In fact, I hadn't even planned to purchase a home in Bellingham, and was just visiting a friend in town, when I was introduced to Laurie. One thing led to another, and in a day, I was out looking at properties. Laurie is FROM Bellingham, and knows and understands the market there as well as any one person could. This knowledge base is of inestimable value. She showed me properties that fit the very narrow constraints of what I was willing to spend, what I was looking for in terms of an investment, the return I expected to get, etc. In other words, Laurie LISTENED to me. She didn't show me things she THOUGHT might work for me. She showed me properties that fit EXACTLY the parameters I was working in. This is a rare thing today in Real Estate. Agents are often so desperate to close that they'll show properties that have only the most remote connection to what the client has stated they are looking for. Also, Laurie was available to me at virtually all times, and always responded to my calls and e-mails in the most timely of fashions. I have been buying and selling houses for 20 years, and I wish I had met Laurie earlier. Having worked with people across the ability spectrum I can honestly say that I've never had an agent go so far above and beyond the job description as she did in helping me find the property that was exactly right for me. We just had an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience dealing with Jon, who represented…read morethe seller and we were buyers. Just 3 days after the listing went live, we arrived for a site visit and made an offer $35K over asking price, and in a very slow and challenging market for sellers, due to ultra high mortgage rates and virtually no turnover of inventory on the market. We presented out letter of pre-approval and met all of his very time-sensitive milestones to submit our bid. In return, he repeatedly ignored his own stated timeline and deadlines to reply, dragged this out for 4 days, and then told us the reason for his lack of follow-through and timely communication was that he was skiing! We did not make a lowball offer - it was a generous offer, backed up by a pre-approval letter form a very prominent and respected mortgage broker, and he treated us with absolutely zero respect or consideration. Finally, in frustration, we withdrew our bid, which may have hurt the seller as well. We advise in the strongest possible terms to avoid dealing with Jon Hansen or the Hansen Group, this was a nightmare experience, and so unnecessary. Of course we are disappointed we didn't win the property, but that's not the reason for the review. The review is because throughout the process, Jon showed absolutely no professional or personal respect or even basic consideration for the value of our time or good intentions. Whether you are a seller or a buyer, you have many other choices for a real estate agent in Whatcom County. Look elsewhere.
