I just discovered The Butchery. What a revelation!…read more The shop is clean and attractive, with a very long display of many dozens of cuts of meat, many marinated. I bought a marinated flank steak that was amazing on the BBQ tonight. They also carry some great sauces, including my favourite Rufus and Teague Blazing Hot sauce. You can buy frozen pies from The Big Apple, which are the best pies around. They have a burger shack inside....sadly I was too early. Some other time. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the boss a really good man. This was a great discovery and I will happily drive the 25 km to get there. Very highly recommended.

Don't come here hungry! Wow!…read moreThis popped up when I plugged in 'butcher' near me. 15 min away. My first visit was a Sat. So busy! And for good reason. I was blown away by all the meat, the prepared goods. Burger counter. Some seating. Freezer choices. Some dried goods, bread. I got away with Chorizo, some lean ground beef and some beautiful olive oil. Is this place cheap? No! But, I pay for quality without batting an eye. Especially foodie stuff. Next round was a Tuesday aft. Ahhh. Better. I could see everything, not so packed. It was just after a long weekend so some things were sold out but I grabbed more lean beef, a chicken parm portion, a beef Jamaican patty and a stuffed potato. All were good! The chicken portion from the fresh cabinet was $11.50! More than my lb of ground beef! But it was a filling piece and fed me x 2. I love this place.

TLDR: Excellent butchery, market and deli. Tasty sandwiches, cool products and welcoming staff…read more Around The Block Butcher and Market opened up at this location on Feb 21, 2024. Prior to that they were on Cobden Rd (and this space on Centrepointe Dr was the Centrepointe Deli and Shake Shake Bubble Tea). The store sells raw meats, but also so much more. They sell frozen foods, deli meats, sandwiches, baked goods, snacks, and drinks too. On my first visit, I stopped by for a sandwich. Their menu changes daily, but I believe a few items are always available. I got the ATB Club Sandwich ($12.50). It had real pieces of chicken breast, thick cut bacon, lettuce and tomatoes. The default condiment is mayo, but I asked for mustard instead. It comes on a rectangular crusty bread. The sandwich was delicious, but a bit messy to eat, lol. The chicken pieces fell out of the sandwich and the lettuce is shredded, so the lettuce fell out of the sandwich too. Or maybe I'm just a messy eater, haha. My only complaint is that the sandwich was a bit small. I was definitely still hungry afterwards. So on my next visit, I supplemented my sandwich with a soup. I got the Roast Beef Sandwich ($14) and the Short Ribs and Vegetables Soup ($7). I enjoyed the roast beef sandwich less than the club because the sandwich was so oily. I don't know if they brushed the bread with oil but it was dripping oil. The soup was also on the oily side and the meat had pieces of fat and gristle. I enjoyed my first visit much more, so will likely just stick with the club sandwich. I did bring a colleague on my second visit and she got the Deli Trio Sandwich ($12), which she enjoyed. She also got the same soup as I did. They have Wagyu beef jerky! I've never seen that before. They also had lots of interesting brands and flavours of chips that I haven't seen before. They have cool drinks too, like sparkling botanical water from Collective Arts Brewery. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and ensured everyone was served in a timely manner. Free parking available in the shared parking lot with other businesses. (91)

Dave, Chantel and their chefs and staff are amazing. They are unique and offer so much. Love the bone in chicken breasts. They bake beautifully, and are always super moist. I wanted a smaller piece, so the person working cut me a smaller piece from the big piece of beef. The beef itself was aged well, but could have been more tender. I'm not in a hurry to try it again (I felt Saslove's meat quality was much more tender), but as for the beef's flavour, it was more pronounced. They also have a bone broth station, which I tried. I got the beef broth (more expensive to make than chicken), and added seaweed, scallions, and salt/pepper (to taste; I like that the broth doesn't have salt already)! It was a perfect cup of goodness on a cold day.

The Piggy Market is a cute little shop in Westboro that sells meats, cheeses, baked goods and…read moreprepared foods. It's definitely boutique-y as opposed to bargain-y if you know what I mean, lol. My husband loves their Jamaican beef patties, which are "homemade" as opposed to the highly processed stuff sold at supermarkets. I personally find them too greasy, but they are very flakey and filled with more meat than any other Jamaican beef patty I've ever seen! Their donuts are just ok, in my opinion, nothing remarkable. If you like European-style potato salads, I think you might like the potato salad at Piggy Market. The potatoes are firmer and it's less mayonnaise-y than North American potato salad. Their prepared meals are good to grab and go, but a bit pricey for what they are, in my opinion. For example, their vegetarian poke bowl is $14.50, which is about the same price as freshly prepared and customizable vegetarian bowls elsewhere. Pricing, aside, the food at Piggy Market is generally tasty. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The shop is on a side street off the main drag. It's right by Winston Square, so when the weather is nice, you can eat at Winston Square. Street parking only.

To…read moreme, The Piggy Market (bakery, deli and craft butcher shop), located in Canada's National Capital Region's Westboro neighbourhood, is making Jamaica proud! Over many, years my Jamaican born family members and I have scoured Ottawa-Gatineau, Miami and Jamaica looking for a Jamaican-style patty that can be described as 'nyam-ing' perfection. The Piggy Market delivers! How do they achieve this? I believe that it's all about their quality ingredients, mouth watering recipes, impactful blend of spices (flavourful heat) and a pastry shell that screams , "I am Jamaica Proud!" Today we visited for the first time and tried the Beef patties and Jerk Chicken patties. We're saving our next visit for Oxtail patties and any other patty menu items that we have yet to try. Every week The Piggy Market highlights a unique specialty patty on their menu. Note to the wise. Call in advance to find out what's available--what's on the patty menu that week.
