The Boathouse - high tea spread for two on the patio

Great location and customer service…read more Scones: Decent. A little sweet (which I like), served with whipped cream and strawberry jam. Fruit: The fruit was the best part of all our meals here. It was so fresh and sweet, which I thought would be difficult to find outside of California! I also enjoyed it with cottage cheese, which is not so common at breakfast spots in California unfortunately. Tea: The tea is enjoyable but pretty average when compared to bougier tea spots like The Bruce in Stratford. It's not clear how long I should let it steep for for optimal flavor. I preferred the Winter Dream green tea, which was warm and cozy, slightly sweet. I also preferred the McCrae over the Boathouse blend. The Boathouse blend was a little basic for me, and the McCrae had a slight sweetness that I enjoyed. High Tea: Average - a good price and pleasant experience, especially if the weather is nice enough to eat outside (and catch a bald eagle flying by!). My favorite dessert was the carrot cake cupcake. Ice Cream: Yes, ice cream and tea is definitely a good idea! The banana cream pie tastes like your classic Runts banana flavor (the original banana that got wiped out) and the black cherry has plenty of big cherry pieces. Great servings, and we loved that they served them in reusable bowls instead of disposable ones. Would definitely come again!

A very charming space overlooking the water. The Boathouse is located on 116 Gordon St in Guelph…read more There is parking available right along the paved walkway (angle parking only). If you follow the route, it leads to another bigger parking lot. Parking is free! Reservations are highly recommended. My guest and I made a reservation for two for 1:30pm. It was very busy when we walked in. We got a table right by the door. There were artwork and paintings hung all around the cafe - it was cute. I ordered an afternoon tea set, as well as an extra breakfast burrito for my guest and I to share. There is a tea menu to look at all the various options they have. It was nice to see that they had many options to choose. Our set came with mini sandwiches, scones and dessert and fruits. I would definitely come back to visit - it would be nice to come in the summer and book a table out on their patio.

The Tillsonburg DQ was supposed to be open on September 3rd but upon arrival at 8:30 pm all lighted…read moresigns (logo on front of store, logo on side of store, logo at road sign, neon "open" sign in window) but one ("chill and grill") were off. We were almost going to drive away, because the interior seating lights were also off, until we saw an employee behind the counter who didn't seem to be cleaning so we drove up to the drive-thru. My brother, who was planning to meet us there, didn't stop as it looked closed. At the drive thru, after a delay answering, we asked if the dining area was open as we thought my brother and sister-in-law were meeting us. We were told it was so we went inside. We ordered our Blizzards and then told the 2 staff at the counter (drive thru employee and cashier) that we thought the place was closed because all but one sign was off and they didn't even respond, as if they didn't address it because it was intentional. I then went to the men's bathroom and there were no paper towels and the electric dryer wouldn't turn on. While eating at a table I saw a few other people outside who were confused about whether the DQ was open. One customer pulled to open the door on the front by the drive thru but it was already locked around 8:40pm. We were seated by the front window and could hear a staff laugh and make fun at the customer for encountering the locked door even though I believe that door is normally an entrance. This was unprofessional. It was clear from the situation that the employees didn't want any business and were doing what they could to discourage any while leaving a tiny bit of plausible deniability, These employees are hurting the business and led to lost sales from my family tonight.

Avoid this dairy queen!!! This was our 3rd and last time coming to this dairy queen and let me say…read moreI do feel terrible for the staff. They are incredibly over worked for what they go through. If there are more than 3 vehicles in the drive thru be prepared to wait a minimum of 40 mins. We waited almost 45 minutes with only 2 cars in front of us. This happens every single time we are there. We watch the angry customers rage while being trapped in the lineup with no way of bailing out. The inside is no better. Floors are ALWAYS sticky and it's usually pretty messy. As for the menu they are usually out of everything and you'll have to settle for your 5th choice.
