Her homecoming and final resting place was entrusted to Grace Funeral Home in the care of Vincent Brown, Vanassa Cooper and their staff. They provided an exceptional, memorable service. Fast forward to 2015. Due to my mother's decline in her health, I relocated her from her home in Miami, Fl to MD where I was to take care of her. My mom's only request was when she passed, I get her back to Miami and have Grace take care of her and get her to Vista Memorial Gardens where my sister was laid to rest. As I saw my mom decline, all I could think about was how I was going to get her back to Miami in the event she passed away unexpectedly. Although I kept it in the back of my mind, it wasn't a priority as her health and quality of life was at the forefront. Over the last three years, her health declined demanding round the clock care. At some point, I knew I had to keep my promise to my mom to get her back to Miami in the event of her passing. I reached out to Mr. Brown, he assured me that everything would be okay, he would take me through the process, "it'll be okay!" We started the process of getting the paperwork done. Unfortunately, within a matter of a few weeks, my mom rapidly declined. On October 1, 2023, my mother passed away peacefully at home in NC. I immediately contacted Mr. Brown. From the moment I reached out to Mr Brown, he kept his word and made the process seem seamless. Since he took care of everything in the background, I was able to focus on getting to Miami and grieve without having to worry about her arrangements. At some point, I started working with Ms Cooper to provide her with what was needed for my mom, clothing, etc..... She is one of the most kind, loving and personable people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. She made me feel like she was part of the family and wanted nothing but the best for mom. She will forever be my sister-friend! Upon my arrival to the funeral home for the service, I was greeted by Kevin and Bill. Kevin guided me to my mom to view her for approval prior to family and guest arriving. Not only did they capture mom's natural beauty but they laid her to rest so beautifully, she looked like she was sleeping not overly made up. She just looked like herself. As the service was coming to an end, suddenly an angelic, amazing, beautiful sound came out of nowhere and my God, let me tell you, as I lifted my head up and saw that Bill was kind enough to bless us with a song, it felt like the heavy feeling in the room was lightened. I had to keep myself from begging him to keep singing. While I knew I'd done the right thing by getting mom home and entrusting Grace, at that very moment, it solidified that mom, me and my family were right where we were supposed to be. As we left the funeral home to head to the cemetery, I had the pleasure of having a moment with Kevin. His words of comfort, warmth and genuine demeanor gave me the peace of mind not even my family could've given me. I could go on and on about the exceptional service and experience they provided but I'd be at a loss for words. From the owner to whoever maintains the facility and its grounds, that had anything to do with getting my mom to her final resting place, I am eternally grateful and appreciate them handling her with dignity, respect, compassion and GRACE! At no point did I feel like I was dealing with a business rather than a family that was there during my most difficult time of need. I wish I could give them more stars but there would never be enough to truly capture the quality of the service they provide. I am grateful and humble to have worked with them! I know mom is looking from the heavens with my sister saying "well done!"

A Good Shepherd…read moreFuneral Home (AGS) by far exceeded my expectations in service, attentiveness, preparation, and attention to detail. My Grandmothers funeral was nothing short of AMAZING! We knew this day would come, but we never thought it would be now. When the day came that my Grandmother passed we were a bit unprepared for what happens next. One of my Grandmother's caretakers gave us the number for A Good Shepherd's Funeral Home and advised us to contact them so they can remove her remains from the house and assist us for funeral and burial arrangements. I've never had to plan a funeral before and was completely clueless. I immediately contacted Ms. Shepherd who was extremely helpful in explaining what the next steps were and the role they would play. Based on the nurse's recommendation I went ahead and proceeded with AGS. When I arrived the following day to complete the necessary paperwork, I was not impressed with the location. It was inside of an older strip mall and I was not pleased. However, the inside was nicely finished. It featured a modern gray and white color scheme, beautiful light fixtures which made the room bright, and wood flooring. They had monitors, speakers , podium, and a large space which provided the capability for slideshows, music, speakers, and social distancing. Mr. Shepherd immediately offered his condolences. He went over the paperwork, pricing, and details for the service. He gave us a tour, and advised us of what to expect from his staff, and what we needed to do on our end. He also made a wonderful recommendation of Fairway Memorial Gardens for the burial services. He put us in contact with the young lady at Fairway which took a huge burden off of trying to seek out an affordable cemetery to lay my loved one to rest. The pricing at AGS was reasonable and affordable. His recommendation to Fairway Memorial Gardens also proved to be reasonable, and I absolutely loved the location. Following the initial meeting, we were contacted by Jerry who introduced himself as the point in contact and assisted me with every single detail leading up to the services. Jerry kept me on track, and was extremely attentive. The day before the service, I met with Quenton to go over her dressing and how I wanted her to look. They allowed me to view my Grandmother and make any last minute adjustments. I truly appreciated them allowing me to be a part of that process. Quenton did a phenomenal job with the make up, dressing, and hair. It was perfect! He paid attention to all of the details and delivered exactly what I asked for. My Grandmother would be proud to know how stunning and beautiful she looked. Her make up was realistic and very natural. Her hair was beautifully done. It looked exactly like my Grandma, stylish and beautiful. Everyone that attended the funeral was impressed and extremely satisfied with how fabulous she looked. The day of the service, Yazetta, Amos, and Quenton attended to the guests. They were attentive , proactive, and catered to every guest there. They made me feel at ease. I had nothing to do but what I came to do which was to send off my Grandmother. They took care of everything else. They kept us on track with time, escorted me and my family to and from the funeral home as well as the burial. If we needed anything they were right there. Towards the end of the service Yazetta made me a bouquet by taking a piece of flower from all of the floral arrangements and handed it to me, along with a tote with the signature book, remaining programs, and other items she was safekeeping for me. Her attentiveness was outstanding. I truly could not have asked for a better staff. I say all of this to say, do not let outside appearances deceive you. I was a little weary at first, and even thought about switching funeral homes because of where it was located. However, I am extremely impressed and in complete amazement by how it all turned out. The staff went above and beyond, and for that I am appreciative and grateful for all of the magic they created during one of the most trying times in my life. I never thought to leave a review for a funeral home, but…read more.. 5 years ago, my baby girl died in my arms. The hospital did not have burial services so I was responsible for transporting my daughter's body directly from the morgue to the funeral home. It made grieving even more difficult being asked questions like "Do you want to bury her or cremate her?" I wanted to say "NEITHER! She should be alive here with me!" Some funeral directors were cold and just focused on making a sale. Some were empathic, but Ms. Avis went the extra mile. She was very warm and genuine. She really cared about my grief and my financial situation. She even drove me to the cemetery on the day we buried my baby girl. We were able to have friends' and family's financial support with a GOFUNDME to help pay for a very beautiful headstone. When you're so deep in grief and lose a loved one unexpectedly, you NEED someone to comfort, support, and help you make decisions about things you don't have much time to think through. We were really blessed to have Ms. Avis and her team be there for us during one of the most difficult times in our life.
