One downfall is that she's located so far from where I live and it's sort of a mission to get there but we make shopping trips out of my visits with her! :) which leads me to another issue... psychiatrists do not accept insurance! boo! I did find a PAYING job and Dr. Mekles is very supportive and shows real interest. With Dr. Mekles - I'm able to taper my benzodiazepine slowly - with lots of support from the doctor. He's very patient and is very understanding and knowledgeable about withdrawal symptoms. He didn't push me - but prodded me to do this vital step The secretary is very helpful. She answers text messages immediately - to assist with medication renewal requests and appointment changes - when needed. Very professional indeed Medication management is the best I've ever had and he tries his best to keep my med count to a minimal level. I highly recommend Dr. Mekles - and thank you very much.

The provider did not review the data we submitted, then sent us for further testing that we later realized was repeated testing and ultimately we couldn't use any of the evaluation from NYC Psychiatric Associates for the school meeting (in two days) because it has been deemed invalid because the same testing had been completed four months earlier by the school and due to the time frame was invalid. We sent records from many different sources, and it is now our understanding had they actually reviewed that data the testing they recommended wasn't even warranted. We spent a lot of time and energy on these providers. They are kind, but ultimately careless, not thorough, and incompetent. Ultimately the "results" hurt our case with the school who we have already had many struggles with. What they provided us with was literally not usable and we told them many times what we had hoped to accomplish with that documentation. Now they say "we provided the diagnosis" and dismiss the other reasons we went to them. Justifying everything, and it was expensive. My family invested in it! They did not review all of the testing from other providers, and had they done so it is now our impression they should not of recommended further testing because it was unnecessary. My family feels like we were provided poor guidance, our concerns for our daughter were capitalized on for profit. We requested a refund since the documentation could not be used at the school as we had told them we needed multiple times (even sharing concerns it could not be the same testing multiple times) and I have multiple emails in my inbox in which they justify the quality of their work saying "we have her a diagnosis" - then minimize and deny the validity of the concerns we have posed regarding the entire experience, and they are refusing to refund us. They have offered to revise the documentation, but I have already submitted what they originally sent me to the school. They have lost credibility, and so have we. It has already been dismissed by the school as unusable. The school meeting is tomorrow, and the "magic bullet" we thought we had invested in is a ZERO and a major hit to our bank account. The staff seem very sweet well meaning, but results are NIL. Cold competence that gets results is far better than the lip service we received. They seem as though they genuinely care, but at the end of the day the results did not get us what we needed for our daughter. The staff seemed kind, but the competence simply wasn't there. Reviewing available data is important to the process and *standard in this field and it shocked us the way things have transpired. 100% unprofessional. When we had issues, I had to ask many many times before a supervisor ever even got back to me. A literal nightmare. This has now been a back and forth email for over a week with no refund in sight. I'm sick of this situation, and we are already so stressed addressing things with the school this has just been another problem. They knew we had limited resources walking into this, and we feel used and burnt out and like we have less faith in providers of this caliber than we did when we walked into this situation looking for help. I encourage you to strongly question any of the recommendations they give you and "evaluations" they recommend and whether or not that is even warranted. If you have alternate providers that you trust, I would start there instead. They profited off of a vulnerable child and scared family in out experience... and when they made mistakes, they doubled down. Not a place I would invest in to help my child

I can understand if they have already processed my application, or have offered me some of their services, but none of that had happened. I had literally signed up around 3pm on a Tuesday and emailed them about cancellation at 8am on Wednesday. They've been so difficult to deal with, kept repeating the fact that they have a $150 cancellation fee without any empathy or rationale for the fee. It is quiet shocking to experience this level of customer service in today's society when customer service is crucial to a business reputation. But they seem to not care. I would stay away!

She also does notice some issues most doctors won't which is a great thing. But that's about it. I switched to her a few years back mainly to treat Hypothyroidism, thinking she'd be able to advise on holistic treatments. I believe the main issue is the administrative side of her office and her staff is extremely unfocused and disorganized. Basically: you go to one appointment - dr Polina does take the time to listen - and then you are recommended several supplements based on the issues you describe. She's not making money off of them as you just get them yourself later. BUT, there's no follow up whatsoever and she doesn't seem to remember what she told you to take. Not to mention the "treatment" was never written down, just loosely relayed during the appointment, so you always leave confused. So what happens is you spend your money on buying supplements and have to remember to take (several) but you're not sure if they really make any difference as there's no talking about it next time unless you purposefully ask about each. It's not my job to remind her what she prescribed last time! It's like there's not a real treatment in place. And the recommendations feels a bit impulsive and confusing. She claims to be holistic but I don't feel I'm treated as a whole nor that my "treatment" makes sense in the big picture or treating me holistically. It's an "aloof" kind of situation which brings your anxiety up instead of really making your quality of life better. Her staff is quite a mess, majorly her main secretary. She's probably been there for years and acts like the gatekeeper but is not that helpful. Many times specially after pandemics they don't really pick up the phone despite working from their home. Not to mention I don't think she's a specialist in thyroid treatment whatsoever and I'm having horrid symptoms since the last time she changed my meds. But the lack of follow through and a clear, defined course of treatment on medical issues is making me leave and not wanting to come back.
