What a candy colored oasis this is! All pink and aqua, like Barbie and Ken were gonna pull up next to you-but retro Barbie and Ken... since this super cute ice cream shop with the walk up window-has been there since 1958. And I'm all in for the kitschy, mid-century feel. I came on a whim-since I happened to be close by, on a Saturday afternoon. It's easy to spot along Manhattan Ave, with its pink and white striped awning and umbrellas. Parking is right there and there are two outside eating areas, with picnic tables and umbrellas. They're surrounded by foliage and there's astroturf underneath. It's giving off total malt shop/drive-in from Grease" vibes. It's family and dog friendly, with corn hole and little lights overhead. There's a huge menu, but I decided to do the simple and classic twist cone. It was humongous! I had to eat fast on such a hot afternoon. It was so good! I can't wait to come back when the weather cools down... and linger longer with a sweet treat! They have lots to choose from-and the prices are very reasonable. The clerk working the window was very friendly and nice. The parking was easy. The restrooms are in back and I can't wait to see this place lit up at night. But wait: there's more! Dairy Joy also owns another vintage building next door-that features drive-thru service and an Elvis statue out front. I've got to check that out, too. So grab your fellow T-birds or Pink Ladies and shimmy on over here. It's peachy keen, Jelly bean!
Dairy Joy has been on my food bucket list for years and I'm so glad I finally tried it. It's such a cute ice cream shop, with a fun outdoor sitting area that has two old fashion cars. You can sit in them and enjoy your ice cream. Service was quick and was even able to try samples. Both the soft serve and hard ice cream were delicious. The milkshakes looked delicious and their monthly flavors and combos sounded delicious. However, you can never go wrong with mint chocolate chip. It's definitely a favorite here! Dairy Joy also has a second location right next door that is drive through. How fun!!! With an old fashion flare, and classic and unique ice cream flavors, snow cones, milkshakes and many other menu items, Dairy Joy has it all for everyone!
Well done, Dairy Joy! I was hesitant about whether there would be non-dairy options at a spot with "dairy" in the name..but the non-dairy options were plentiful! I went with the non-dairy chocolate ice cream and it was delightfully smooth and creamy! It's so easy for dairy-free ice cream to go wrong, but this was perfect! There was a long line when we arrived, but I was seriously impressed at how quickly the employee was moving people through. If you want a fun outdoor spot to get some top-notch ice cream in Tampa, I can't think of a better option than Dairy Joy.

Service - with good places of course you should expect a wait -- hello everyone wants the best too. Friendly staff - knowledgeable and hard working, bustin' butt type of people! 3. Ice cream options -- EXCELLENT, way more options than my other go to places that are closer to my home. They even offer other things outside of ice cream. This is such a cute summer outing idea, date idea, or after dinner with friends idea. I loved it and truly a year round place bc then again we're in FL & who doesn't love ice cream 25/8

I've been coming to Dairy Joy pretty regularly since I moved to Tampa around 7/8 years ago. They are a really cute little old-school stand that has since expanded to include a drive-through next door. When I first started coming here, they were a cheap soft-serve option with creative sundaes in a cute, retro environment. Recently, I've noticed prices have gone up quite a bit and there are less rotating sundaes/flavors than there used to be. Small spoon-thicks (their version of a Blizzard or McFlurry) are $7.99, and while they are quite big for a small, this is hefty price tag for soft serve blended with a topping or two. Additionally, while they do offer hard scooped ice cream, it is not homemade (I believe it's Hershey's?) and is over $6 for a medium scoop. Cute place with yummy shakes and sundaes, but I've definitely been coming less since the price hikes.
I grew up coming here as well as my kids. It brings back many memories. They offer a variety of cones and they have soft serve ice cream. In addition, you can have your cones topped or dipped in many different flavors. They have regular ice cream too. Walk up service or drive-through is offered. Come check it out.
The ice cream here is to die for. Definitely one of my favorite guilty pleasures. The scoops are all good, but the boat brownie sundae is the best; coming with brownies, hot fudge, three scoops, peanuts, whipped cream and a cherry on top. The staff is always friendly. We went through the drive thru, but for folks that want to sit at the establishment, their seating is all outside (with cute decor) but just prepare!
The best local ice cream spot in South Tampa - without that sterile franchise feel. We come here often for their soft serve and great vibes. We always bring out of town guests here and they love the atmosphere and agree it's a must visit while in Tampa. Sometimes "no frills" soft serve is just what you need. :)

I've been to Dairy Joy quite a few times and realized I've somehow never left a review, so it's definitely overdue! This visit I got the pineapple Dole Whip because I wanted something sweet without the dairy, and it was so good. I originally wanted the strawberry flavor, but I went through the drive-thru and found out they only have that at the walk-up location next door where you can hang out outside. On previous visits I've gotten the vanilla soft serve, and it's honestly my favorite soft serve in the area. It's so creamy and always hits the spot. One thing that's always consistent is how friendly and fast the staff is. Whether I'm going through the drive-thru or ordering at the window, I've always had a great experience. If you're looking for ice cream, Dole Whip, or even a dairy-free treat, I definitely recommend Dairy Joy. They also have other food like hot dogs if you're looking for more than just dessert. It's one of my go to spots whenever I'm craving something sweet! read more
YUM!!!! We have always heard great things about Dairy Joy but never got the chance to go... we did after a date night dinner and we had the best experience. They have so many different flavors and options, it was hard to pick! I'm not sure how I've missed writing a review for this nostalgic and fantastic ice cream shop for so long....especially after ending my reverse surprise birthday party here last year....with 18 of my closest friends on a party bus.... They were so sweet to let me bring a cake earlier in the day to hold for me...and then let me decorate it in the back of their shop so I could surprise my friends with that while they were all in line ordering ice cream. Everyone had so much fun and then capturing pics with Elvis and in the cars and just enjoying the ice cream (and cake) itself... the 50's vibe is just super cute. What a fun place and great ice cream....even dairy free options (DOLE WHiP) Outside of that event, I've been here on lots of other occassions and it seems to be busiest within the last 30 minutes before closing...and not just on weekends! I find them to get busy during the week just before closing as well. I have never been through the drive through - I either order and hang out at the picnic tables there or I still stand in line and get my ice cream to go. But always the nicest kids working there and love this shop! read more

