First company I called (Cardwell) came out and charged me a dispatch fee just to tell me I needed a whole new unit - which turned out not to be true. I called D. Nelson for a second opinion, and I'm so glad I did! There was no diagnostic fee, and Don had it fixed within a few hours for $500. Just a salt-of-the-earth, honest, and hardworking guy who clearly takes pride in what he does. His colleague was also incredibly kind and professional. Dennis (and his son) were assigned to fix my heater as a part of my home warranty on the 21st, contacted me on the 22nd, and had me back in business on the 23rd. They were on time (calling when 30 min away), wiped their feet, and were quiet (while I was working from home). After checking things out, my unit was fixed in under an hour. We had used this company before so we were surprised when only one service person arrived. But it was fine. We were updating to comfort height toilets. The toilets were replaced quickly and the old ones dealt with. Apparently a one person job. I would use them again. read more

In short, if there is literally any other service available other than D Nelson, use it instead. Every interaction with D Nelson has been terrible. Zero respect for customers and zero sense of urgency or empathy. On two occasions now I've had absolutely horrible experiences working with D Nelson. They don't answer their phone, they don't keep you updated on arrival times, they don't even greet you when arriving at the house. While on the job, D Nelson complained about customers calling him, complained about being tired, questioned if we really even had an issue, and took the liberty of leisurely smoking his pipe. Once the issue was diagnosed (as exactly what I told him), he informed me he wasn't sure when he'd order the replacement part, maybe when he got home that night since he was kind of tired. He couldn't provide any real estimate on when he would place the order, when the part might arrive, or when he might be able to install it and was noticeably frustrated that I'd even have the audacity to inquire about such things. Almost a week later, D Nelson and his son resolved the issue. Regardless of how long it took to diagnose, order, and repair, in the future I will go to the ends of the world to not have to deal with D Nelson's horrendous attitude towards his customers. read more

If there were the ability to give ZERO stars, I would. ZERO. Do not use this company. DO NOT. I only had to because of my home warranty. He is rude, condescending, smokes his pipe while assessing the issue. Oh, and stated at the end of the visit when I asked if everything was Ok --"No, it's gonna blow up in an hour". I have an ill baby in the home, his sarcastic bullshit is inappropriate and unprofessional, not to mention unsettling. Again, would never use ever again. I have an old house with baseboard heater and boiler. He had the exact knowledge I needed and handled it no problem. If you are a sensitive person he might offend you, but he is open, honest and tells it like it is. He did walk right in and to the basement without saying a word at first but he answered questions and was cool to me. He has a certain sense of humor that can go over some peoples heads. Even showed me a few things with my system. I had a Yelp 5 star company come out only to try to charge me for something I didn't need at this moment, I just needed my heater on without the extra bs. read more

Have used Don's service for years and he really knows what he's doing.

This plumber was referred to me by my home warranty company. He replaced my two broken sump pumps with two lower quality ones. I expected to have them replaced with like quality and he said he buys the cheapest he can and puts them in...a sump pump replaced with a sump pump. When I voiced my concern about the lower quality being a problem, he quoted me an additional $340 to put in what I want. I was charged for the incorrect ones in ADDITION to the correct ones. He also disposed of my sump pumps which were covered under manufacturers warranty- he said they were junk so he tossed them. It was extremely unprofessional and a crappy way to do business. I would not trust his work. read more
