Mountain West Towing was the only company AAA was able to find available to take the tow, however it took 8 days from the day of the tow request for it to be completed (some of this delay can be attributed to AAA but the earliest Mountain West was planning to do the tow was 5 days after the request). The tow was 100 miles further than the 200 miles included with our membership and Mountain West Towing charged us $1245 for these 100 miles. Upon request Mountain West would not provide an itemized quote or explanation of the exorbitant cost of the tow. Over the phone we were told part of the cost was paying for a hotel room for the driver, which seeing as the total tow was 300 miles (approximately 4.5 hours) and therefore round trip the drive was only 9 hours we can't see why that would be necessary. The driver also verbally told us he was "heading home" after he dropped off the car. Seeing as Mountain West would not give us a breakdown of the cost, we will never know what we were charged for, but you can be the judge of if $12/mile is reasonable or predatory based on the fact they knew we were trapped with no other option.

After 2 of my sons were involved in a serious rollover accident, this company was called to tow their vehicle. We showed up the very first day with cash in hand, expecting to retrieve both the vehicle and essential personal belongings. Instead, we were refused access to everything, including my son's wallet and his prescription glasses, which he cannot see without. We were told these items were being held as "collateral," which is highly questionable and, to my understanding, may not even be legal. We were then told they could not provide a total cost until they heard back from an out-of-state owner (which they told us probably wouldn't be until the following day), delaying everything further while they continued to charge $85 per day in storage. This unnecessary delay felt very intentional. On the second day, we were quoted an outrageous $2,400. After contacting other towing companies in the Bozeman/Belgrade area, it became clear that this was FAR above the standard rate. When this was challenged, the price quickly and inconsistently dropped from $2,400 to $1,750, and then down again to $1,250. That kind of drastic fluctuation does not inspire confidence and raises serious concerns about how pricing is being handled. It has also been brought to our attention that there may be employees potentially inflating charges or skimming money off the top. Based on our experience, that concern does not seem unfounded. To make matters worse, the customer service was completely unacceptable. The woman answering the phone was consistently rude, dismissive, and openly unprofessional, particularly toward my daughter-in-law. In a situation involving a serious accident, a basic level of empathy and professionalism should be expected; neither was present. I have also learned that this company had previously been removed from the Montana towing rotation list, due to similar complaints. It is unclear why they have been allowed back on. Overall, this experience felt 100% dishonest, disorganized, and predatory. I strongly urge others to proceed with extreme caution, verify all pricing upfront, and document every interaction if you are forced to deal with this company. There are too many good, honest towing companies in this area, to use this scammy one. We will also be taking our complaint to the city. Thanks for showing us how NOT to run a business!
