I ordered 2 sandwiches and coffees which came to £34! I ordered a hot beef sandwich with caramelised onions and gravy. This is what came out. A dry ciabatta with half of it filled with roast beef. No onions and a dribble of gravy! The service and food definitely wasn't worth how much it cost. I won't be going again and I'll make sure I will be telling family and friends about this crappy experience.

Not only is this a little farm style cafe, it's also a local farm inspired shop, with a deli, butchery and organic food choices shop. They always give out samples of pies, scotch eggs, cheese and meats, whilst you can browse the many aisles of unique foods. Amazing section of chocolates and treats too, with a huge range from the popular slatteries. Eating at the cafe is always lovely, although i enjoy the breakfasts more than the lunch options. Iv had the jacket potatoes, pies and open sandwiches here before, but nothing beats the breakfasts! They are huge and come with lots of options of add ons, like extra toast and black pudding. Great range of milkshakes, cakes, biscuits and coffees too. One thing that lets it down: no dairy alternatives. Which means I miss out on the coffee. Come on Albion farm, get with the times!

This butchers is quite nice and for me stands out in terms of quality, although inside it feels a little small and squashed they do have a good selection of meat from cooked meat to chicken to sausages. They do also have gluten free sausages which they make on request, they are quite nice and it tastes like a good sausage in terms of quality, with a lack of fat too. One of my main issues here is the price, it is expensive but still you have got to pay that for the quality, but still I can't help but feel some items are a little pricey. The gluten free sausages are some of the best I've had, I normally ask for mine with extra herbs and black pepper, and they both taste and look fresh, with gluten free food normally not taking as nice, Lords do it on a whole new level to make it seem like a sausage which did contain gluten, but they are gluten free. The location is decent, yet it is slightly hidden towards the back/end of Middleton Gardens, opposite Wetherspoons in such a small spot, perhaps a bigger place to allow more customers to move about and to show their great range of products in a better manner might be something Lords should look to in the future. I'm struggling rating this place, on one hand I want to give a high rating as they probably do the best gluten free sausages I have tasted, but on another I feel certain issues with the room inside the shop and pricing mean it deserves a slightly lower rating, and because of this I feel Lords of Middleton for now deserve a very high three star rating, but I hope to move towards a four in the near future

I really think our group hit the meteorological jackpot recently - gorgeous blue sky, sunshine and…read morefallen snow (albeit bitterly cold temperatures but I prefer that to heat!). So after blowing away the cobwebs on a chilly walk along the byways of Saddleworth, soaking in the views of the valleys and reservoirs, we completed the loop and were back at The Rams Head Inn for a much-needed Sunday feast. With two nippers in tow we opted for the side seating area away from the main dining room, which meant we were nicely self-contained and also fellow diners didn't have to endure 'toddler carnage'! You can select from their main menu here, as well as their bar menu. Not wanting to pass up on the chance to try a full meal I decided on wild boar & apple terrine for starter and lamb shank for mains - both were terrific; there was a generous portion of terrine and the lamb sloughed off the bone thanks to its cooking for 24 hours. If I see lemon meringue on any menu I'm compelled to order it and so it was done. Gorgeous it was too, more so with lashings of cream (I was telling myself I needed to replenish all those calories lost climbing over walls and ascending gravelled tracks...). For lighter dishes the bar menu certainly had some tempting options; ones I'll try when we come back again. Lovers of truly hearty and quality food, served in a friendly, rustic setting and surrounded by the wilds of moorland - look no further.

Luckily a friend recently recommended the Rams Head which has a nice moderate 3 mile walk that starts from from the back of the pub- win win! Anyway, enough of that exercise malarkey and onto the food! The Rams Head offers both a main menu for their dining room and a more casual lounge menu which was can be taken in their snug type room, complete with cosy wood burning stove. As we planned on our walk afterwards (and the winter sun was getting lower in the sky) we opted for the lounge menu which has an array of hot and cold sandwiches and 'something different' items such as game terrine and locally reared pork pies. Not being able to choose, my husband and I decided to order a hot beef and gravy sandwich and a slow roasted pork with stuffing, apple sauce and gravy sandwich to share. It's all pretty casual and so you order at the bar at which point my husband was persuaded to order a portion of the homemade chips as well. This turned out to be a brilliant decision as they were some of the best chips I've had in ages! When the sandwiches arrived they came in enormous white rolls with an equally good amount of filling and two little jugs of gravy for dipping and were absolutely delicious. You could tell the meat was really good quality (the menu advises on provenance) and the gravy that came with it was proper homemade gravy, as it should be. I can't comment on the boozy side of things as we opted for a cuppa each. This actually came served in a pot with Yorkshire's finest loose leaf and a generous pot of milk- always a bug bear of mine when they scrimp on the milk. They also have an onsite shop called The Pantry which sells locally raised meat, cheese and posh tea/biscuits etc, along with what looked to be a good selection of wine. The Pantry has a small number of tables if you prefer a cafe environment to eat in. This for me is a perfect country pub and I shall be returning here asap to try out the full menu. Based on this visit I'm expecting an epic Sunday roast!

Feeling shackled by the supermarket chains? Want to break free of buying your goods at silly…read moreprices? Wish your money would go back into Yorkshire? I might have an answer for you: Leeds Kirkgate Market NOW DELIVERS. Whaaat? C'EST VRAI! Via this amazing company and website, MarketDelivered. So, MarketDelivered are an amazing wee outfit. Their story is dead cute: started with a stall, outgrew it, decided to deliver, decided to deliver from several markets. I mean, who DOESN'T prefer to spend less, and spend locally, when buying groceries? The only reason I don't do my weekly shop at Leeds Kirkgate is convenience: it's too far for me, I don't drive, and I'm always busy. I can't stand the idea of online shopping from a supermarket since they end up with so much of my money its crazy. And local fruit/veg boxes or meat boxes are ALWAYS designed for couples and families -- that sucks if you're single. MarketDelivered seem to know this. I spent around £20 on my shop for a £5 fruit box (pictured), a piece of fish, a whole sea bass, milk, eggs, and assorted veg, and it was delivered right to my door from Kirkgate. The chap was lovely! He clearly cared about his business and my produce -- he asked where I'd heard about them. Would you believe it? From an NCP car park poster! Hilarious. But, I'm spreading the word. The fruit box was generous -- from Neils, I believe: so much for a fiver I can't even begin to describe what a deal that was. The fish seemed pretty fresh (tough, because Yorkshire -- we're landlocked. Whaddya gonna do?!) and the only thing I noticed was that one or two tomatoes had started to turn. Also, they were a bit stingy on the spring onions -- only five for fifty pence? Anyway, I think that's more on Neils than these guys. The rest of the deal was excellent. Basically, I can't see any reason for me to shop at the supermarket any more. There's all the fresh fruit, baked goods, veg, meat, fish, and more that you'd need and there's a pretty decent section for other household goods too -- food cupboard, drinks, pets, baby, and even a health and beauty section. Give 'em a go!
