Every time I've been here for lunch, it has been relatively quiet, which may be dull for those that enjoy people watching, but great for folks that want a guaranteed seat and quick service in a traditional Chinese restaurant. The lunch specials are around $10 for a large plate, with the rice served in a separate bowl, so it doesn't appear like a meal for one, and thus makes it great for sharing. Hence I've usually come with 4 or more people, and we get to feast on a variety of dishes which leave us full and satisfied. I had the pleasure of trying their peking duck over lunch as well, and while it may not be as amazing as some other famed peking duck restaurants in the suburbs, it was delicious and once again, portions were generous. Normally they say one duck is good for 2 to 3 people and yes I've felt the despair of craving for more fleshy duck meat after it's all gone, but this one comfortably fed 4 of us, without having to fight for its last succulent pieces. Maybe we were just lucky that our duck was obese :) The pancakes supplied had run out before the duck was finished (a common occurrence) though it did seem like the coverage was slightly better here. If you need a top up of the spring onion, cucumber and/or hoi-sin sauce, just ask. I can't comment on the dinner experience at this restaurant, but lunch is certainly stress free, and good value. Ordering a peking duck will obviously bump up the price but for a special treat, I think it's worth it.

【Extremely Bad experience】attitude of the boss was terrible, and this is the worst Chinese food experience in Australia. BE CAREFUL.

A twenty year favourite with the best Peking Duck in Australia! Great service, traditional decor, well priced, amazing reasonable wine list with good prices. A must visit when in Melbourne and really an institution in a hot CHINESE precinct.

My New Favourite Chinese Restaurant in Melbourne. One must give credit where credit is due, and this eatery deserves 6 stars for so many reasons. However, when rating restaurants regardless of the cuisine, one must always take all aspects of the restaurant's offering into account. Nevertheless, its fair to say that; if I were rating it based solely on quality of food product, presentation, and taste, it would definitely score 6 stars. Firstly, the restaurant is conveniently situated on Little Bourke, as most of the restaurants in Chinatown are. When you finally arrive at their front door, you are greeted by a lovely young lady who was doing an admiral job of spruking for this very under-rated eatery. Then, you walk up a flight if stairs to the dining room where you are greeted by a few staff who seem only to eager to please. I was escorted to my table by the lovely Hostess Judy. Not only was she empathetic to my Coeliac condition, she actually went to great lengths to ensure the chef modified the dishes I ordered to ensure they were gluten-free. It would have been sacrilegious to not order the Peking Duck as my main, seeing as that is the specialty of this fine eatery. As an accompaniment, I chose the special fried rice upon Judy's recommendation. I couldn't believe how tender and juicy the delicately carved slices of Duck were. Judy was even kind enough to have the chef prepare a special sweet & sour sauce for dipping, as the usual sauce served contained gluten. The Fried Rice was a particular treat for me because I have been searching for a Fried Rice to rival mine since taking 1st place in an international cooking competition for my Fried Rice. The dining room, although not elegant, was tastefully decorated with traditional Chinese art, and warm and inviting. The staff were most attentive throughout my dinner, and made me feel quite special. I strongly suggest giving Da Hu Peking Duck Restaurant a try the next time you're craving some exquisite Chinese cuisine.

Pretty average and loud. The food was nothing special, the duck was tasteless.

It is better to make reservations. For the dimsum I can say is average like other dimsum places I visited before. The menu is overwhelming. So many dishes to choose from. For dinner it was very nice as we had live crystal crab which I never had before. The meat is soft. The other dishes which good is the beef cube. It was so tender. The shark fin soup which is banned in US is good. Price wise, they are pretty pricey. Overall it was a good lunch and dinner

It's always…read morecomforting to have some Chinese food while abroad, and this place got the stamp of approval from 3 generations of my family!! The service was great our waiters helped us accommodate a disability within my family and recommended us some great dishes. However, the restaurant is upstairs and the elevator was broken, which made it difficult for us to get up. The food: -Seafood fried rice: Really flavorful, with generous portions of dried scallop and crab. The rice was cooked just right and the serving was big enough that for a party of 3, we had quite a bit leftover. -Snow pea leaves in garlic: A favorite vegetable of mine, and this was cooked in an amazing garlic-y soup!! Such a clean and delicious dish -Egg tofu: This was my first time having egg tofu and they were so silky and smooth. They look a bit like scallop and are served with a good amount of broccoli and mushrooms! Honestly really addicting. - Steamed trout: This fish was very pricey, but that's normal for a live fish dish. It was huge- definitely enough to serve a party of 5-6. The fish was cooked to perfection and the sauce paired amazingly with the mild trout flavor. Highly recommend if you're feeling like splurging! This place is also nice, quiet, and clean inside during dinnertime. Really amazing experience overall!
