They are very busy talking and cutting up to pay attention to the customers. There was one that seemed to try. Needs a deep cleaning. It's after all one of the few options around here. On our way to Ruidoso we had a quick stop here to grab lunch. We used the drive through and the lady told us we need to wait for a few min to get our food. I saw some other reviewers complained about it but it sounded completely reasonable, given the fact that it took us only 20 sec to get to the window from the time we placed our order, they brought our food to us in the parking lot after almost 10 min. We got the family meal. A whole bunch of fried chicken tenders, fries and toasts. Everything was just average. Nothing especial. My expectations wasn't that high so I think I was almost satisfied. Given the experience and quality of food, I think 3/5 is fair. read more

I am truly reticent to give such low scores, but I have to say this was a bad bad experience all the way through. Placing my order, the young man was clearly unhappy and didn't want to be there. My order took a long time. Honestly, don't mind that part as I was thinking that meant it would be cooked fresh and not sitting under a burner. The hamburger was actually cold in the middle and the buns were cold, as if they had been taken out of a fridge. The fries were not very warm, and mostly limp greasy potato slabs. Just terrible. You see, I was travelling from Fort Worth to Ruidoso, a trip I have made many times since my mom lives in New Mexico. We love Dairy Queen, but this is one of the worst I've been to. Here were some of the problems we had: Difficult to hear at the drive-thru speaker. She evidently couldn't hear us either, as we had to repeat multiple parts of the order. There was one person ahead of us at the drive-thru. We waited about ten minutes for this person to be waited on. Then, we waited another five or ten minutes at the window ourselves. We ordered a mini Blizzard, a medium Blizzard, and a large Dr Pepper. We were given two mini Blizzards and a large Dr Pepper. To their credit, when I brought this up, they corrected it by letting us keep both mini Blizzards and getting us the medium Blizzard quickly. However, the two mini Blizzards were not turned upside down per standard Dairy Queen policy (and for good reason, since they were melted and soupy). The person helping us had to ask her co-workers two different times to quiet down. They were evidently having a party in there from all the laughing we heard. I also observed a couple of other employees who appeared to be just standing around doing nothing. If they got busy, maybe we would have had our Blizzards more quickly and not melted. The person helping us took the Lord's name in vain. The next time we go through Plains, we will probably not stop here again unless we're desparate. read more

Waited 30 mins for my order. Everything was made wrong. They sliced up a hamburger patty to fit the kids meal bun. They sliced the grilled chicken so they could only use half of the chicken breast. Gave me chicken strip basket with no gravy. When I asked they stated they ran out of gravy. I asked to get my money back and the guy stated "I know you waited a long time for your food, so I'm going to give you a full refund and you don't have to bring the food back." He left and brought a young girl (last name sounded like Hancock) to complete the refund. She asked me what was wrong with the food. I explained what was wrong with each item and showed her the cut up patties. She rudely stated "that's a regular patty." When you can clearly see where they cut up the patty to either save on patties or make it fit to the bun. The guy worker tells her "just give them the refund, I told them I was going to give it to them." She was very upset and stated "go get and bring me back all the food" and tried to keep my debit card. After I put out my hand so she can return my card she hesitantly gave it back. As I started walking back to my car to get the food she shouts"where's the rest of the food." I responded with "do you want to come with me to get it?" And she stated "no, you go get it and bring it to me!" I wasted 50 mins at this place and all for nothing. Their restrooms were also extremely dirty. Men's restroom had poop all over the toilet and floor. Dining area was completely filthy. The older lady cook had no pride in her work. Even though this is the only fast food place in town, don't waste your time and keep driving to the next town. My kids stayed hungry and our drive time increased because of this delay. read more

I stood at the counter for 5 minutes without being acknowledged by either of the two counter girls 2 feet away. They finally took my order, and I waited about 10 mins to get it. The fries were raw and I sent them back. Got new crispy fries, and the chicken fingers were good. The beverage station was filthy, sticky, and gross. No paper towels (or air dryer) in ladies room. Where do I start? Food was good for DQ. My fries and burger were good. My wife's white grazy looked like water. She didn't eat it. My cone was gross and tasted old. I've never threw out ice cream but this time I did. The cleanliness of the restaurant was horrid. FLIES EVERYWHERE! And I mean everywhere. The whole restaurant looked like it hadn't been cleaned in forever. The restroom stunk so bad. I actually covered my face with my shirt. The guy who walked in after me walked back out gagging after he went to use the toilet. They went and cleaned it after he complained. If I had read reviews about this place we wouldn't have stopped. I have worked in customer service since I was 18 years old so I know about how difficult some customers can be. I've lived in plains all my life and have always loved dairy queen. There was a time when I can say it was the best as far as the food, cleanliness and the employees. But now it's pathetic. I honestly don't know how this place is ignored or overlooked by the corporate office. I was still a frequent customer and tried to support it even though I noticed the standards weren't as high as they used to be. The main problem is the MANAGER!!!! I don't know where they found her but she is the rudest most fake employee they have. And with her in the lead it's no wonder this place has gone in the toilet. I drove up to pick up my called in order (getting someone to answer the phone is a miracle) I let her know and she was the sweetest thing "honey" this and "sweetie" that... She gave me my order, two burgers drinks and fries and I handed her my debit card. She swipes it and IMMEDIATELY her attitude changes... She looks at me and says rude as hell IT DECLINED! I reached for my card and she tossed it to me thru the window. I let it go and apologized and said I would have to go get my other card and asked if she wanted me to leave the food until I came back to pay. She looks at me and rolled her eyes, stuck her hand out waving her finger at me and says "I'm gonna let u take it but you BETTER BRING ME MY MONEY!!!!!" I was tempted to throw the food in her face but I said I would be right back and she repeated her statement but louder. That was it... I admit I was rude back and told her I didn't need to steal two dry burgers and fries and drove off. I called my bank and asked why my card was declined and they said they stopped the charge because they had been getting complaints of "suspicious activity from the merchant" (DQ) so he said for me to have them run the card again. So I go back and park in the drive thru and she sticks her head out and sees me. There was a car in front of me and I'm not exaggerating I waited almost 20 minutes waiting for her to stop talking to this person before they drove away. As I drove up there's loud music playing and she's dancing around like an idiot, reaches out and I told her to run it again. She did and I reached for my card and AGAIN SHE THREW IT TO ME! at this point I drove off. That night my son was begging me for a Sunday and I didn't want to go back but I thought it was night time and surely she was gone... WRONG! I get to the window and her daughter who is just as hateful as she is tells me I need to leave and can't go back because I was rude to the manager earlier. I just had to laugh at the whole situation. This place is a joke and I can't believe it's even open due to the way its run. It's disgusting. I work at a convenience store and have people come in that are passing thru that are treated just as bad. It's really sad because in this area you have at least a 30 min drive between towns. I love my town and this place makes frequent travelers drive thru without any desire to do anything but get to the next town as soon as possible. If I could give zero stars I would. I'm from Plains and I have no qualms saying this is one of the worst establishments ever! It is filthy. All the tables are dirty, the restroom are disgusting, there are flies everywhere. It takes 30 minutes to receive a "fast food" order whether you are dining in or going through the drive through. For food that is not preheated, it is still cold! The service is not good at all. They are often out of food, drinks, ice cream, cups, steaws, etc. It has consistently gone down hill over the years. We only come here when my daughter is desperate, but even then we are better off driving the 15 minutes to the next town over! read more
