They give you one ticket when you check in. It's your jobs to put it in the box for the favorite food you had. It was a hard choice. There was a lot of creativity. Look at that biscuit sandwich with the egg on top. So good. The empanadas from Mxicanna Café were my favorite for a while. The crust was perfect and the filling meaty and slightly spicy. Southern Grit to Go provided a great mini meal with a pancake with egg and candied bacon, bread pudding, and shrimp atop grits. Hots Catering made something I had never seen. Thanksgiving in a collard green wrap with mac and cheese on the side. So good. But my ticket went to what I though=t was the best from Qulture. A lamb chop and a jumbo shrimp with grits and a dipping sauce. Both the lamb and shrimp were perfectly season and not overcooked. The line was so long I almost skipped this one. Plenty of parking nearby. I opted to park under the freeway to keep the truck shaded on a super-hot late September day. Only one recommendation. Please move the event to October or to an indoor venue. It was way too hot for both the contestants and the attendees.

**This is a Festival**…read more I attended the 2nd annual Brunchfest. I purchased my tickets about 3-4 months in advance which landed me at about $65 for a ticket for VIP. At the time I purchased my tickets, there wasn't really much on the website. Things were still getting finalized. Leading up to the event, I noticed that information was being shared on Instagram more so than the actual website. The website was not being updated, but the IG page was. Ticket prices increased to $75-$80 for VIP. Literally the night before the event, information was being sent out and instructions were being changed. It felt like a lot of disorganization leading up to the event. VIP were sent an email to arrive at 10:30 instead of 11 (when doors opened). Well, doors didn't open until about 11:10-11:15. First hour was supposed to be open bar, but then there were instructions about drink tickets that not everyone understood. There were 4 registers and only 2 bartenders. It was a bit of a mess at first. Very disorganized. Lot of angry people; especially where I was standing. The founder did his best to make things right by extending the open bar as people who were waiting in line at 10:30 didn't get in until 11:15-11:30. There were people cutting the line talking to bouncers like "Hey are you Rob? I was told to talk to Rob". And the founder was there basically telling everyone to have patience and get in line. Again, he did his best. What did go super well was the food. All the restaurants and caterers brought such delicious food and were well prepared. I really loved the food and vendor aspect. When people think brunch they want to drink. So the biggest issue was the bar and lack of staff. It felt like there were too many VIP tickets sold. The food didn't run out when I was there and I was able to get seconds if I wanted too. My goal was to try all the food and thankfully I was successful. But the ticket price for the small bites didn't feel worth it. Since this is such a new event, I think it has so much room for potential! I think it will get better in the coming years. All the mistakes that were made this year will hopefully be fixed or improved upon for next year. Hopefully they get more organized. Regarding the ticket price: again, I paid $65 and even then I thought that was a bit too high. I wouldn't pay over $65 for a ticket; even if it's VIP. So if you plan on going buy your ticket early. I think tickets should be $30-$45 a person, but not much more than that.

Here you'll find some of the best light fixtures in town! Best part? It's absolutely free and open to the community! My family would always take us to see the holiday lights when we were younger, it was an annual tradition growing up. I absolutely loved it, and still do. There's so many elaborate displays, and it's different each year! Be sure to pick up a map from Windcrest's Fire Department to help map out your holiday light route. You can spend hours here just checking out these beautiful light displays! We went on a Sunday and a sweet lady informed me that we need to head out at 11 pm. They used to have the events at Hemisfair Park, but they've (temporarily) moved it to Travis Park during construction at Hemisfair. The movies are shown weekly during the summer months only. All of the movies are family friendly, and rated PG or lower. They always have food trucks and vendors out, selling stuff to go with your movie, so you don't really need to bring your own food, but you can! It's a great place to bring a chair or blanket, and lounge out under the stars to watch a movie for free!

My favorite thing about this event: you pay the flat rate for your ticket but once you're in, it's ALL inclusive! Pro tips: Bring sunscreen, guard your dogs from peoples giant feet, bring your collapsible lawn chairs, and be sure to get there early!! BURGERS - a bunch of different kinds. Represented were hot spots like Cured, Luke, Earth Burger, Arcade, and several others. The burger samples are on the cutest, tiniest buns, which helps to not get full so fast. BBQ - underrepresented, IMHO, but what was there (Kiolbassa sausage, pulled pork) was good. Keep an eye out for the "mud bugs" from Luke if that's your sort of thing. Things tend to run out pretty early so again, get there early! BEER - there was definitely beer but also present were the ever-so-necessary various wines and Lime-a-Ritas in multiple flavors. Huge kudos to HEB for their major contributions to this event! You could definitely tell they were one of the major sponsors. If there's a vacation wheel, take it for a spin. I did and I won a free $100 restaurant gift card out of it :)

Primarily because proceeds from this event will be donated to the SAFB to help with hunger around the city. I must say that I wanted to do this last year but the spots involved guaranteed long lines. This year restaurant choices seemed more diversified with an emphasis on burgers normally on the pricier side. I don't know about you but being able to buy one for five bucks versus eleven, is a win-win situation. Restaurants responded by creating one-off burgers or even secret menu style ones. For example Sangria On The Burg created one with a Korean twist. And Papa's Burgers, ranked best burger in Texas did one with a blended meat patty. By and large businesses wanted to give back to the community in a philanthropic manner. So I went with Southtown 101 mainly because as far as bar food is concerned it goes way above expectations. Also a five dollar burger freed up funds for me to buy more soda pop. I went on Friday when the promotion began and I'm pretty sure places like Burgerboy experienced a cheeseburger zombie apocalypse. Here, to my surprise it was relatively tame. Which begged me to ask to what extent was this event advertised? There were a few a placards, some signage but I believe that patrons can be nebulous. I ordered the Swedish Mushroom Cheeseburger, which was their offering. I was anticipating maybe a scaled down version of it to reflect the price. But no it was a huge burger with the bun trying to contain the weight of the patty and toppings. I could go on about how great the burger was, how divey Southtown 101 is but this review is not about a burger nor a spot. But rather about how this event was executed. In my experience being in the know about the event was really the key. Otherwise it felt like you had to have some secret password for entrance to a burger speakeasy, or a bun-robed Illumanati. If nothing more it gave you an opportunity to consider the other burgers offered, perhaps to try at a later date. I'm interested in their peanut butter hamburger I might add. At that capacity I say it was a huge success. Friend if you're reading this I really miss this experience, the good ol' days so to speak. So while I waited in the car my husband went in and ordered us both burgers. I know that I was starving when he came back but when I took a bite out of my burger I was so amazingly surprised that there was a DELICIOUS Burger place that we have passed not knowing it was there.
