Extremely Disappointing Experience -- $76 Worth of Food Went Straight Into the Garbage…read more
When I first saw Yumbro Filipino Cuisine advertised on Facebook, I was genuinely SO excited. I was so excited, in fact, that before I even tried the restaurant, I immediately told my sisters about it. I thought I had found a new Filipino spot that we could all enjoy.
Unfortunately, I wish I had waited before spreading the word.
I didn't waste any time checking the place out. When I arrived, I expected at least a warm greeting, especially from a newly opened restaurant trying to make a good first impression. That didn't happen.
I noticed the menu was very limited, but I actually tried to look at that positively. I thought, "Maybe they have a small menu because they're concentrating on doing a few dishes really well."
I ordered crispy pata, palabok, pork BBQ, garlic rice, and halo-halo, spending about $76. I went home still excited and even called my sister because I wanted to tell her all about the food while I taste-tested everything.
That excitement disappeared VERY quickly.
The pork BBQ was tough and difficult to eat, and I did not enjoy the sauce at all.
The crispy pata wasn't crispy, and the seasoning tasted strangely sweet to me. Crispy pata is one of those dishes where you expect that beautiful crispy skin--that was simply not what I received.
Then came the palabok, which was probably one of my biggest disappointments. It was dry, and the topping appeared and tasted like old pieces of pork chopped up and thrown on top. To me, it didn't taste like palabok at all.
At this point, I was already extremely disappointed, but I still had the halo-halo. It looked unusual, but I figured I had already paid for it, so I should at least try it.
That was the final straw.
The red beans tasted spoiled and sour to me. After tasting that, I was done. I became concerned about eating any more of the food, so everything ended up in the garbage.
I absolutely HATE wasting food, which made this experience even more upsetting. Spending $76 on a meal only to throw it away was incredibly frustrating. I honestly wish I could get my money back.
As a Filipino customer, I wanted so badly to support a Filipino restaurant. I went there excited and ready to tell my family about a great new place. Instead, I left completely disappointed.
I understand that new restaurants can have growing pains, but food quality--especially food that tastes spoiled or sour--is something I cannot overlook.
Unfortunately, based on the food I personally received that day, I cannot recommend Yumbro Filipino Cuisine.
