I'm not sure how I've missed writing a review for this nostalgic and fantastic ice cream shop for so long....especially after ending my reverse surprise birthday party here last year....with 18 of my closest friends on a party bus.... They were so sweet to let me bring a cake earlier in the day to hold for me...and then let me decorate it in the back of their shop so I could surprise my friends with that while they were all in line ordering ice cream. Everyone had so much fun and then capturing pics with Elvis and in the cars and just enjoying the ice cream (and cake) itself... the 50's vibe is just super cute. What a fun place and great ice cream....even dairy free options (DOLE WHiP) Outside of that event, I've been here on lots of other occassions and it seems to be busiest within the last 30 minutes before closing...and not just on weekends! I find them to get busy during the week just before closing as well. I have never been through the drive through - I either order and hang out at the picnic tables there or I still stand in line and get my ice cream to go. What a candy colored oasis this is! All pink and aqua, like Barbie and Ken were gonna pull up next to you-but retro Barbie and Ken... since this super cute ice cream shop with the walk up window-has been there since 1958. And I'm all in for the kitschy, mid-century feel. I came on a whim-since I happened to be close by, on a Saturday afternoon. It's easy to spot along Manhattan Ave, with its pink and white striped awning and umbrellas. Parking is right there and there are two outside eating areas, with picnic tables and umbrellas. They're surrounded by foliage and there's astroturf underneath. It's giving off total malt shop/drive-in from Grease" vibes. It's family and dog friendly, with corn hole and little lights overhead. There's a huge menu, but I decided to do the simple and classic twist cone. It was humongous! I had to eat fast on such a hot afternoon. It was so good! I can't wait to come back when the weather cools down... and linger longer with a sweet treat! They have lots to choose from-and the prices are very reasonable. The clerk working the window was very friendly and nice. The parking was easy. The restrooms are in back and I can't wait to see this place lit up at night. But wait: there's more! Dairy Joy also owns another vintage building next door-that features drive-thru service and an Elvis statue out front. I've got to check that out, too. Well done, Dairy Joy! I was hesitant about whether there would be non-dairy options at a spot with "dairy" in the name..but the non-dairy options were plentiful! I went with the non-dairy chocolate ice cream and it was delightfully smooth and creamy! It's so easy for dairy-free ice cream to go wrong, but this was perfect! There was a long line when we arrived, but I was seriously impressed at how quickly the employee was moving people through. Can't believe this is the first time I've visited here. I kept seeing it in IG and I had to go. Finally finally today was the perfect day. We ordered a scoop of rum raisin, a scoop of pineapple dole whip, and a pup cup. The line seemed long but went fast. We sat down in the left side seating areas. There's another area on the right side. We wanted to be next to the cars. Elvis Presley was there too. Didn't take his pic. They are a really cute little old-school stand that has since expanded to include a drive-through next door. When I first started coming here, they were a cheap soft-serve option with creative sundaes in a cute, retro environment. Recently, I've noticed prices have gone up quite a bit and there are less rotating sundaes/flavors than there used to be. Small spoon-thicks (their version of a Blizzard or McFlurry) are $7.99, and while they are quite big for a small, this is hefty price tag for soft serve blended with a topping or two. Additionally, while they do offer hard scooped ice cream, it is not homemade (I believe it's Hershey's?) and is over $6 for a medium scoop. Cute place with yummy shakes and sundaes, but I've definitely been coming less since the price hikes. read more

Cute little ice cream shop with great ambiance. The line is always packed, which I thought was a good sign. They have lots of flavors to choose from- my go-to is always birthday cake or cake batter ice cream. I've gotten the milkshake and the regular scoop and have been disappointed both times. First experience here and we love it. We ordered a Fluffer Nutter Sunday with vanilla soft serve, marshmallow fluff and peanut butter sauce served in a waffle bowl and ordered Coffee chip in a waffle bowl with whipped cream. Both of these were quite large and we could have shared them. We struggled through finishing them as they were so large. These were very tasty. Great flavors and great ice cream consistency. The Coffee Chip had a rich coffee flavor with what seemed like small chunks of fudgy brownie and chocolate chips throughout. This is a walk up window with pick ic tables on either side of the building with umbrellas. The seating areas were surrounded by plant walls to make this feel more homey than being in a parking lot. We recommend this place for sure as they have a wide menu of different ice cream flavors, both hand dipped and soft serve, snow cones, sodas and hot dogs. There appeared to be just one worker who greeted every customer with a smile and positive greeting. We will be back! read more

Sunday 9/15/2024 I found this spot while searching through Reddit for Tampa's best ice cream so I decided to make a visit. They have a drive thru location and ice cream stand location that are right next to each other but I ended up going to the ice cream stand location. The service was pretty good: I called in person about flavor availability and they were kind in answering my question. They also kept that same kindness in person as well. Before going I wanted to try both their premium flavors and try their shake but I only fulfilled the premium flavor half. I sampled the cookies n cream (premium) and the chocolate fudge brownie (premium). They were both pretty good flavors but cookies n cream was my favorite (of the two) so I ended up getting a pint $7 of it. All in all, my visit to dairy joy was good one. The prices are fair, the service is nice, and the ice cream is good. I'd recommend this spot and come back in the future (I gotta try the shake lol). read more
