Let me preface my review by saying that I have no complaint with the quality of workmanship received from Dave Geer Electric. I do, however, take exception to being taken advantage of monetarily, and my low rating is based upon the owner's lack of integrity.
We contacted Dave Geer after purchasing a home that needed two minor adjustments to satisfy a city inspection. (Convert 3 outlets to CFGI and remove dead exposed wiring from outside soffit.) We also had another two minor tweaks, (separate on outlet from a wall switch control and cover exposed wires underneath an exterior electrical box). In my telephone conversation with Dave, we agreed that these were routine and easy tasks, and he expected a couple of hours, at most, to complete. He agreed to come, at $75 per hour, plus materials. After our conversation, I sent him a text, confirming the day of our appointment, with the question, "What time should I expect you?" Dave never responded.
When the day of our appointment arrived, I still had not heard back from him with a time. Unfortunately, he arrived unannounced and we missed him while running an errand. He called to reschedule and agreed to the next morning. The next day, we had not only Dave, but two other workers arrive separately, (apprentices?), with Dave leaving promptly after the other two began work. They took approx. 2.75 hours to complete my tasks. During this time, they admitted to breaking the exterior electrical box, making that particular task take longer than expected.
When our bill arrived, we were invoiced for 5.75 hours of labor and miscellaneous parts charges, which have never been explained, although we have asked repeatedly for a parts breakdown. When I called to dispute the charges, he was unrelenting in every way. Dave told me that the $75 per hour he quoted me was per man. Ok, I understand that theory, but I did not agree to two repairmen, nor did this job require a duo to complete. I was very comfortable with our first conversation and we had even discussed that everything I needed should not be more than a $200-$300. Shame on me for not getting that in writing, (lesson learned!), but shame on him for doubling my labor price expectation, and I am sure, for passing along parts charges for items that his workers were responsible for breaking.
I will not be trusting this company for future electrical service. read more
