The end of year dance recital is rip-off. 100 for a costume, 80 for a participation fee, 25-30 per ticket, and they tell parents about this 2 weeks before the recital. I recognize that the Magic Duel takes huge pride in 5 star reviews on Yelp, which I deeply respect. But I did wish that we had seen the show in a different venue. I am no stage expert, but lights and sound do matter a lot in delivery of a magic show for a skeptic like me, going because the significant other loves magic shows. With better lighting, things would have been more "magical" (thinking bottles.) I was also surprised that a bubble artist, as good as she was in her profession, was considered a magician. After some quick research, you will end up at Magic Duel in this genre, so please go to Dupont or Georgetown.

Very affordable as well...our tickets were $8.00 each. I loved the theater itself. It sort of had an old fashioned feel but had been updated where needed. There didn't seem to be a bad seat in the whole place and we were able to sit in the second row which was really fun. The seats were comfortable and positioned so they weren't one right behind another but staggered so that you could see through the heads of the people in front of you. The building was very easily accessible and had plenty of parking. I will definitely keep an eye on upcoming shows of interest to us and look forward to coming back again soon.

The evening was themed "Arabian Nights" and was put on by a group called Belly Dance for Life. My friend is part of this - she has been engaged in this activity for about 6 months. http://www.bellydanceforlife.com/ It was very entertaining - you could tell the women who have been doing this for many years - they have a sort of a lean, muscular torso which is a signature look for these women. These women had amazing control of their bodies - from being able to vibrate their entire body without looking like they were doing anything - to twitching specific body parts effortlessly. There was an element of sensuality and eroticism to the dancing. It was very enjoyable! I think I need to marry a veteran Belly Dancer! I was asked to take a lot of photos to forward onto the woman who is their dance instructor. I must say it's damn hard to get a good photo of Belly Dancers - just when you think you are going to get a good shot - they whirl and move and so you try again. I think I took about 10 photos for each decent one I managed to snap.

After being inspired by a cultural showcase I attended, I had to get back into hip-hop dance class…read more It has been like a decade, but I dove right into researching all the local dance studios... we have quite a few. There were some places that weren't weekly, some that were just for kids... and then this studio... they have something for everyone. It's located right off of Forbes Blvd, and when classes are in session, that little parking lot gets really busy! When you first enter, you just kind of see folks sitting all over the place, and it's kind of hard to tell who works there and who doesn't -- but everyone is friendly! When I first came and said what I was there for, they said to settle on in and that the previous class was still going on. Once it was over, we were gestured in. The first several classes I've done all started about 10 minutes late. The corridor to get to each studio is a bit tight -- I'm fine with it, but I could see certain people get claustrophobic. The teacher and content of the class are great -- one key difference with this one compared to others I've taken is that they're always working towards a recital. So some weeks the routines are repeated and built upon, versus it being changed up every week like I'm used to. The dance academy updates primarily come through a Facebook group -- I signed up for texts, but I don't get those quite as consistently. The fees are pretty reasonable to me, and as I said there's something for everyone. The website pics and even the group (titled Parents) almost make it feel like the academy is just for kids, which can be a bit misleading. If you're in the area, I recommend checking them out!
