TL;DR/The Short Version: Ottawa's second T&T Supermarket…read more Smaller than the first, but still has lots of cool Asian products. The Long Version: This T&T Supermarket location is in Hazeldean Mall in Kanata. It's where the Laura's Your Independent Grocer used to be. It just opened at the end of October 2024. We went the beginning of November 2024 so it was still brand spanking new. I took my parents here to check it out and see how it compares with the other location on Hunt Club. Our consensus was this Kanata location is smaller with less selection than the original location. We were happy to visit and see what it's all about, but since the Hunt Club location is closer to us, we'll continue to go to that location instead. The bakery section at this Kanata location is much smaller, as is the prepared foods section. I also noticed that they use sesame seeds in a lot more of their sushi than the Hunt Club location. As someone who can't eat sesame seeds and can rarely buy prepackaged sushi, this made me sad. They have dim sum and Chinese BBQ and also an area to eat the food you purchase. It's good court style seating. I did notice their impressive selection of imported Lay's chips. Their selection was comparable to the other location in this regard. I doubt I will return unless I'm already in the area for another reason because it's far from my home and I rather go to the Hunt Club location, but I think it's great for Kanata residents. And it's breathing some much needed life into Hazeldean Mall. Lots of free parking in the mall parking lot. (200)

The inside of the store is clean, the lighting is good, there's a lot of parking & direct access by bus. The only negative I would give to this store is that the aisles are a bit on the smaller side, and I can see this getting really busy. I went on a Thursday, it wasn't too busy but I was still having to navigate around people and bumping into a few others. Also, if you are someone that likes making soups and stocks you can get chicken bones here for $1 per pound

TL;DR/The Short Version: Small Pakistani, Indian and…read moreMediterranean market in Orleans. Good selection of groceries and has samosas and Indian sweets. The Long Version: This small grocery store in Orleans markets itself as a Pakistani, Indian and Mediterranean market. It just opened up in August 2025 where Istanbul Food Mart used to be on Des Epinettes. I didn't even know the Istanbul Food Mart closed, but my brother who lives in the area told me about it. And when I drove by I saw a sign with a picture of samosas and knew I had to check it out, lol. My mom loves samosas, so when I came to visit her (she also lives near the store) I asked her if she wanted to check out the store together, and of course she was game. They did indeed have samosas. The big regular type and the smaller ones made with phyllo pastry. The big ones were vegetarian and $1.50 each. The smaller ones were chicken and $0.75 each. We got a big one and 3 small ones. They also had Indian sweets such as Barfi, Ladoo, Jelebi, Gulab Jamun and Rasgulla, sold by the weight. I don't know all the names but we ended up getting 4 different types to try. You can see my photo. The store has lots of spices, sauces and mixes. As well as imported drinks and snacks (my favourite, lol). The store is neatly organized. There's also an area at the front with tables and chairs where you can sit to enjoy some food or drink. We had the chance to speak with Ali himself and he was very friendly and welcoming. He told us his plans to expand their menu. They will be selling shawarma. He's also thinking of items like samosa chaat. And maybe some fusion poutine like curry poutine, and likely regular poutine too, lol. I think if they expanded their menu, their eat-in area would be a great place to have a snack or meal. It's by the front, which is all windows, so feels like you're in a solarium. The space is very lovely, and surprisingly so since it's inside a grocery store, lol. I liked how Ali was very genuine. When my mom asked if they will be selling big meat samosas, he said she's the third person to ask him that, so they will likely do so in the future. When I asked him if they will be selling baked samosas, he said I'm the only person who's ever asked that and he thinks baked samosas will likely not sell. Lol. I appreciate honesty! And I get it, you need to sell what people will buy ;) (As an aside, my mom said to me, "Jennifer, people want to eat deep-fried delicious things, not baked healthy alternatives like you do!") Fair! Haha. Ali also told us when his sign at the corner advertising samosas was handwritten no one came in looking for samosas but after he got a sign with a picture of samosas on it people started coming in asking for samosas, lol. The samosas were delicious. The big vegetarian one was filled with potatoes, peas and spices. It was spicy! Spicier than most samosas I've had and I loved it. The flavour was also unique. It was more complex and interesting than other samosas I've had. The small samosas were also good, but pale in comparison to the big one in flavour. My parents enjoyed the Indian sweets. They were too sweet for my tastes, but I already knew this because most desserts are too sweet for my liking, lol. The one with a carrot halwa base was the least sweet and the most enjoyable to me. Anyway, I'm really excited to see how this store evolves. I'll be stopping by again with my mom to try their new items. It's in a little plaza so there's free parking in the shared parking lot with other businesses in the plaza. Review #157 (2025)

