    MoonRings - Mystical Bali

Moonrings was first referred by my wedding coordinator a few years ago and we've used them for…read moretrips after our honeymoon as well. Don't let the name fool you, they do more than just honeymoons. They are a full fledged travel agency. The staff does go to many of the places the recommend so it's not just blind recommendations. We used them because with all the efforts going into the wedding, we didn't want to have to worry about the details about a honeymoon as well. We wanted to go to Hawaii and worked with Miriam Geiser. We did a 7 or 8 day trip to Oahu and Maui. Miriam helped gather the details for flights and hotels. We gave her a budget and she would stick to it. Honestly, if you're looking for a low budget type of trip, I would not use them, not because they can't work with you but being catered towards honeymoons and the like, they work with more high end hotels and services and have more experience with those places. They work with mostly 3+ star hotels. More like 4-5 star hotels though. Moonrings and Miriam did an amazing job with our honeymoon. We got detailed information and everything was set. All we had to do was follow their guide they gave us and we had a stress free honeymoon. They have some amazing recommendations on food and activities. A lot of the time, the staff has personally been there so they can vouch for it. Because we had such a great experience, we used them again when we visited Chicago. Being based out of Chicago, Miriam was able to give us a "bucket list" type of trip and give us a lot of good recommendations on food. Chicago is an amazing place. We had a great 3 day trip. If you're thinking of heading outside the US, they also have that covered too! As an anniversary/big trip, my wife and I wanted to go to Europe. We contacted Miriam again and they were able to give us another detailed trip to Italy and Spain. Miriam took care of the Italy portion and we worked with her colleague, Kevin, on the Spain side. Moonrings will let you talk with their experts for each city. They could have easily just had Miriam handle the whole thing and gather data for us about Spain, but they go the extra step to make sure they give you the best information they can. Not only is the itinerary detailed and spelled out, they also have your back when things aren't looking good... While in Rome, there happened to be a workers' strike, which would cause us to have to change our plans of visiting the Colosseum. Without us saying anything, Miriam had found out from her sources about this strike and went looking to see if she could get the tickets refunded or any alternatives. In Spain, we were not able to reconfirm a reseravation to a restaurant and the restaurant called Kevin. He told them to hold the table and emailed us to see if we were still going to make it. Because I got sick, I wasn't able to make the reservation, let him know, and he took care of it. Thanks Moonrings.

We used MoonRings to plan our European honeymoon and everything was absolutely perfect. We worked…read morewith Miriam who is extremely thorough and knowledgeable. When planning our honeymoon we had no idea where to begin or even where we wanted to go. Miriam got to know us and what we look for in a perfect vacation. She planned us an action packed 14 day trip through Greece and Italy and took care of every plane, train and automobile along the way. You would think she was a local based on the amount of knowledge she had about each of our destinations. We will definitely be using Miriam and MoonRings again on our next vacation.

Scam alert. We…read moreattended the 90 minute presentation "how to save money on travel" to get 2 free plane tix. We had no intention of buying whatever they were selling - we know how to travel cheaply. We entered a nondescript office with no permanent sign, a trashy sales agent started off the presentation by asking everyone where their ultime DREAM destination, money no object, would be. The 1st couple said Aruba (whoa, dream big). We said Maldives and the woman, who said she was a travel agent, had no idea where that was. Then she went around the room and asked each couple how much they thought the dream trip would cost. Aruba people said $6k for 7 days. Are you kidding me? Our 14 day trip to South Africa will be around that! The the pitch begins. Global Travel is not a timeshare, it a full service travel agency that provides week long stays at 5-star resorts and condos for $119 in the US and $189 international. They have thousands around the world! Of course, when you ask for specifics they tell you that the inventory changes so much they can't guarantee anything. They said they have tons of properties in Florida, Hawaii, Cancun, etc. But even if you can't take advantage of the low weekly rate at a condo, the full-service travel agency can get you 50% off hotels around the world plus 30-40% off flights and car rentals and cruises! So after an hour about how awesome this is, they finally get down to cost. $14,900 gets you membership FOR LIFE (passed on to your kids, and grandkids). $189 is the on-time processing fee, and $389 is the yearly "activity fee". If you don't book a trip that year, you don't pay. Of course, if you only book one, that $389 could cancel out any savings. You get 2 peak weeks at the weekly $119/189 rate plus 2 off-peak weeks, booked 2-4 months in advance. You also get 2 last minute weeks at the weekly rate that cost an additional $200 to book. So we're sitting there, clearly not going to do this, but watching all the people who are eating this up. We fill out our survey with info on us I'm assuming this is so they can give us their pitch on how we can save tons, so I pick our next trips to places I highly doubt they have properties, like Russia and Laos. So then we get paired up with an agent and go to the sales room where there's a "tiki-hut" and blaring music (so you can't hear the deal the table next to you is getting). Then they announce that because this is the anniversary of this particular office (really, then why don't you even have a sign?) the price is going to roll back to what is was in 1989 - just $11,900. After another 10 minutes they annouce that the first two people to sign up can take an additional $1000 off (all the agents "wow" and clap like this is so unheard of). Our agent starts the pitch by telling us all about him and then asking all about us. We immediately say we're not intrested because, while the premise is sound, it doesn't fit our style of travel. We never stay in one place for a whole week (so if we wanted to use all 4 weeks to stay in 4 places internationally over a week or so, it would be $800. We only spent $700 for 10 days in Spain!) and we HATE large resorts/megahotels. Sales guy continues to pitch, we continue to say no. He shows us pictures of more resorts, we say "okay, nice, but we're not interested". He tries to show us how much money would could save on our upcoming South Africa trip by going with them - MY trip actually comes out cheaper! Finally he says he needs to bring his manager over for our official decline. Manager comes over and pitches some more, and then says they may have another plan that could work for us. It's only $4500 for the membership to get one peak week and one off-peak week. We say no, he says if we just put $100 down we can get started now. We say no, he and sales guy excuse themselves. Sales guy comes back with a folded piece of paper and and says manager told him not to open it. We open it and it says $2500 on it. Sales guy is all "wow, I've never seen that deal before!". Manager comes back and talks all about how low this price is and just $100 will get us started. We say no again, now put off by the desperation. Sales guy whips out our "free gift", the 2 free plane tickets that are LOADED with so many hoops it becomes clear we will never use them and practially pushes us out the door. Don't make the same mistake we did to try to get free tickets. There's always a catch and you'll have to deal with these smarmy sales guys. I feel bad for the gullible people who get suckered and and lose money, but come on people. How naive can you be?

