery. The nurse anesthetist, Brad, came in and introduced himself as well. It's so comforting, (especially before our surgery) to be with people in an office environment, where you can tell they love their jobs! I was very nervous about waking up during the bunion surgery and shared that with him. His professional explanation helped put me at ease and I felted assured that I was his only priority in that room !!! That gave me a great comfort level. The next thing that happened is-- I woke up, it was all over and surgery was a success. As far as I remember, they all went over the at home instructions with my husband and then we were heading home. The whole process took less than 3 hours. Another nice thing worth noting is that you park directly in front of the building...and walk in. Very easy access off of Roswell Rd . No parking garage , no ticket taking, just parked and walked in! Would highly recommend this center (and my Dr ) to others! Thank you for making this experience pain-free more than one way!!

They took the proper precautions and the staff was very friendly and helpful. My surgery went great, I came out and was wheeled straight to my car. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone having foot or ankle surgery. I'm fortunate that my surgeon chose this place for me.

I saw Dr. Cayla Conway, who is a great physician. Very informative, very open and approachable. She was very interested in my opinion about the orthotics and what I wanted out of them. I appreciated that. It took about 4 weeks for my orthotics to be created from the plaster mold, and once I got them, I had a few concerns about their designs. Instead of Dr. Conway making me make another appointment to see her, she told me to come by the office and we went over my concerns and made a game plan to adjust the orthotics at no cost to me. 3 weeks later, I picked up my orthotics a second time and they worked great! While Dr. Conway is a great podiatrist, she only has hours at the Ankle & Foot Centers of Georgia on Wednesdays. She splits her time at other facilities. That basically means if you want to see her and there's an issue, you'll have to wait until Wednesday. This wasn't a huge problem for me because I was simply picking up a product. Located right at the corner of Commerce and Clairmont, the parking lot here isn't huge, but i've never had an issue finding a spot. The interesting thing that i've seen many patients have trouble with is finding the front door. It kinda blends in with the walls and doesn't immediately look like a door, but just look for the knob (silly to say, but i've seen more than one person walk from one side of the building to the other looking to get in). Really enjoyed my time here and enjoyed Dr. Conway's great service!

DO NOT COME TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!! I returned for a follow-up and experienced the worst service…read moreas well as an attempt to overcharge for services. I believe in paying for services rendered, however between Dr. Wilder inflating the visit and the office staff speaking and carrying on in an unprofessional manner, responding to my questioning with "take it up with your insurance", I am taken aback. I asked simply what is the copay going towards and why is it an additional $217 dollars for a follow-up visit that discussed a test result? I should have walked right out when the receptionist began our interaction with "let's get that copay taken care of" with no eye contact. Back to the inflation of services...I phoned my insurance company in the midst of the back and forth of me not accepting that we discussed more than to two "chronic illness" calling for the visit being "extensive"; a code was mentioned that would bill this service. Dr. Wilder and I spoke of two conditions, treatment for 1; and they tried to say 3 or more, so I gave the code for 2 or more conditions to the insurance provider on the phone in real-time as the back forth was happening. By the way, I asked if the receptionist could hold on with my hand raised for a moment while I give the person from my insurance the code and she then said I put my hand in her face. Now she inflated the interaction. I told her that it was not my intention to offend her in that way. Continuing with the information from my insurance provider, the code that they said would cost me an additional $217, the insurance relayed that it is covered under the copay and no additional payment should be required. However, they continued to ignore this from my insurance provider and it concluded with they will bill my insurance and I will be responsible for all of it. I continued the conversation with my insurance provider after leaving and she explained that it does not matter how many diagnoses we discuss, an office visit falls under a $45 copay for my plan. It was very unpleasant and dishonest. Just code me and bill me for honest work. Don't try to pay all of your bills with one office visit.

I have a shifted sesamoid bone that is under the ball of my foot post-surgery, and it is causing discomfort when walking and swelling. I had also fallen down the stairs at some point after the initial surgery which increased the pain that I had in that foot. I had a follow up surgery scheduled for the beginning of May, with the initial surgeon, to remove the pins that were implanted as well as the sesamoid, but after my first visit in this office a CT scan was recommended since they X-Rays were not conclusive. My appointment was on April 24th. I scheduled the CT scan for the very next day and made another appointment to have it read in this office on May 1st. I went in for the disc to be reviewed, but after sitting in an exam room for about 30 minutes, they came back in to tell me that I could not be seen that day. They did not have Java on any of their computers and could not review the images but told me that my co pay would be refunded and someone would reach out once they had it downloaded. I never received a call. I had to reach out to them multiple times about the status of my images, and in the time in between, I cancelled my surgery due to time constraints and waiting for a response or appointment to review the images. I was finally given a time to come back in on May 14th and was told that they were able to download the program and open the files, but only after I called them. No one ever contacted me. Once I got there, I was asked for a co-pay even though the first one hadn't ever been refunded. Not a big deal. They just applied it to the new visit. I go back into the exam room and the nurse has me take off my shoe and sock. Normal procedure, except, they then put a scrub type sock on my foot and had me walk barefoot on my injured foot to another room to look at the images. My foot had a fracture that occurred after the first surgery, and it is assumed that it happened when I fell down the stairs. They knew in advance, since they looked at the images before I arrived, that my foot was fractured, and I had told them at the prior visit that it was painful to walk on that foot without a shoe on. Maybe not the best practice to have someone walking around on their injured foot. I am taken back to the exam room, and they go over a plan which includes letting it heal for 6 weeks with another follow-up before surgery can be considered. A magnetic box is also recommended to promote new bone growth and expedite the healing time. I am told that someone will call me with the information for that device, and I am also instructed to not take any oral pain relievers since they will further slow the healing process. No topical medications were named or prescribed, but I was told to use a topical if needed. Some felt inserts were given to me to put in my shoe to relieve some of the pressure on the ball of my foot, and that was the end of the visit. On the 21st, I still had not received a call about the bone growth device and called the office. The calls go directly to a call center instead of the office locations. After giving her all of my information she asks which pharmacy I use and advises that there are no medications on file for me. I explain that it isn't for medication, and she puts me on hold to contact the office directly. She comes back on the line and says that no one could speak to her, but she is sending them a message high priority, and someone will call me back. On the 24th, I still have not received a phone call. I call back in to the call center and am told that the message has been read, and what else would I like for her to do about it. All she can do is send another message, but their office closed early and there is no one there. I am out of patience at this point and her attitude was not helping matters, so my 6-week follow-up appointment was cancelled right then and there. The doctor was pleasant and seemed knowledgeable, but the office staff and call center are abhorrent at best. Patients do not really seem like a priority, and if you are told that "someone will call you" for any reason, prepare to be clinically ghosted.

