That's not saying much because there are only a handful of businesses in Rawdon, but this butcher's would hold its own anywhere, as proven by its six other branches in bigger towns across Yorkshire. I've been here twice, instructed by my parents to bring back a joint (of meat, they're not stoners) for the Sunday roast, and both times, Wilkinson's has served me well. On the first occasion, I chose a tender piece of lamb and on the next visit I elected to go for topside of beef. On both occasions, the guys behind the counter gave me a brief bit of chat about how best to cook it, which, combined with the high quality of the meat they handed over, really impressed me. If you didn't know they were there you would probably only notice them towards Christmas, when you could see the customers queuing out of the door and down the street. Their pies have been a Boxing Day staple at my Mum's house for my whole life (that I can remember!) They do a great range of meats and sausages and can give advice on cuts, preparation and cooking.

This time it's Yeadon, and it's on the high street behind the huge Morrisons supermarket - which it outclasses considerably as far as meat is concerned. Think huge fresh cuts of pork, lamb, beef, chicken and other lovely meats, cut and wrapped to order and quite often presented alongside a tip from the butcher who hands you it. These guys aren't just butchers, they're chefs by the sound of it - they're all willing to give you a recipe for the meat you buy when asked, and they know what they're on about. The prices are what you'd expect from a quality butcher using local produce, and are the same as all the other J B Wilkinson's, but for some unexplainable reason, I just prefer the Rawdon branch. This one's still mighty fine though.

As this is the only supermarket near to me i dont really have much choice but i love the supermarket anyway and dont think id shop anywhere else. This has everything i need under one roof and the store is clean and tidy and spacious with lots of choice. The prices arent the cheapest on some but then i do like brand makes - they do offer a value own brand if you want them offering a very good choice. They have a salad bar (with sneeze bar but still dont trust them) or you can go get lots of fresh salad items and make your own. They usually always have a good stock of fresh food which is updated constantly through the day. The staff are lovely and will go see if they have anything you request if it isnt out. The deli/meat counter is good and they offer a good choice for you. The chicken and pies counter is also a good buy with various meal deals to be had - the chicken is quite dear but they do a budget full size chicken which is gorgeous. They make fresh cream cakes/buns/pastries, etc and bread onsite which is lovely. They also have a butcher who will cut a piece of meat for you how you want or a fishmonger who does the same. All in all it is everything you could wish for under one roof at reasonable prices. The cafe is a bit slack in the service and the prices are a bit steep and admittedly the food isnt the best but you cant have everything. The queues are horrendous as there is only one till to pay for everything. They also have secure trolley bays incase you want to leave your trolley while you go somewhere else. Inside the store there is also a travel agents, bank, chemist, bagshop, cardshop and dry cleaners. The toilets could do with being checked more often and there is usually one or more out of order - there is sometimes a big queue for them.

Although I'm still none the wiser on why it's named as it is, I'm glad I stumbled across it - the bacon is some of the best I've ever tasted, while they do a few different types of sausages that taste so good you wonder if they're shortening your lifespan. The final word on this place, however, must go to its Ribeye steak. It's simply unbelievable. And yet cheap. Wow.

The chaps behind the counter are happy and jolly and helpful. They will sort out the cut of meat you want and do all the fancy filleting and such. I've always found them happy to advise on cooking methods and serving sizes as well as how to freeze or prepare the meat. The quality of their meat has never been a disappointment; it is always tasty and lean. It is the kind of place where you need to get your Christmas order in early and where there is along queue on Christmas eve!

Located halfway down Town Street and opposite the new super-sized Morrisons which has a Butcher section itself, Morton's has long been a favourite of many loyal locals in Horsforth. Supplying customers with fresh choice cuts of beef, lamb, pork and chicken amongst other meats, this place is a must if you're making a Sunday roast. If you fancy a real fry up, I would also recommend Morton's for its selection of bacon, sausage and black pudding. Perhaps the most important aspect of Morton's, however, is it's participation in the Three Dales scheme, offering customers the chance to buy the finest meats (in Yorkshire) while also supporting local farm businesses and getting one over on the supermarkets. How ever when I came to take out the ham from the bag my wife brought it home in I could not believe my eyes when I viewed a factory packed piece of Danish ham! The quality of the fresh produce has also improved, they are now stocking unusual produce and fantastic fresh store baked bread, it has been a great turn around for our local supermarket.

The supermarket has recently undergone many refurbishments in order to be improved. A wide range of…read moreitems can be found here, just as one should expect from a supermarket. There are many tills and many self-service checkout points that can easily be operated, providing that one isn't purchasing something that they may need to use an ID for or purchasing many items at once. However, if one wishes to buy an item which happens to be reduced, they can not use self-service without manually typing in the barcode as it will not present them with the lowest price. Furthermore, the staff who operate the tills also need to manually insert the barcode into the system which holds up the rest of the shoppers. The staff operating the tills, however, do appear to be extremely friendly. I, personally, would suggest fixing this function which, by the way, doesn't only affect reduced items or other "on offer" items but rather other items too occasionally for no apparent reason. The supermarket does serve its own freshly-baked bread and cookies from the bakery. Today, youths were offering tasters of said cookies which lead to me purchasing some. They, too, seemed to be very nice and helpful people. The bakery is sufficient and the produce seems to taste very nice. There is also a Deli here which is a good thing for those who wish to buy fresh meat. The wide range of items sold here means that it's likely that you'll find what you're looking for.
