I had a fantastic experience with Dr. Maura! My backstory is that I have Hashimoto's…read morehypothyroidism. For 3-4 years I felt an overall sluggishness, with symptoms including brain fog, social anxiety that I never had before, and lack of motivation (all of which felt very out of the norm for me) even though my blood work was showing "great" numbers for thyroid function. After several years of getting my thyroid dosage and blood test results to a great place, I still felt pretty meh and was experiencing this intense bloating (not kidding it looked like I was pregnant by end of each day) that nothing could get rid of. So I knew that it had to be something else, not just thyroid medication/dosage-related. I suspected, based on reading about its symptoms, that SIBO could be involved. Sure enough Dr. Maura tested me for it and we discovered methane-dominant SIBO, and we started what would be a 4-month supplement and dietary protocol. It is not an easy diet (you'll probably need to remove gluten and dairy at minimum), and you will probably feel socially isolated at some points, but consider that it's such a short time frame to turn your life and health around! Now about a month off of the diet and supplements and having transitioned every food I love back in (not avoiding gluten/dairy or anything anymore), I feel like I process everything very well - even whole milk dairy, which gave me awful symptoms before! Anyway, definitely see Dr. Maura if this sounded anything like what you're going through - she was an immensely helpful guide through it all and a great listener! You can keep connected with her on an online portal as well, making her accessible and there for you even between appointments. It will not be through insurance so it's not cheap, but I always think your health is the best investment :) Thank you Dr. Maura for a wonderful experience! I've already recommended you to several of my friends and intend to do so to anyone else who is suffering through these frustrating symptoms.

I was dealing with stomach and other auto immune issues and she honestly didn't help me at all - I actually felt worst after seeing her. Thankfully I found another health professional (who was much more kind and compassionate) who helped me tremendously. Stay away from Dr. Maura!!!

I would really like to know what this business charges so I can compare them to my other options,…read morebut they will not quote me even a range of fees for their services over the phone. The person I spoke to kept impressing upon me that the in-person consultation is free, as if the only barrier for me was the cost of the consultation. If you have chronic pain that makes traveling difficult, you don't want to travel unnecessarily - even if it's free! I have no idea where this falls it could be $100/session or $900 -- this is NYC -- and I don't think it's absurd to want to know before I go. I'm so disappointed because this was the most conveniently located place for me with the least travel, but not none. And this makes me think that what they offer in compassion (as per reviews) they lack in flexibility.

TLDR: definitely recommend Brooklyn Acupucnture!…read more Long version: I love Brooklyn Acupuncture medicine. I had no acupuncture experience at all until November 2023 when I began experiencing physical anxiety symptoms that I never had before (it felt like my heart was being tickled, I felt faint, and almost nauseous for days at a time, it was hard to describe to others aside from just being able to feel my heart in a way I hadn't before and it was uncomfortable). I had a complete cardio workup and everything looked good so I decided to give acupuncture a try. Rez made me feel comfortable during our consultation before selling me on a treatment of 10 sessions. It really doesn't make sense to begin this treatment (though a one-off might be relaxing) unless you can commit to a full treatment. I worked with her from November to June, eventually tapering off to every two weeks. I have been doing other things as well (new therapist, group therapy) but I believe the wellness I feel now is definitely in part due to sitting with Rez and all of the lovely folks who work there. Definitely a culturally competent group in terms of sexual orientation, race, and gender identity. They remember me and you can tell they treat everyone there well and with respect; it's a nice community . Superbills and documentation provided quickly and I liked having reminder texts about my appointments. I haven't had an anxiety episode like that in months and I just feel like I can handle things better and am way less overwhelmed. For overprocessors like me (see the length of this message for proof) you should try working with these folks to take a different route to healing and learning. I love Brooklyn Acupuncture and see myself going back at various times for tuneups- not to mention when I start to experience physical symptoms likes back aches and pains. Feeling gratitude for Rez and the team at BAM!

I cannot imagine a doctor's office--even a functional medicine one-- providing more helpful, detailed support. Unfortunately, despite fees that I know are fair for a NYC physician of Dr. Cooke's caliber, I'm unsure if I could afford to see Dr. Cooke. However, Carolina's excellent help tells me that Dr. Cooke's care must be outstanding.

She draws from extensive training from different schools of thought, compromising her vast medical toolbox. The more I read, the more physicians I work with, and the more I learn only reinforces my respect and admiration for Dr. Cooke. At first I wondered why many patients came from so far away to see her. Patients who had thoroughly researched and visited European clinics ultimately came and settled into the warmth as Dr. Cooke's patients. It is crystal clear to me now. She is one of a kind.
