I've been coming to this salon for a few years now and only get my hair cut by Ethan Ball when I'm in Rochester. Earlier this year I got a haircut in Calveston TX where my other home is located. All I can say is I need to figure out how to get Ethan to Texas because I'm never satisfied by anyone else. Why? I accepted this guy for the second time, i knew it was a mistake. My haircut is completely uneven. I even went back for him to fix it and he couldn't. I sensed a slight attitude. I don't understand how as a hairstylist you could let someone walk out of the shop like that. Im not going back and i recommend no one go there unless they know a stylist. There comes a point in time, where we all must realize some truths about themselves. What those are vary from person to person but knowing them is essential to our growth as people. One one of the things it took me years to learn? I suck at cutting my own beard. Are my man paws lacking in dexterity? Does looking in a mirror confuse me? Is it a depth perception thing? I dont know. What I do know is that as far as my beard goes, if i don't want to look like I just climbed down from my cave that I share with a honey badger. Than I must pay for the services of a barber. I can't say how many times I stood in front of the mirror, come type of overly complicated beard clipping system in place. Clippers in hand, beard overgrown. And a few scant minutes later id be left with no choice but to shave it down to a goatee . Nothing wrong with a goatee , i just like my beard. So for years I went to The Mens Club at Pittsford Plaza. Solid place, but pricey, Up to $45 sometimes and it changed almost every time I went. No explanation on why. I have tried a few other places with varying results, Dandedeville included. Dandedeville was fun, lucked out with parking and got a spot just about in front. There is also a ton of barbers and they each seam to run their own show. So I made an appt with Casey who did a solid job. She was fun and kept the convo flowing. It was $30 for hair and beard to saved a bit of Cash. This place feels very much like a tattoo parlor that gives hair cuts instead of tattoos. Overall feel for the place was the clientele was on the younger side. Each stylist seems to do their own thing because I paid Casey via an app on her phone after my session. While Casey was fun I didn't feel she was as... focused as some other stylist I've had. She didn't go my eye brows and she was a bit flighty. Not in a bad way per say but other stylist I have been to focus more on what they are doing and I think it has an over all effect. I enjoyed my hair cut and with the number of barbers it seemed easy to get in so there is another plus. Good music and fun atmosphere round this place out as a spot I would recommend if you need some grooming. read more

I have never had a worse haircut in my life I used to go here all the time but the staff has changed. My stylist Nicole did not listen to anything I said and gave me a Karen bob when I asked for shoulder length trim! I even showed a picture for reference and she cut it well above what I asked for. Made an appointment last minute, felt really lucky that they had any availability. Set me up with Anna, who was really so chill and easy to talk to. I really appreciate that in a barber/hairdresser because half the job is communicating what the customer is looking for and getting advice with that. Left today really happy, with a sharp looking cut that I've already received compliments on. Atmosphere was also pretty laid back, everyone was friendly (even the other customers) lots of space. I was in a bit of a bind. I had an unexpected job interview creeping up on me within the next 24 hours. I was in a panic because I hadn't had my hair cut in months; I called my usual place and they were all booked up. Not to mention, it being a Monday, most shops were closed anyway. I quickly scanned Yelp and found Dandedeville. I read many positive reviews of the barber shop by satisfied clientele. One review in particular recommended Dennis as a barber. I called the shop and made an appointment with Dennis immediately. They managed to squeeze me in early the next morning for an appointment before my job interview. The shop had Sailor Jerry and American traditional tattoo flash on the walls with a rockabilly type vibe that was both nostalgic and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. There was more than adequate space between barbers with noticeable elbow room, more akin to a tattoo parlor than a close-quarters barbershop. The barbers had more room to work and the clients could enjoy their privacy. One wasn't forced to listen to any chatty barbers or fellow clients if they preferred a more relaxing environment. If the client did enjoy conversing in some barbershop talk, indulging in one of the oldest and last true forums today (not found online) the staff was willing to oblige them with a friendly chat. If you're like me, preferring an old school type of place with straight razor shaves and many traditional and not so traditional men's haircuts done right; I'd strongly recommend this place which is next door to Aladdin's on Monroe. Dennis was great! I was in and out of the chair within a half hour. He was very meticulous not to get hair on my shirt, down my neck or inside my collar. He also managed to edge-up of the back of my hairline with hot shaving cream and a straight razor without any of it landing on my shirt or tie. I'm not big on product but he introduced something very easy to work with and natural looking with Layright's no shine pomade. It was the best hair cut I had in a long time and I didn't go broke in the process. I'm glad my usual place was booked up and I came to Dandeville. I have a new barber and a new shop as a result. Definitely check this place out and I'd recommend Dennis as a barber. read more

