Their care, patience, and genuine compassion made an unimaginable loss a little easier to carry. The funeral home itself is beautiful, peaceful, and filled with warmth. Upon completing the forms, digitally with digital signature , as the forms instructed. Upon emailing the completed forms, Jack called me to tell me "you need to do better" and argued with me on the digital signature provided, again as the form instructed. I was then instructed that the forms needed to be filled out in pen and ink, scanned and emailed. I was also instructed that the Broward Country release form needed to be sent to the address at the bottom of that from. Again, I complied with Jack's request. Jack then called me to yell at me for sending the form to Broward when my father was not yet deceased, which he already knew from our previous conversations. He then proceeded to accuse me of lying that I told him that my father was here and then there, deceased and then not deceased. The best party of my experince with this company and man came when he said they would refuse their serices to me and my family./ Beware as this man and the organization, he gets confused easily and then attempts to berate belittle and blame you when you follow his instructions.

Yes, 5 stars! I am a cemetery explorer and Westview Community Cemetery is one of the most amazing…read morecemeteries I have ever had the privilege of visiting. The stone vaults which house the coffins are not six feet under; the tops pierce the ground. Many of the vaults are not attributed so people use spray paint to mark them for identification. Many of the vaults are attributed and adorned with flowers and other objects left by visitors. This is a much used (as recently as 2021) and much loved cemetery. After about 20 minutes walking around, I met a caretaker who explained that the land was given to the community in 1952 - by someone who's name I forget - because African Americans couldn't be buried in other cemeteries. Since then it has been run as a community cemetery with a small budget. There's no funeral home, no crematorium. Just a plot of land where a community can bury its dead. And a few men who take care of the grounds. (He also said there's an underground river which prevents deeper burials.) Disregard all the other reviews as Westview is like a beautiful folk art cemetery. (I was really appalled at the reviews and the caretaker had heard about them himself.) Use the 22nd Court entrance off Powerline. Make a right into the cemetery road. Esther Rolle's site is with other family members off this road on the Copans side. I made the first right in the cemetery, parked there and walked. The whole place is a gem.

This sad, neglected cemetery is located on the south side of Copans Rd just after you cross over…read morePowerline Rd heading east. Ringed by an industrial complex, if you didn't glance over at it you might not even know it's there. This is the fate of the Westview Community Cemetery, a historic African-American cemetery in Pompano Beach. The cemetery was created in 1952 during segregation when African-Americans could not be buried together with whites. The pioneer African American families came to this area to help build the railroad and farm but they were forced to live on the west side of the railroad tracks while the white families lived on the east side. Pompano Beach's most famous former resident, Esther Rolle, the actress famous for the 1970s sitcom Good Times resides here as does her sister Estelle Evans who was in the 1962 movie To Kill a Mockingbird. Unfortunately when the city does not run the cemeteries they are at risk for neglect. Westview is not run by a private company or the city, it is administered by a broke non profit. They don't even know who is buried in 30 percent of the graves. Vaults are sinking into the ground, while other graves are vandalized and crumbling. One gate is kept locked but the other one is only held shut with a carabiner clip so you could open it but the path is blocked by a truck. Families can't get in to visit or if they do they can't find the right grave because of the terrible record keeping. For shame Pompano! They want to invest millions of dollars into the beach while ignoring the legacy of segregation in their town. Sadly this is not the only neglected African-American cemetery in South Florida but it doesn't have to be that way. Ft. Lauderdale invested money into their African-American cemetery, Woodlawn. They owed it to the community since some of the bodies were not moved when they paved I-95 over a portion of the cemetery. Today this historic cemetery has been added to the National Register of Historic Places and it has been made worthy of the black pioneer families ho contributed to the community. They now have a peaceful final resting place here. Pompano needs to take over the cemetery and doing something similar. Families are hurting and want to visit the graves of their loved ones. Fixing up the cemetery would be a good start towards making amends to this community for the historical legacy of injustice perpetrated on them.

Later, my sister and I had a viewing so my sister could see her, and she looked beautiful- much care had been taken. From there, the whole procedure was explained and I was helped through every step of the process with great advice- the death certs, getting an urn, transporting the ashes, oks for cremation, etc. They took care of everything and did it all perfectly. They helped get obituaries into the paper- they had every detail covered. Deanna was especially great, coordinating everything and making sure it all went just right. This was so helpful in this time of grieving and having to deal with so many other details to handle our mother;s affairs. The rates were very reasonable as well. I highly recommend this office and staff.
