Our sound-bath meditation was on point from the individual who speaks through the process and the breathing techniques during. I don't even know if I fell asleep or not lol. i was that relaxed. I was that comfortable and appreciated the me time and peaceful sounds. At one point you do hear the crashing sounds of a gong or horn (sorry first time and don't know the terminology) that were a little too loud that is what startled me and I was not able to go back into the concentration. Only downfall was they forgot to give me my blanket to cover up with so I was freezing the entire time. It's not a place you can raise your hand or yell out. I appreciate they do provide lockers, that you can personalize during your visit, with included phone chargers, clean bathrooms and a selection of warm teas.

I arrived at 1pm and there were several other folks there for the event. After signing in at the desk, the staff walked me over to the locker and showed me where to keep my things. After everyone arrived, one of the ladies gave us an intro to meditation and then we watched a 7 min video about the science behind mindfulness and meditation. The video needs to be updated as there was a lack of diversity (e.g, age, race, etc.) and that turned me off slightly. After the video, we were walked into the room, asked to grab a blanket and got into the hammock for the 45 minute sound bath and meditation. I serve on a board for an organization that's focused on mindfulness but this was my first time participating in a full on practice. It was very calming and allowed me to really get centered. The time went by fast and our instructor set the right pace. They offer a free session for first timers so I will be taking advantage of that. The studio is very clean, and they offered tea and other refreshments. But most importantly, there's plenty of parking.

The open house started at 7:30 PM. I would have liked and thought there was going to be well lit as well as them welcoming newcomers, however, not. The building was sketchy too. The parking was plenty, but I immediately felt uneasy and as I was about to leave until another visitor/an elderly lady spotted me in the parking lot and asked me where the open house was going to be. I pretended I knew to help her. Eventually, we were both lost when I couldn't get the door opened as it was locked at 7:20 PM. A guy walked up out of nowhere and said he had a key, then he unlocked the door. Another guy with long hair came from upstairs and said that the open house was "up here". The elderly lady got into the elevator while I climbed the stairway up. I was thinking that the open house would be in a large room. Absolutely not, about 10 people met inside a small room. Come to find out, the tiny room is where the Buddhist center is not the whole office building. There wasn't any shoes allowed in the room for comfort. Okay, I'm inside the room and sat in a chair as I didn't feel comfortable with sitting on the floor. The rest of the visitors sat on the floor. The guy with long hair came then immediately started explaining Tibetan Buddhism and how ties to Karma Kagyu, but founded by Lamar Ole Nydahl. He was speaking fast and I tried to keep up. He then started chanting. He had given us beads to hold. Again, we all chanted with him. He was reading a mantra very fast in a language I didn't recognize. It wasn't English as they said it would be. I don't know why he was going so quick. After he did that, the open house was over with. We had to give the beads back. The long haired man answered questions. Then we left. The open house was free. I honestly didn't care about my experience as it wasn't pleasant. I didn't return as the energy was off. I'll just stick to mediating at home.

Authentic, non-corporate, yoga…read more Class sizes are small, so one always receives personal attention to their form. This is a major plus since many studios pack in students like sardines, and form is sacrificed. I have heard through the years of people injuring themselves through yoga, which should not happen, provided you have a seasoned instructor with a strong knowledge base; enter Marita. It is hard to imagine one person trying to adjust and correct 35 bodies! This is not the case at Kingwood Yoga though, because none of the class sizes ever reach past 10! Each individual receives feedback about their pose, which is very encouraging. If one cannot do an inversion, then Marita will modify one so that everyone is doing an inversion, as an example. Marita has been a practitioner of yoga for some time and it is apparent based on her knowledge and safe practice. Another plus of Kingwood Yoga is that the fees are upfront and posted on the website. Full financial discolure is important to me, and I will assume to you as well; there are no contracts. Every gym, self-defense, MMA gym, you name it ALWAYS has a contract and they get you inside for your 'complementary session' only to hound you as you try to escape after hearing the terms. In a world of shoddy business ethics, I have the utmost respect for Marita and how she handles her business practices. She honest and fair. I cannot rate, or speak of, the other services Kingwood Yoga offers, such as prenatal yoga, children's yoga, or massage services available there. I have only attended the regular yoga classes. But my guess is that they are just a brilliant as the 'regular' class, only modified for their respective populations. However, I do feel like I can speak briefly about Marita's teacher training course, as she has some of her students lead the classes, but they are under her supervision, so yes she is physically present, and watching. After a couple of the students graduated, they filled in while for a week and they were amazing, holding to the Iyengar Yoga tradition, yet bringing their own spirit and creativity into the class. I cannot speak highly enough about Kingwood Yoga. Marita is absolutely amazing, and that same spirit comes through in her student teachers too.
