Gorgonzola Ravioli
Yi Z.

We rode the Melbourne Visitors Shuttle to Lygon Street and took a stroll to check out all of the Italian businesses. I had read positive reviews about Da Guido on Yelp and TripAdvisor and convinced my friend to try it out. We had a big dinner planned that night and wanted to have a light lunch. Usually, Italian food isn't what I would think of when it comes to light meals but Da Guido does an great job making delicious food that's not too heavy. My friend opted for the salmon salad, which was seared to perfection. I had food envy when I saw his dish. I ordered the Gorgonzola ravioli served with walnuts. It was a bit on the richer side but I loved it. I also liked the clean and comfortable decor and the beautiful murano glass lamps and water glasses.

This place sets itself apart from the other Italian restaurants on Lygon street with a smaller menu and modern ambiance. Walking inside, you are welcomed by the rustic, modern decor and the smell of the food that is cooking in the open-layout kitchen. I will say, there is something really appealing about being able to watch the chefs cook your meal. The menu has about 10 main dishes and 10 entree/appetizers. I felt like that was the perfect number of options for us. Service was definitely on point. Before the main dishes arrived, we were presented with a complimentary small tasting cup of creamy zucchini soup with a little bit crumbled gorgonzola. It was definitely a good way to start our meals. We enjoyed our pasta dishes, though I had higher expectations from the prawns ragu. The portions of our dishes were on the smaller side but I noticed some of the other dishes were bigger. According to the staff, this restaurant has only been open for less than a year and I think they are already doing a great job!For a first experience, we were definitely impressed and looking forward to trying other dishes from the menu.

Probably the best pasta I've had outside of Florence in Italy. Restaurant is nicely decorated in slight modern style. We ordered the salad and beef carpaccio both were fresh and excellent. The squid ink Tagliolini and spaghetti with meat sauce (kitchen made for our daughter) were both cooked to perfection and so flavorful. Felt like I was back in Italy. The lamb shank was also fall off the bone tender and delicious. It's one of the best meal I had in Melbourne. Highly recommended.

This gave is a beautiful view of the promenade for when the fire show started. I ordered the lamb which was cooked deliciously medium. My husband ordered the swordfish which was also cooked just right, medium. We ordered a side of potatoes to go with our meal. To start we ordered asparagus. The preparation was delightful with the glaze and sauce evenly spread across all of the 6 asparagus. They had been cooked and chilled to the ideal texture for asparagus - not too soft and not too crunchy. We were assisted by Hannah, one of the sommeliers at the restaurant, to select an Australian wine to go with our meals. We were not disappointed in her recommendation. We our only disappointed in our inability to remember the name of the wine. Hannah also suggested when we were in Hobart to visit Sullivan's Cove Distillery for Whisky. This suggestion was even better than her wine recommendation. Now I could carry on reviewing the meals my husband and I had, but I won't. They were both equally delicious with impeccable presentation. The pace of the meal was such to allow for digestion and that is a welcome change from being in the States. The wait staff was all equally pleasant for a restaurant of this stature being in the base of The Crown Promenade Melbourne and at the higher end of the price point spectrum.

Here's what we noticed: - It was difficult to get a reservation at prime dinner hour, so we opted for a 3:30 PM late lunch/early dinner which worked out perfectly for our schedule. - The place overall has a great vibe, good music, and it is pretty small. - There were some really interesting drinks and good wines to choose from...we went with wine since we had other plans later that evening. - We decided to start with the salad with pear and honey, and then my wife and I split both the black squid ink pasta, and the special pasta that had Moreton Bay Bugs. The salad was incredible perfectly dressed... Having it first gave us away as Americans for sure, but it was perfect. The squid ink pasta was every bit as good as everyone said in reviews, and so was the special pasta. - Service was great, not overbearing. They even brought us some extra bread so we could sop up the sauce from our pasta. Bottom line: There are so many great restaurants in Melbourne and Tipo 00 is right up there and should be on your "to try list".

Any of their pizzas (including the meat lovers) are great to consume on a Saturday night for a snack before eating something more substantial later. Buy your pizza, go outside and enjoy the spits of fire overlooking you with a loud hiss along the yarra. The sauce is refreshing, with an abundance of fresh toppings. A little more cheese could be great. There are moments you would like to ask if there is a microwave nearby to heat up your pizza; although the staff can and do put it in a warm conveyor like toaster to heat up your pizza for you; although the problem with that method is that the pizza becomes too crunchy. Best to order these pizza's when fresh. The cheese is just sensational then, and your pizza is also piping hot. Amen. Great food at the right time, and the service is quite pleasant as well. The staff are fast and efficient. If there is a queue (which there sometimes will be) don't worry too much about it; you will be served in no time.