"WOW" was the word that came out of our mouths frequently - so many things we saw were amazing. Their guides have been doing this and know people on the street or in the hotels in most places we went. They made us feel safe and develop a love for the country, culture, religion, people and food. I went with 7 friends, we had a guide, driver, and assistant the entire time. The vehicle was new, always spotless which allowed the scenery to pop as we did a lot of driving. Our driver was our hero and amazed us constantly. We always had water, or whatever we wanted to drink on the bus. The smallest detail, like where to find a toilet was never an issue, as our guide was so knowledgeable. There were things we added to our trip on the fly like a bicycle rickshaw in Old Delhi, which was a highlight. I will use Greaves travel in the future and hope you are able to do the same.

My wife, Laura Gable, a luxury travel advisor, has visited prime destinations all over the world…read more She had been to India twice before and had an opportunity to join a group with Greaves Travel, a tour operator and destination management company she had used in the past. It would be my first visit there and became one of the finest tours I've enjoyed anywhere, with a comprehensive itinerary, skilled guides, well-orchestrated arrangements, and variety of experiences during visits to five cities. Instant impression: a mystical country. Wonderful people of faith. Hindu, Muslim, Sikh. Interesting to learn more from our knowledgeable Greaves guides about the faiths, histories of the comings and goings of the princes and different invaders from Afghanistan, Iran and elsewhere. The itinerary enabled us to marvel at the many contrasts, from utter chaos in the streets with scooters, cyclos, trucks, cars forging ahead, horns honking, to the serenity of the temples, mosques and parks, and the best hotels in the world. Visited different temples. Famous tombs and mosques. Taj Mahal is magnificent. Impressive major cities. Mumbai, Udaipur, Jaipur, New Delhi. The latter is inspiring as a capital, with wide avenues, a mall near the governmental offices like Washington DC, traffic like NYC or Tokyo during rush hour. Booming tech center in a neighboring state near the airport; call center headquarters for companies from all over the world. Had meals in a family home, on an island with a prince, in a UNESCO recognized restored boutique hotel tucked on a side street away from the cacophony of Old Delhi thoroughfares and street merchants. From six to ten dishes to try at most meals, with varying degrees of spiciness. Found exceptional values in jewelry and custom-made clothes in Jaipur. And enjoyed a three-star Chinese restaurant in New Delhi. Rode a camel at one hotel. Invited to join an engagement party at another, with Laura and a few others being coaxed onto the stage with the prospective bride and groom. Indians wanted us to join their events and to pose with members of our group. This happened wherever we went. Now sorting through an incredible array of memorable photos of monuments, street scenes, rickshaw rides, dinners at lakeside in a five-star Oberoi hotel, the hand laundry phenomenon in Mumbai (Dhobi Ghat, with row upon row of concrete wash pens) and more. Two favorites: morning at the Taj Mahal during a sunrise visit to beat the crowds and watch the lighting change on the dome; and a lively street scene in New Delhi. Highly recommended using Greaves for anyone wanting to go beyond the ordinary and expand their cultural, social, artistic, gastronomic and spiritual horizons in this amazing country of 1.3 billion.
