Literally traumatizing--a ton of unnecessary pain, gaslighting, condescension, and I got a cold there and was out of work nearly a week. And now I have to get a second opinion because I've heard so many stories about how inaccurate her assessments are. The badly trained hygienist shoved the whole metal x ray holder in my mouth (the metal ring should be outside) for maybe a dozen x rays. I started screaming in pain and was even in tears. When the doctor came out she expressed no concern for my pain, just blaming my experience on my large tongue. It had never once been brought up before and it was a really crappy way to get around validating my pain. Later that day as I started having symptoms of a respiratory infection, I lost it. In addition to that agony and degradation, now I had to put everything on hold for nearly a week because of whatever nastiness was on that metal thing shoved to the back of my throat again and again, all while the "medical professional" blamed me for my large tongue. And I missed out on paid work I really needed. Dr Monahan hasn't responded to my other review or two emails. I will not contact her directly again but if she wants to apologize she can reach out to me. I am definitely going to report her and her practice and encourage others to do the same. No one should have to endure this. read more

They attempted to withhold my Medical records for ransom which is illegal under HIPAA. They tried to say they could not release my medical records until I paid a $50 same day cancellation fee. THIS IS HIGHLY HIGHLY ILLEGAL. They did this while a girl, whose name is Emma, sat on the phone being condescending. Oblivious to the law or the gravity of the situation. They only released them after I filed a complaint. Do not allow medical professionals to withhold your medical information under any circumstances! This is why we have laws against this. Coming from the medical field (Not dentistry), and this is my opinion: I was a patient in Dr. Monahan's clinic for nearly 3 years. I really liked the service (fast check-in appointments, hygiene service [Lorin is great!]). I used to go there 4 times a year! One thing that honestly made me sad and anrgry simultaneously was the unnecessarily aggressive therapy approach. In the last 2 years, I was approached by another dentist there (Not naming her) in each visit, convincing me that I have two cavities. Since cavities take years to develop, that didn't make sense to me, and my last dentist, before I moved to Pittsburgh, said I didn't have any. In the following visits, the same dentist now talks about 4 cavities that need to be done because they are getting worse. I went for a second opinion and I showed my Xray and images to other dentists (I got 3 other dentists evaluating me!) who recommends against that. Each time, I got "reminded" about the cavities in a "pushy" way, although I explained that I went for a second opinion who was (actually were) against that. Eventually, after long discussions, I agreed to have the 4 cavities done, which was 2 months ago. In that day, after numbing my mouth, the dentist saw 2 MORE CAVITIES, so now I have 6 cavities, and since I'm numb it's a good time to do them all. I was barely able to talk or to understand how did that happen. I really felt that I'm being placed under pressure to accept this. After showing my case to a dentist friend, his opinion is the procedure was not necessary. My bill came with ~300$, and I'm not sure if my teeth needed that. I officially complained to Dr. Monahan about this, she said she'll look into this and will call me back. (still waiting for the call). Bottom line: The office is professional, great hygiene service, I recommend this for regular clean-ups. However, careful about their medical decisions, they are unnecessarily aggressive (other reviewers have similar concerns) and sometimes poor. read more

I had an appointment with Dr Monahan for the first time at Bloomfield Dental. Speaking as someone who has never stuck with one dentist, my experience with Dr. Monahan excellent. I have a lot of faith in this dentistry practice. I just returned from my semiannual appt & found it to be thorough and professional. They are friendly & nice from reception to procedure area. I now conduct my billing as this: I wait until they get reimbursed by my insurance and then they send me my bill. I had issues paying on the same day as the visit twice and it was taken care of. This seemed to be an issue with what mine would pay. One of the hygienist looked at the estimate and said: "this isn't right. You have insurance." Thus, I wait until they get reimbursed. I have been seeing Dr. Mele for two years, and she is genuinely the best dentist I've ever had. I have been going here for at least 3 years and I would definitely recommend this office. The staff are very courteous and kind. I have met both dentists and they are both nice and listen to your questions. Every time I have had my teeth cleaned here, it has been a pleasant experience. I recently had my teeth whitened and Erin gave me easy to follow instructions on aftercare and warned me about tooth sensitivity afterwards. I am very happy to have found such a great office. If you are looking for a new dentist, this is your office! Everyone there from the front desk to the clinical staff and most importantly the dentist were extremely nice and the care was above average. I've seen both Dentist for treatment and they are both gentle and compassionate. I always hated the dentist and thought it was so painful. But not here! I was having a toothache and the staff got me in right away . Needed a root canal ( which I was scared to death to hear)! I had it done in less then an hour, out of pain and back to work the same day. After not seeing a dentist for years I'm thankful for the treatment and care they have given me. I enjoyed the office and they have early appointmentsbut after a routine cleaning, the hygienist put fluoride on my healthy teeth without getting permission then they charged me at check out stating that my insurance didn't cover it. My teeth are completely fine and this was an unnecessary addition just to get out of pocket cash. Very unethical move. read more

I have finally found a dentist office I don't dread going to! Dr. Monahan had quite the case when she took me on as a patient, as I hadn't been to the dentist in years. From the moment I walked in to the time I left that first time, it was a great experience. Dr. Monahan took the time to find out about me and made a plan for my care. She was very honest about the work I needed done and explained her plans very thoroughly. I never felt like I was being rushed out of the office, as she took the time to answer my questions in ways I could understand. I was a new patient there recently. I had xrays, cleaning, and a filling done. The work done was no problem other than the chaotic atmosphere in the entire office. I was seen by two different doctors and shuffle around three time. There seemed to be a lot of confusion but I just figured it was a busy place. When leaving I was scheduled to return for a follow up on the cleaning and to have two more fillings done. The next appointment was 4 weeks later due to the gum work done during the cleaning. I was given a appointment card and a phone call two days prior to the 12pm appointment. When walking out my door to go to the dentist I get a phone call from the office saying that my appointment was at 11pm and the doctor is now leaving so I can't get my fillings done. The mistake was they forgot to schedule the filling for 11am and only scheduled the cleaning follow-up for 12pm. So I was told on the phone that I can come in but only for the follow-up and I'd have to re-schedule for the filling. I was told the doctor leaves at 12pm. It was not noon yet but she was not willing to stay and make their mistake right. When choosing a doctor/dentist it's a bad sign when they can't even get the next appointment right. read more