If you're traveling through Rochester or live nearby, this is an outstanding place to get a haircut and shave. While in Rochester, for the first time ever, I did a Google search for a barber shop and was lucky enough to find Dandedeville at the top of the search results. Dennis did a really nice job cutting my hair and giving me tips on everything from hair product to where to get a drink while in the city. I really like the atmosphere of the shop, hip hop playing over the speakers and the whole experience. Walk-ins are welcome but it's also really easy to schedule an appointment on its website. I was able to find an appointment time with just 2 or 3 hours notice. If I'm ever back in the area, I'm going to want to go back to Dandedeville Barber and Beauty Shop, for sure. read more

All five stars are for style and for Jen Marks who was my stylist. She is famous for her retro updo's and can recreate the looks from your choice of decade. I had her do a roaring 20's style for me when she was still at Pink Flamingo Salon and it came out amazing and made me feel like a real flapper. This time I had her do a cut and she was just as confident and skilled. She has a really good eye for aesthetics and personalized the style for my particular hair and face. I wanted to set up an appointment with Laura to color my wife's hair. I called to try and ask her how much it would be for the colors she wanted, and how long it would take. . I was told by the person who answered the phone that she was not in, and that he would give her my message and have her call me. I waited 2 days with no response so I called back. The same guy answered and told me that him and laura kept missing each other and he would for sure get ahold of her that day to give her my message . I waited another 2 days and I then sent a facebook message to the company with a picture of what i was looking to have done. Waited another day with still no response and so I sent an email with the same details. After another 3 or four days with no response I called again. I was told that laura was in the shop that day and was in the middle of cutting someone's hair. Thinking that this was it I was finally going to get ahold of her and get my questions answered. They told me they would have her call when she was done with the cut. You can imagine my suprise 3 days later when I still had no response. I sent an email and then said screw it. Best haircut I've had! Easy to set up appointment, Aaron Danger was my barber. The shop itself has a social atmosphere, relaxed and eclectic. As soon as I sat down I was offered a drink and then Aaron got to work. He was personable and professional, I gave basic guidelines for what I wanted and he figured out the rest. I went here in a rush to get my hair and beard trimmed. I was referred over by a very nice lady who worked at a salon on South Ave. and said one of her friends either owned the salon or worked there. I walked in and sat down and was immediately greeted by a man with a full head of great red hair, a much different style then mine but as a ginger myself it was nice (his name is Trevor Lake according to the website). He looked at me and said "are you a walk in", I responded with a "yes", he said "ok", I said "Nice hair" he was like thanks, and proceeded to try and find me someone to cut my hair, all was going well. He it was about 3:40 at this point, and he asked the first girl who told him she had a 4 o'clock appointment. Then she asked the second girl (her name is Kari Pullen) who also had a 4 o'clock appointment, and Trevor told Kari you can do this in time. So Kari finished her appointment, and came over and greeted me, I was skeptical this could all get done in 15 minutes, but trusted it would be done right even if her appointment waited a little longer. She started to cut my hair, and was really a nice person, great conversation, complimented my hair, and was even explaining her technique to trimming my split ends. The thing was time went by fast, she didn't even come close to finishing my hair, then she looks at me and says "my 4 o'clock appointment is here, if u like I might be done at 4:30 and you can come back to get your beard done", now mind you I looked down on the floor and she barley trimmed any of my hair, there was really not much of my hair on the ground. I became very indecisive, and I am not a controversial person so I became hesitant stuttered a bit on some words but said "maybe". We went to the counter and she said "I didn't do a full cut on your hair so it's only $15", now mind you had she even come close to cutting my hair worth $15 I wouldn't be angry but that was some sort of joke. I thought maybe I was being pranked, lol. I gave her a $20 and didn't even wait for my change because I didn't want to become irate, and being in the service industry I can't help but to tip even if I am not totally pleased with my service, call it the good in me I guess. In hind sight looking at their website, I think the owner was there, she looked like she was doing a fantastic job on the woman's hair she was working on, and maybe I should have said something, but I didn't. Also while I waited to get cut and part the time I was getting my cut, Trevor was getting a quick little trim up from one of the other stylists, the one next to his chair. Now mind you this is not a problem for me, I am all about utilizing all the time in a day, but then when I am told to leave and come back mid-point that doesn't make me too happy. Also why didn't Trevor take me? He seemed just as free as the other two, and was there till 4 without anyone? All very strange, but the people were nice, just being told to leave early and "come back later maybe I'll be done..." really didn't sit well with me, I will never go back to this place when I am in Rochester. read more