First experience here and we love it. We ordered a Fluffer Nutter Sunday with vanilla soft serve, marshmallow fluff and peanut butter sauce served in a waffle bowl and ordered Coffee chip in a waffle bowl with whipped cream. Both of these were quite large and we could have shared them. We struggled through finishing them as they were so large. These were very tasty. Great flavors and great ice cream consistency. The Coffee Chip had a rich coffee flavor with what seemed like small chunks of fudgy brownie and chocolate chips throughout. This is a walk up window with pick ic tables on either side of the building with umbrellas. The seating areas were surrounded by plant walls to make this feel more homey than being in a parking lot. We recommend this place for sure as they have a wide menu of different ice cream flavors, both hand dipped and soft serve, snow cones, sodas and hot dogs. There appeared to be just one worker who greeted every customer with a smile and positive greeting. We will be back! read more

I got the vanilla soft serve dipped in cherry and my boyfriend got the cookies and cream ice cream. The soft serve was yummy but I didn't love the dip. The cookies and cream was just your standard cookies & cream ice cream. The place was cute & lots of kids running around but the employees didn't seem in the best mood. read more
Sunday 9/15/2024 I found this spot while searching through Reddit for Tampa's best ice cream so I decided to make a visit. They have a drive thru location and ice cream stand location that are right next to each other but I ended up going to the ice cream stand location. The service was pretty good: I called in person about flavor availability and they were kind in answering my question. They also kept that same kindness in person as well. Before going I wanted to try both their premium flavors and try their shake but I only fulfilled the premium flavor half. I sampled the cookies n cream (premium) and the chocolate fudge brownie (premium). They were both pretty good flavors but cookies n cream was my favorite (of the two) so I ended up getting a pint $7 of it. All in all, my visit to dairy joy was good one. The prices are fair, the service is nice, and the ice cream is good. I'd recommend this spot and come back in the future (I gotta try the shake lol). read more
Amazing cherry dip soft serve!!!! I have been CRAVING cherry dip but it's so hard to find! Can't wait to try everything here. Great spot with lots of outdoor seating. Fun ice cream and slushy flavors like tiger's blood. You can build your own sundae or order one of their classic versions, like the chocolate turtle. Came on a weeknight and there was no line so we got our ice creams quickly. The staff was kind enough to give my dog her own little pup cup. We sat outside and enjoyed the sunset! read more
What a vibe, read on I've got the inside scoop ;) After a morning at the Davis Island dog beach, we were all craving a sweet treat. Saw this scene and it looked immaculate, old style 50s diner meets Florida tropical backyard. Being a Sunday, there was a line, but it moved fast. We got a small cup, birthday cake and fudge brownie with waffle cone ($5ish) and a pup cup which was FREE. Seating is all outside (and dog friendly) but with plenty of shade so you or your cone doesn't melt too fast. Make sure you walk around and get plenty of insta-worthy scoop shots ;) read more

4 stars for some good ice cream and cute pastel vibes. We came on a hot day with our puppers and he was very excited for a cup cup. The pup cup is vanilla soft serve with some mini dog bone treats. We order a small ice cream with two flavors chocolate fudge brownie and birthday cake, $3.99 with a waffle cone +$1. The ice cream was tasty but the cone wasn't something that was freshly made. They do offer different types of soft serve, I wanna come back to try those. There's plenty of nice shaded areas to enjoy your ice cream. If you're in a hurry there's a drive-thru right next store! read more

This place is so so cute. Really like coming here. They have A LOT of options including shakes, sundaes, cones, and even dole whip. The staff there are always very nice and they make the orders very quickly. They also have a drive thru which I've never been to but always look busy. Would recommend trying this place out. Their ice creams taste very good. Their one and only flaw is their minimal parking. read more
A stop for a Sunday ice cream and stepping back in time. All sorts of options to enjoy! We had a small Hot Fudge Sundae and a butter pecan ice cream cone. Service is always friendly and you could play a game of cornhole, if you're interested or take a family photo in one of the mini classic cars. Elvis is always standing guard. read more
I absolutely love the vibes here and that's the main reason I stopped by to try this place out. I wasn't expecting much, but the ice cream was delicious. I got a medium cup which comes with 3 scoops. I tried cookies n cream & cookie monster. The cookie monster was my #1 favorite. I will say compared to other ice cream shops they definitely give you big portions here. Dairy Joy has been in South Tampa for a very long time. You can walk up to the window or do drive thru. There is a lot to choose from as far flavors. More sugar free options is needed. I just got the strawberry frozen cone and sat on the side of the building enjoying the Sunday breeze. So, stop by if you are South Tampa and listen to nostalgic music. read more
