Ralph T M Plantation Funeral Home - untitled

Ralph T M Plantation Funeral Home

In April, my husband suddenly died. He worked that day, was hanging out at home with me at night -…read moredidn't complain of any physical discomfort - but just died. The police - who were nothing short of wonderful: empathetic, respectful, caring, considerate and professional - asked if I had a funeral home to call. Are you kidding? Up until a short while ago my furthest thought was, who's our funeral home? We're not old people. Someone mentioned TM Ralph (paramedic? police?) and I recalled that every year we go to a city picnic to benefit the volunteer firefighters. And every year TM Ralph sponsors the event printing, etc. I know them. I like them. Sure, I want to use TM Ralph. And that reflexive decision turned out to be one of the best things ever. Even when the guys took Michael's body, they stopped - both when they arrived and left - to announce their condolances. I was in complete shock but still was touched by the genuineness of how one of the guys said it. He really meant it. He looked me directly in the eye. It would have been easier to get the body and leave but he didn't. I was very impressed. The next day, with Mom in tow, I met with Patty and made arrangements. Michael didn't want a funeral or memorial - he just wanted to be cremated and scattered in the water. Patty and Cathy Ralph are some of the proud children of TM Ralph's founders. They are each special because they deftly touch the most vulnerable. When people feel that the floor beneath them has given way, when walking seems impossible without a platform, the sisters are both caring. I never expected to be a widow. Especially at this age. I didn't know what I was doing and Patty went through a whole packet of info with me (giving it to me to take once my brain kicked back in). Because of her I knew to go to the Social Security Administration to solicit a one time $255 death benefit. Patty even provided suggestions about boat rentals for ash scatterings. Because of Cathy, I was able to lift pain from my heart with her help to sort through it. She kept me abreast of the status of the death certificate. They were wonderful. And so was Sam. He kept me aware of the ash cannister delivery ( I selected one they had to order). I enjoyed our heartfelt discussion about life and death. Within 3 days of Michael's death, one of his brothers was diagnosed with cancer that needed immediate surgery. The entire family was coming to FL. The trip was cancelled until everyone is healthy to unite. So TM Ralph worked with me to send special smaller ash canisters to the family so they could scatter Michael from the Puget to Jersey Shore. (Yes, I actually asked them if they could put Michael in a bucket - like chicken - a leg and wing here, etc. and to my shock they say they do that.) Every living thing dies. It doesn't matter what kills the living things. If one thing doesn't another will. Why Michael's heart gave out now I don't know. His health had been improving for a long time. It was just his time. I keep telling myself. But when people die, especially the most important people in our lives, we need to know where to turn. I can tell you from experience that TM Ralph will help carry the burden and lighten your load.

I never thought I'd be reviewing a cemetery but after visiting it yesterday, the experience was…read moreeye-opening enough for me to write one! Came here with family for a prayer service and watch my late nephew's ashes rest in his niche. The establishment was well-kept, very clean, ornate and gorgeous -- it really does not feel like a typical cemetery that I am accustomed to. Even though it seems like a somber moment, you don't feel sadness walking around here. I felt peace. I felt like everyone here, no matter how tragic their passing was, have moved onto the afterlife with peace. Nothing eerie at all. Even my mother was so impressed, and this was her second time visiting, that she went to the office to inquire for herself. It wasn't until yesterday that it has hit me that burial places are a lot like home-buying, the prices fluctuate, you can buy or sell your plots, and luckily here, there is NO interest rates. That means the moment you buy your spot, you can put a down payment and pay the rest of it at your leisure without worrying about interest. People go to funerals to attend for someone else but yesterday has put a thought into persepective, "What do I do when it's MY turn? What do I want?" My husband and I also had a heart to heart conversation about our preferences too... after all, my nephew had passed when we least expected it so it can happen to ANY of us. I'm glad that we had our talk and that my mom put the plan in motion for her future too. Mrs. Rosa was very helpful, even offered us waters and additional chair for our group. Even the young receptionist was very sweet and professional. Just note that this is a Catholic cemetery, one of two Catholic cemeteries in South Florida at the time of writing this review, so not only is this establishment a rarity, but also very strict. You would have to be a practicing Catholic, so yes, they will ask for the name of your parish. I will ALSO note that they use a lot of paperwork -- which may raise concern that there is no digital database for safekeeping. They do provide copies of your paperwork so KEEP THAT SAFE so in that way if someone misplaces a paper, you have your copy. All in all, a gorgeous cemetery both inside and out. Well maintained. And I saw there's a thrift shop... maybe someday when I'm in the area I can do some shopping!

It is not in the greatest part of Fort Lauderdale, but anytime I have gone, day or early evening, I never had any safety issues. In the beginning I used to have an issue with my great grandmother's vase always being missing but the last couple of times that I've gone, it's there. The grounds for the most part is clean, but they can do something about all the ant piles that are on top of these graves.. I do like that they do have a section for different religions.. For my grandmother's funeral a couple months ago some of their ground workers were arguing while we were getting ready to lower her casket, that was a bit unprofessional, but we got through our funeral. Making the final arrangements for my grandmother, was pretty quick and easy, but that was due to her paying off her plot years in advance. She was being buried with her mother, and we were told that the headstone was going to take a couple of months to possibly a year, but it got done within two months of her death, so it was great to see that they were on top of things. All in all, we have been using the cemetery for our family for a very long time and haven't had any major issues with it.