The Long Version: I had been to the Scottish and Irish Store out in Bells Corners but didn't know this one existed until I saw it while dropping off my husband at Funhaven to spend a few hours with a friend of his and the friend's kids. We got there early and the friend hadn't arrived yet, so that gave us the opportunity to poke around the store. There are 2 floors, with food being on the first floor and clothes, decor and other non-food items on the second floor. I was only interested in the food, lol, so didn't go up to the second floor. They had lots of snacks, my favourite type of food. Haha. They had chips/crisps, cookies/biscuits, candies, chocolates, etc. They also had lots of sodas and other drinks like juices. They had a clearance section where they marked down items that were nearing or past their best before dates. This is where I shopped since I found the regular prices a bit on the high side. I picked up some chips for my husband (Lamb and Rosemary flavoured ones and Cheese and Onion flavoured ones) and a bag of Monster Munch for us to share (Pickled Onions flavour). No bakery section with fresh baked goods, but they have frozen baked goods. Staff were pleasant. I chatted with the cashier and discovered they actually closed down their Bells Corners location. Good to know, lol. I feel this location on Baxter is more hidden, but hopefully they have established enough of a customer base that they'll be ok. Parking on the weekends (and I assume also when kids are not in school, like the summers, March Break, and PD Days) is epic since it's in the same complex as Funhaven. And kids were running around freely, at least that's what I saw when I was there. Otherwise, there's free parking in the complex. Review #63 (2025)

There is a seafood room with fresh lobsters, fish etc. There is a fresh food area where food goes by weight. I've done this x 2. Good but very expensive. Lots of packaged noodles which I love. The Long Version: My parents first introduced me to Green Fresh when they only had one location (the OG that was on Selkirk, that has since closed down). It was dingy and run down, but had lots of Asian ingredients that they were looking for. And it was the closest Asian grocery store to where they lived. They were thrilled when it moved to McArthur and had a total facelift, it was new, bright and clean. Green Fresh then opened a second location in Nepean on Merivale, closer to my neck of the woods. Then in January 2025, they opened this third location in Kanata/Stittsville. It's in the Grant Crossing, where the Bed, Bath and Beyond used to be (next to the Value Village). This newest location is very similar to the Nepean location. It even has the same bubble tea vendor inside (Y-Not Go For Tea). Which is a bit funny because the first Y-Not Go For Tea location is inside the Hunt Club T&T and T&T and Green Fresh are competitors! The Vanier Green Fresh has a different bubble tea vendor though: World Tea House. I visited this Kanata/Stittsville location shortly after opening, so maybe they don't have all their stuff together yet because although they have a section labelled "Bakery" they didn't have any baked goods :( However, they do have a prepared food section. It's self-serve and you pay by the weight ($2.29 per 100g). They also have a counter where they make Jianbing, Chinese crepes. There was a huge line up for these when I went, so they are definitely popular. They have lots of items, including snacks (my favourite aisles), lol. Most of the products are from China, but they have items from other countries too. They had Kracie DIY gummy kits imported from Japan. And they were only $4.99. The west end is now flush with Asian grocery stores (T&T, Kowloon, now Green Fresh, and soon Sunny Food Mart) compared to the east end (to my parents' chagrin). I'd say the prices here are the lowest generally speaking. However, the prepared foods did not look as appetizing to me as at the other Asian grocery stores. Free parking in the plaza parking lot. I got 2 regular meat pies ($3.25 each) and 2 meat with pomegranate sauce pies ($3.25 each) for my husband and I. As I was waiting, the nice man working there gave me a free cookie :) The cookie was a shortbread cookie partially dipped in chocolate. I have had many Middle Eastern meat pies, but this was my first time having a meat pie with pomegranate sauce. The pomegranate flavour was subtle and I mostly just tasted a twinge of sweetness to the pie. It was interesting, but I think I prefer regular meat pies instead. The regular meat pie was good and the seasonings are very different from the majority of other meat pies in the city. It had ground meat, tomatoes and parsley inside. The pastry of both pies were thin and crispy which I liked. I don't like it when it's too doughy. The pies were also a good size with a good amount of meat. They make for a very affordable snack. There are a few tables to eat in and a water fountain inside the bakery. Staff were pleasant. And I immediately like anyone who gives me free cookies, lol. The bakery is located in a strip mall.
