I took my first class very early one morning, so it was just me and one other person. This made the…read moreclass feel very personal, and the instructor was able to train us on a better level. It was a 30 minute class that consisted of using the climber machine half the time and then doing light weight lifting the other half. I wasn't crazy about the machine because it was a bit too intense for me, but I enjoyed the other half of the class. The instructor was awesome and kept pushing us beyond what we thought we could handle. I don't think this is the type of studio I would buy a membership at, but I would buy some drop in classes.

I joined to swim, and the pool itself is excellent. The problem is what happens right before people get in: no one showers. I've seen people go straight from the basketball court, still schvitzing, into the jacuzzi (ew!). I've even seen lifeguards hop in without rinsing off. When even the referees aren't following the rules, as stated on the sign there, it's not a great sign. All this isn't exactly appetizing. I've lived abroad and traveled quite a bit, and there's a cultural aspect to this. In France, skipping the pre-swim shower is unthinkable. In Iceland, someone actually supervises your scrub-down before you're allowed into the hot pots. In Mexico City, where I swim in a private gym akin to the JCC, it's definitely enforced. In Japan--forget about it. I've raised this three times with Steve Miller, the director of health and wellness. His view is that they add enough chlorine to kill the germs and that people should know better, but there's no real way to enforce it--lifeguards need to watch the pool, not police showering. (Though they do other distracted things like testing the water.) His proposed solution has been new signage--but who knows when? And I'm skeptical a sign will succeed where social norms have failed. It comes down to education. Most people in the pool where caps, for instance. Why? That's what they were told. So, why not tell them to shower? It's simply a matter of priorities, which this doesn't seem to be. Maybe I'm the only one who cares--based on the evidence, that might be true. But for a place that does so many things right, this one issue, for me, is hard to ignore.

I also had my son's birthday party here last year and the staff was amazing with assisting me set up for his birthday, and entertaining them the whole time and it's hands down the best gym I've joined in the area. My son is also in multi sport with Joe Marve and he loves it. Joe is the best with kids he definitely can keep the group of kids entertained and listening which is hard as is in my opinion for 5 year olds. The facility is spacious, super clean, and well-maintained with equipment for cardio, weights, and everything in between. They have an amazing variety of group classes (yoga, cycling, kickboxing, barre!), a basketball court, and 1 on 1 personal training. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. They know members by name and always go out of their way to help. The Come Together Yoga studio is a huge bonus, and the overall vibe is motivating without being intimidating. The juice bar is perfect pre and post workout as well. Plenty of parking too, which is a big plus. If you're looking for a full service gym that feels like a community, Sportset is it. I've been a member since 2011, and it's disappointing to see how far this gym has declined. Half…read morethe cardio machines are often out of service, and there hasn't been any meaningful investment in new strength or cardio equipment for years. Despite members repeatedly asking for upgrades, the gym continues to raise membership fees while spending money on things that many of us don't consider a priority. Dennison, the owner, seems unwilling to invest in the equipment that members actually use every day. Steve, the manager, has also been consistently rude and dismissive whenever I've interacted with him. Instead of listening to legitimate concerns about broken equipment and the condition of the gym, he comes across as arrogant and uninterested in addressing member feedback. Good customer service starts with treating members with respect, and that hasn't been my experience. The hours are another major issue. The gym closes far too early, especially on weekends, making it difficult for many members to use the facility. Overall, this gym feels neglected. Longtime members have remained loyal for years, but it's frustrating to watch membership prices increase while the equipment continues to age and basic maintenance is overlooked. I hope management starts listening to its members and invests in the gym instead of expecting people to pay more for less.

The gym itself is extremely clean, and I'm genuinely excited that it's only about two minutes from my house. On top of the beautiful new space and equipment, they also offer 24/7 gym access, which is a huge plus. For anyone familiar with the area, it's literally across from where Tropical Fitness used to be. The gym offers a lot, including Pilates classes, personal training, and nutrition coaching. I was especially impressed by their Pilates studio and the quality of the brand-new equipment. While I haven't met the Pilates instructors yet, I've spent time with both owners, and they truly know what they're talking about when it comes to fitness and nutrition. With so much misinformation out there, I really appreciated how much time they took to explain things thoroughly and thoughtfully (details are personal). There is a parking lot available--just be mindful of the signage and make sure you're parked in the correct spot. I haven't explored the back of the lot yet, but there's also plenty of street parking nearby. If you're looking for a clean, modern gym with knowledgeable owners who genuinely care about your progress, Forge Fitness is absolutely worth checking out. I reached out again to the surrounding crossfits to see what pricing is like now--as things are constantly changing with the pandemic --to see if it is something we now can afford. As young new parents we have to be extra careful with our spending and weigh all our choices. I am not sure what type of business they run where they think it is acceptable to mess with people by saying the price is $300 dollars more than it is. It seems to me they either are extremely unprofessional or were trying to extort money out of a new customer. I did CrossFit for many years when l was training and still an elite athlete before an injury took the option of CrossFit away from me. I was very excited when I learned of your gym in the area because I have always wanted my husband to get into it. I understand it is important for him to come in, see the facilities, and learn more about CrossFit other than what I have told him. I also have no doubt as a former division one athlete and cross-trainer that he would safely pick up CrossFit and enjoy it just as much as I did. But if the cost was too much for us, there would be no point in him coming to see the facilities in the first place. It was disheartening receiving their inappropriate messages that have turned us off of your gym. Do not use this gym--as they will try to extort up to $600 extra a month from you!