The front desk staff was friendly as well and informed me of all my possible charges prior to me being seen. I appreciate this as it allows me to decide what I can afford. Although my issue was not resolved, the doctor used great care and methods to alleviate as much of the discomfort as possible. FYI, the GPS takes you to the wrong side of the highway. This business is in an old bank next to Wendy's.

However, I had to come back in and get another ingrown out that I thought I would be able to get myself. It left it a fragment which caused pain. And needed medical intervention. I anticipated the needle going into my toe and being anesthetized like the time before, but Dr. Johnson said it would be small and no big deal. He proceeded to use some freeze spray (which only takes maybe the initial sting away) and then went right in. He operated quickly, and intensely, being very rough never offering to stop or providing anesthetic besides the initial freeze spray. He made comments to me acknowledging he knew how much pain I was in. Stuff like "Oh I know, bad doctor bad doctor" and continued to cut all the way to the nail matrix. With NO anesthetic. I can only imagine this is what true torture feels like. After the procedure he stuffed cotton under my raw dug out toe nail while I wailed in agony. Don't think it's standard procedure to do that to someone without anesthetic. It was torturous and completely unnecessary. He showed no empathy or remorse and didn't ask me once if I wanted anesthetic. Cost me $50 and the worst pain I've ever felt. I'm not coming back. And highly advise others to consider going elsewhere to have your ingrown removed if you value being treated with respect like a human being. After the procedure I was burdened with a week's worth of nightmares regarding the experience along with emotional distress and lots of crying. I feel like Ive been completely violated and will continue to use my voice and speak out about the medical malpractice I experienced from this doctor.

5-Star Surgical Care & Compassion with Dr. Thompson and Team…read more I had foot and toe surgery with Dr. John M. Thompson, DPM, on July 16, 2025, at Piedmont Surgery Center on Howell Mill Road--and from pre-op to now-legally-walking again in shoes, I'm absolutely delighted with every part of my experience. Surgery & Recovery    *   The procedure: a first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint fusion with a bone graft, involving both metatarsal and tarsal bones, fixed with five screws and two plates.    *   It's been seven weeks since surgery--yesterday marked exactly seven weeks, and I saw Dr. Thompson on August 28. He cleared me to start using well-supported running shoes and begin physical therapy. I've now had three PT sessions, and it's going great--I've already started putting weight on my foot and continue using the scooter as needed. I'm healing faster than expected and couldn't feel more confident in my progress. My next follow-up is scheduled for September 25. Dr. Thompson's Expertise & Compassion    *   Dr. Thompson's education and training are outstanding:       *   Undergraduate: B.S. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from The College of Wooster       *   Medical Education: Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine (2018)       *   Residency in Podiatric Foot & Ankle Surgery at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center (Chief Resident, 2021)       *   Fellowship in Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Reconstruction, Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Center (2022)       *   Board-certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery    *   His office location: Ankle & Foot Centers of America - Sandy Springs, 5600 Roswell Road, Suite F240, Atlanta, GA 30342 Phone: 404-255-9131    *   Patient satisfaction: consistently rated 4.9 out of 5 from 240 reviews--patients rave about his thoroughness, empathy, and professionalism. The Amazing Team    *   Nurse Naomi: compassionate, knowledgeable, and always there to reassure and support me.    *   Jessica, the front-desk medical assistant and coordinator: friendly, efficient, and a delightful first face of the practice on every visit. Thoughtful Extras That Made a Difference    *   I purchased an ice-cold therapy machine from his office--absolutely a life-saver for swelling and pain, worth every penny.    *   Renting a scooter for recovery at just $50/month was incredibly convenient--I didn't need to buy my own, and it made mobility so much easier.    *   These thoughtful touches, combined with Dr. Thompson's attentive care, made recovery smoother than I dared hope. Final Thoughts Words can't express how thankful I am. Dr. Thompson is not just a highly skilled surgeon--he's kind, gentle, fully attentive, and walks you through every step with clarity and kindness. His team is equally exceptional. If you ever need foot or ankle surgery, trust me--it's worth traveling to Sandy Springs, Georgia for this level of care. I 100% recommend Dr. John M. Thompson, Nurse Naomi, and Jessica to anyone seeking top-tier foot and ankle care.
