Horrific Experience - AVOID AT ALL COSTS…read more I am just finding the strength to write this after 3 years. I will keep this short and to the point. My brother committed suicide in Montana. Due to a miscommunication, my brother's cremains were shipped to my address in Canada. When I opened the door to receive the package, I saw that the delivery man's dark blue jacket was full of my brother's ashes. As I walked towards my home, my brother's ashes continued to pour out on the ground, on my floor, my counter and everywhere. There I stood, heartbroken and traumatized; My entire body was covered with my brother's ashes. As I sobbed, I tried sweeping and gathering his ashes up to recover as much of him as I could. My brother's precious remains had been scattered from Montana USA to Ottawa Canada. The cremain box arrived broken. The lid of the box also had a broken latch. The box also couldn't close because it was too full. Garden City Funeral Home did not secure it in any way. In addition, the plastic bag that held my brother's cremains had a large hole in it. We only received a portion of my brother. Can you imagine not receiving all of your loved one's body? Maybe a limb or a heart was missing? I've been devastated and traumatized by this. I've not found the courage to tell my mother that her son's ashes were spilled out from the USA to Canada. She would never have been able to cope with this. Dealing with suicide is difficult enough. And so I am now left carrying a horrible secret. I reached out to Garden City Funeral Home to report the disaster. The owner/operator Rick was totally without sympathy or apology. We gave the Garden City Funeral Home the last of our money and all I wanted to do was now try to do something to honour my brother with a respectful urn and ceremony of life. I requested a refund of the $2600 we had paid. I explained that I wished to bring my brother back to Montana to spread his ashes in the mountains as he had wished. Rick offered $800 but didn't follow through to make any payment at all. His lack of compassion and respect for my loved one hurts the most. I've needed professional services to help me overcome the grief and post-traumatic stress disorder. Nothing can return my brother to us. And it seems that Garden City Funeral Home couldn't care less I share my experience in hope that it will save you pain.
