They then suggested I see this woman who calls herself a doctor. I went to see her and I clearly had laryngitis because I kept coughing and my voice left a lot to be desired. She first mentioned 'oh, so you have laryngitis, but that is not why you are here today...' and completely ignored the fact, not checking my throat and lungs, not asking how long I had had it, etc. In the half hour I was with her she barely made eye-contact, keeping her gaze on the screen... as I later found out, seeking info she lacked. We discussed my thyroid issues and the birth control options before me. We talked about the option of a diaphragm, she is, after all 'a birth control expert' and I asked how it works. She said you stick it in before sex and immediately after sex you pull it out. I asked 'really? immediately after?', she repeated herself and said yes, immediately after. I mentioned that I had read somewhere that in order for it to work it has to remain inside for at least a few hours. She then said she would look it up, she turned to her computer and printed out a page, where it said the diaphragm had to be kept inside at least six hours. She was too wrong to mention. I mentioned I could start using that method after the hormonal period of the current method is over. She said I didn't have to wait for that period to be over, who cares I have hormonal issues, let's mess with them a bit more and interrupt an estrogen dose just because! I asked her if the hormonal birth control had anything to do with my thyroid, and she said it didn't, because, as the all knowledgeable doctor said, there is no scientific fact that hormones are related! I asked her if the fact that I quit smoking at the same time I started with the hormonal birth control had anything to do with the fluctuation in my body... she said it did not... of course, why would it? I mean, nicotine doesn't affect metabolism, does it? I mean, that wouldn't be the reason millions of people use it to lose weight, right? I asked her how effective a diaphragm really is as birth control, she answered, 'well, you can use it if you don't really mind getting pregnant...' really? is that a real answer? She was quite unhelpful and undoctorly. I was beyond appalled when this private practice supposedly has such a high name. I have since then been to another doctor within the same practice who was much more helpful and friendly and actually cared and knew what she was talking about. "DR" Lansen should have her license taken away.

Dr. Lila Wolfe is the sweetest and most amazing chiropractor ever. I never had any serious back…read moreproblems, but I was feeling stiff and misaligned which was annoying in my yoga practise - plus sometimes my back muscles would just get really tight and sore (which I thought was just part of me working out so much, but turns out it was due to misalignment). I knew that my pelvis was tilted forward a bit as various yoga teachers had told me that was the cause of my stiffness. So I felt overly prepared when I walked in into my first exam. Dr. Lila Wolfe listened to me bragging about all my little pains and issues, and then examined me very thoroughly. She immediately found out that the stiffness I was experiencing wasn't due to my muscles not being stretchy enough as I had always thought - it was because my lumbar spine was completely locked, thus not allowing much movement and resulting in my chest & shoulders always making these crackling and popping noises when I stretched (again I thought that was just normal..). Also she found out that my pelvis was not only tilted forward, but also twisted to one side which suddenly explained why I always hold my head to one side (and I thought that was just a little spleen I had).. After hanging out on the super relaxing back-stretch-table-machine that warms up the spine for the adjustments (seriously, this table is SO WONDERFUL!), she adjusted my middle back - CRACK it made and suddenly I felt a rise of energy going through my body. As an avid yoga practitioner I know how much body and emotions go hand in hand, but additionally I learned that because all major nerves run through the spine, basically all inner organs are also connected to a poor posture. After that middle-back crack, she also adjusted my hip and my shoulders/neck and helped to promote the natural curve in my neck - sitting in front of a computer all day and looking down on my phone, my head was hanging down a little and I got headaches on a regular base. Well, that got significantly better through the adjustments! Dr. Lila Wolfe took her time to explain everything in detail and answer all my questions (and believe me, I had a lot of questions!). The best thing though happened in the next few days - my spine suddenly felt all bouncy and wonderful, the stiffness of my spine was gone and I finally could do all the fancy yoga poses I always thought just weren't for me - the unlocking of my middle back sections truly did wonders! Other side effects - I don't feel stiff anymore when I get out of bed in the morning (well, I thought that was just the effect of getting older), I look skinnier (because my hips were tilted forward, my stomach was always pushed out as well - standing up straight suddenly makes me look like a mega babe!), and am so crazily flexible all of a sudden that my yoga teacher is jealous ;) Even though everything feels great even after the first visit, unfortunately the unhealthy habits and muscle memory need a bit more work than that. Of course I continued to sit in front of computers all day, so that I needed more adjustments. If you are looking for a one-time-fix, this might not be for you. I had a previous bad experience at a different clinic, and I was super nervous to see another doctor in the city. Dr. Kostant was super kind and informative. The office is really clean and comfortable; there is a nice selection of beverages you can enjoy. I would mention if the strings to your IUD are missing prior to your appointment, because there is some medication that you can take beforehand that can help with that process. I was still able to take the medicine during my appointment, and Dr. Kostant made the time for me to complete my procedure the same day. I was able to use laughing gas and local anesthesia for my procedure, which was definitely an interesting experience. I have a follow-up appointment scheduled in two weeks, and I am sure I will be all set for the next 10 years!
