This was actually my second visit here - I never wrote a review of my first time eating at Caracas Bistro about a year and a half ago. I am quite sure I ordered one of their arepas during my first visit as I am an arepa FANATIC! It was very busy when we visited Sunday during brunch in September 2026. The only two waiters worked their BUTTS off, taking care of everyone. 10/10 for our funny and caring server, that's for sure. This time, my boyfriend and I ordered the following for our lunch. I ordered us a side of yuca fries ($4) with guasacaca sauce ($0.50) for an appetizer. Yuca fries are pretty filling - we received 4 pieces in our order. My bf ordered a custom Venezuelan Bowl with chorizo sausage ($16) while I had the Caracas Sampler ($15). The sampler included two mini arepas (I got minis of the pabellon and the rumbera arepas - both meat heavy types), two tequenos, and two cachapas, corn cakes topped with a soft, melted Venezuelan white cheese. Surprisingly, my favorite of the trio were the tequenos, basically fried mozzarella sticks wrapped in what tasted like Pillsbury croissant dough! Yummy yummy! Five stars all around for our great waiter, great food, and great prices! Our total bill after tax and tip was a little over $45. I didn't see a credit card fee on the bill, just fyi. If you crave ethnic food in the South Bend area, absolutely come here! Or if you crave instant diabetes, get a crazy milkshake! We saw quite a few people ordering those during our visit here. I ordered a cheese arepa, Spanish chorizo arepa, and scrambled egg and cheese arepa. What I got was a cold piece of cheese in an arepa, sliced and grilled hot dog or some sort of Polish sausage in an arepa, and a sort of over easy egg and cheese in an arepa. The cold cheese seemed odd in a hot sandwich and it wasn't that good. The chorizo was not actual chorizo. Personally I really dislike over easy eggs...so that arepa was barely nibbled. So overall just disappointing. Frankly, making mistakes like this is a choice and not a good one.

Did everything with a smile! We started with their fresh made guac and the best freshly made tortilla chips we've ever had in a restaurant. We shared the verde salad...spinach, arugula, chocio corn, white beans, grilled avocado slices, jicama, pepitas, honey garlic dressing. Kinda exciting to get a salad unlike any other! So good! Hubby had the Chochinita Pibil...yucatan slow-roasted pork with all the fixings (look at the menu for details) and accompanied by their freshly made, banana leaf wrapped corn tortillas. I had the Peruvian Street Chicken, stacked high on the plate with, among other things, olive tapenade and the most delicious charred lightly smashed potatoes. It was HUGE and easily could have served 2-3 people (needless to say, we doggie-bagged mire than half of it!). Again, unique and taste-bud exploding flavors! Hubby tried, and enjoyed, their hose brewed Mexican lager which he says was crisp and malty. I cannot fail to mention the beverage I tried (on server's recommendation), the Mole Dream Mezcalita. We arrived fairly early, which gave us the opportunity to chat with our bartender, Aurelia. She was exceptional--knowledgeable about the menu, thoughtful with her recommendations, and genuinely seemed to enjoy helping us put together a great meal. I started with the Mole Dream Mezcalita, and it was unlike anything I've had before. Sweet, savory, smoky and beautifully balanced without any one flavor overpowering the others. We shared the elote, which was outstanding on its own, but the house-made tortilla chips completely elevated it. It's such a simple detail, but those are the little things that distinguish a really good restaurant from a memorable one. My husband ordered the Seafood Cataplana and was blown away by both the presentation and depth of flavor. Aurelia suggested adding rice to soak up the sauce, and she was absolutely right--you don't want to leave any of that sauce behind! I had the Cochinita Pibil, and it was equally impressive. The pork was cooked perfectly, and the combination of flavors was complex, interesting and beautifully balanced. For dessert, we once again trusted Aurelia and ordered the tres leches. WOW. Rich, delicious and the perfect finish to an already exceptional meal. The service deserves its own mention. As the evening progressed and the restaurant filled up, it was impressive to watch the team behind the bar. They operated like a well-oiled machine, constantly helping one another and anticipating what needed to be done. That kind of teamwork translates directly into the guest experience, and it showed. Even as the place became packed, the level of service never slipped. And Aurelia was simply outstanding from beginning to end. We've only eaten at one other restaurant that immediately came to mind as comparable--The Mission in Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona. That's a pretty high bar for us, so we're thrilled to have found somewhere that delivers this kind of experience much closer to home in Fort Wayne. Creative cocktails, beautifully executed food, thoughtful presentation and genuinely exceptional service. This wasn't just a great dinner--it was a great dining experience. I'd heard good things and when friends told me to pick a brunch location for my birthday - I decided to give them a try. I loved my lemon and blueberry pancakes with the sweet and pepper bacon. So good. The French toast and shrimp & grits got thumbs up from friends. I was gifted a free dessert for my birthday and chose the chocolate mousse with berries - wow, amazing.
