What I ended up with was highlights that looked very unnatural, and when I parted my hair to the side, as I normally do, that she didn't actually ask me how I normally wore my hairstyle, the highlights didn't even go all the way to the roots. I am a new resident to Vernon and chose this place because of reviews. For $250 bucks I will not be going back. Cut my hair too short as well... although that one may have been some of my fault, but she had no suggestions for me on how to do my hair aside from telling me that I was using the wrong terms (I asked for full head of highlights so that when it grows out it looks ombre, to which I was told I do not know what that means) All in all the staff and my hair dresser was pleasant, no complaints on attitude or environment. For a 2 hour appointment it went smooth. Final result was not worth the price I paid and I will not be back

My experiences with haircuts in Toronto are nearly always the same thing: never truly pleased with the cut I get and the folks doing the cutting don't seem particularly interested. I get it - sometimes it can be boring to try to engage with strangers all day and it is likely easy to fall into a routine of asking the same questions and keeping things pretty superficial. This time things were different: Aside from a tiny bit of small talk about my day and eventually why I was in Revelstoke, Sara and I got into a deep and meaningful about my hair: "what do you like about your hair", "what do you dislike about your hair", "what would you change about your hair"... etc. She was focusing in on how I perceived my hair in an effort to understand how she could fit into the process of giving me a haircut I'd be happy with - and it worked. I was able to better articulate what I wanted my hair to do and be, and she was able to make it happen. While cutting and combing, she was educating me on the ethos and principles that have informed her decisions in opening her shop, the services she offers, and the products she supplies and uses. To find a salon that considers environmental impacts along with making profits was not something I was expecting to discover... being like minded and myself working for a company that considers the environmental impacts of being in business - the experience really resonated with me. A great haircut and a great conversation make for a really great experience. It's a real shame that I can't just book here in the future now that I'm back in Toronto - but I feel lucky that now I know how to better articulate what I'd like to my next barber. Go here. Often.
