I've been coming to Dalton Dental for years and the service is always A1. I never wait more than 5 minutes to be called back for my appointment. I mentioned to one of the hygienists months ago they banana is my least favorite food on earth and today when she was doing my polish she listed all the flavors then stopped and said "u hate banana. Dalton Dental has been my dentist for the last ten years, but sadly it is time for me to find a new dentist. It has always been more important for me to have a great dentist than a cheap dentist. I have always admired the work that Dr. Hilary Dalton has done. She turns dentistry into an art and is truly a genius. She will not allow her patients to leave the chair with a less than perfect smile. Unfortunately, that perfect smile comes at a price that I can no longer afford. I have dental insurance through Humana, but I have learned that my dental insurance hurts me more than it helps me at Dalton Dental. I grind my teeth and have caused quite a bit of expensive damage to my teeth. I now have a night guard, but it appears I may grind my teeth during the day as well. Because I work in sales and am always talking with clients it is impossible for me to wear a guard 24/7 so I have been in a vicious cycle of deteriorating my teeth. Throughout this process I have found that my dental insurance does not cover any teeth that were damaged by grinding my teeth. I have been in the process of slowly getting crowns on all of the teeth I have damaged by grinding. I cannot afford to get all of my teeth done at once so I have been getting the crowns two at a time. My most recent two crowns were done in December 2016. I paid $1,700 and my dental insurance was billed $1,100. When I went to Dalton Dental for a recent 6-month check-up I found out that my dental insurance denied the claim even though I had not reached my annual limit. My insurance only agreed to pay $39. Devastated by the news that I was going to have to pay $2,800 for two crowns I asked the receptionist if there was a discount if I paid cash, but she informed me that I had to pay the insurance price since the bill was submitted to insurance. At this point, I get it... it's not my dentist's fault that I grind my teeth and that my dental insurance sucks, but come on... $2,800?!?!?! Could the receptionist have mentioned to me back in December that there was a better chance that pigs would fly than Humana covering the crowns? She submits insurance claims every day so she had to be somewhat aware of which dental insurance (if any) would cover tooth damage caused by grinding. I would have not gone through my dental insurance had I known it was going to be more expensive than not using insurance. As much as I love my dentist I need a dentistry that can help me choose the most economic decisions and I feel that Dalton Dental has failed in that department. If you have any costly dental issues I would consider shopping all of your options before choosing Dalton Dental. It really saddens me to say this since the staff is so amazing, but I cannot rack up any more costly credit card bills from this dentist. read more

I had a bridge done here and it fell out the first day. I've been back multiple times and the same thing kept occurring (and I was charged), eventually they said they couldn't correct it and all they could do was keep putting it back (for $100 each time). Dr. Dalton is genuine and caring and amazing at what she does. The hygienist is normally the worse part in every dentist appointment, however the hygienist they have is so tender and smooth. Stay away. Not to be trusted. I became a patient of Dr. Dalton when she took over my previous dentist's practice at 3109 W. Swann Ave in Tampa. My first email from her is during Jan. of 2014 but I honestly don't know when she bought the practice. On July 21st, 2014 her practice moved to a new location on Gandy Blvd. where she now practices. All this is to say I believe if you go to Dr. Dalton you will be told all manner of problems that you have with your teeth and gums and that it really is necessary for you to take care of them as soon as possible. I got a crown from the extremely pleasant and enthusiastic Dr. Dalton and she urged me to have gum surgery before I left her care. I don't recall the exact cost I was quoted for the gum surgery by her receptionist but it was more than half the price of a new car. 18 months have passed since I left Dr. Dalton and I have been under the care of another dentist for that entire time. My teeth have been praised and gum surgery has never been brought up. I did not mention my previous dental experience when I picked my new dentist so I would get an honest opinion of my oral health. Dr. Dalton appears to be capable and she has all the latest bells and whistles to dazzle you with when you show up. Just be warned that all those things have to be payed for and I believe that sometimes the needs of Dr. Dalton take priority over the needs of the patient. Before I stop this review let me say that I agreed to all the procedures and care I received while under the care of Dr. Dalton. She is genuinely up for the challenge to creating a new relationship between dentist and patient. No pain.... zero when she gives injections. No crazy fees... in fact there was no charge for service I was charged for at other offices. They worked with me from beginning to end. Her staff is by your side they every procedure actively ensuring that you are comfortable... and happy. Seriously cannot say enough. Within the 1st 5 minutes I was overwhelmed with their positive no stress approach to dentistry. Dr. DALTON IS AMAZING! She is so kind and uses all the newest equipment so everything is as pain free as possible. As I write this, I am sitting the chair after getting a crown! I just went to Dr. Dalton for a new patient consultation. Prior to going, I had shared with her staff my previous experiences where other dentists had tried to upsell me on unneccessary or uncovered procedures. I made it very clear to her staff that I was not interested in being upsold. Unfortunately, it appears that her staff doesn't communicate well (way to leave your team in the dark, Jennifer). I was dramatically upsold. From the other reviews you can see that she has a history of upselling. So, now I'm back here at home, so, so frustrated that my concerns were clearly ignored and taking advantage of Yelp. Here's some additional detail. For example, frenectomy without the laser = out of pocket ~$150 to me. Frenectomy with the "magic laser" = out of pocket $700 to me. The laser is NOT covered by my insurance, not for any procedure. Apparently, this laser is rarely covered by any insurance. And, be clear: Dr. Dalton uses the laser for her procedures. Every time she uses it costs $550 per quadrant. So, if she plans to use the laser on all 4 quadrants of your mouth, you're out $2,200 out of pocket, because insurance won't cover it. My previous periodontist (I'm new to Tampa), had described this "magic laser" to me, but she had not purchased one and not used it on me. I can also say that my previous periodontist would have communicated the implications of the treatment plan in a very different manner. My previous periodontist would have included a reasonable discussion of the financial considerations as part of the consultation and would have thrown in a little warning, such as "I'm not sure if your insurance covers lasers". Something like that goes a long way. Instead, Dr. Dalton leaves the money stuff to her insurance coordinator. So, you leave your meeting with Dr. Dalton thinking you're going to enter a treatment plan, only to find out later that Dr. Dalton's "magic lasers" aren't covered by your insurance. So, now to search around for another periodontist. Someone who won't push uncovered machines. Someone who understands that patients have to balance keeping their teeth with the realities of life. Clearly Dr. Dalton is just out to milk her patients for every last dime. read more

This time I was basically told I can't come back for cleanings unless I take care of a tooth they want to work on. Kudos to Dr. Dalton and her team at Dalton Dental. They have always have provided me with stellar service but based on my resent experience I am even a bigger fan. Yesterday, Sunday, I broke a crown on my upper teeth so I decided to email the office. Within 10 minutes I got an email back from Dr. Dalton (on Sunday) saying it would be fine and they would work me in and would take care of my problem. When I woke up this morning and turned on my phone there was a message from the office manager giving me time options for today. I was able to go at 10 AM and now all is good. I recently moved to Florida and needed to find a dentist to replace my old dentist of 25 years. I decided to try Dalton Dental since the office looked convent and I saw an encouraging article in the Tampa magazine. Though I've had biannual cleanings for the past 25 years at no out of pocket expense, I was told by Dalton dental I required a deep cleaning and after their extras I would have a $750 out of pocket expense. The cleaning didn't last any longer or go any "Deeper" than any other cleaning I've ever had. Then to top off the insult, I was told I needed to return once a month foranothercleaning (Fleasing is more like it) This business is an absolute scam! DON'T RECOMMEND THIS DENTIST AT ALL. Went to her after the previous dentist moved. Right away, she told me I had gum disease and needed treatments every 3 months. They also said they had checked with my insurance and that they would pay for these treatments. She also said that I had a filling that needed to be replaced that was going to break soon. This really took me by surprise since I go to the dentist religiously every 6 months and have never had gum disease. I decided to go to a dentist that a friend of mine recommended. After checking, he said my filling was fine and that I didn't have gum disease. I have been going to him now for 4 years and everything is fine. UNBELIEVABLE!!
