I had the brakes done on an F150. They put the two "inside pads" on the left and the two "outside" pads on the right. I knew something felt wrong the moment I stepped on the brakes and went back. I was told they had to break in. In less than 10K miles the rotor and caliper was destroyed on the right and the left was on it's way to rotor destruction. They also used cheap replacement parts. Went to D&B in July after going to them over the years. After charging me $2650 and replacing head gasket and a lot of other things, check engine light turned on and car drove rough. Went back, they replaced knock sensor. Left and engine light turned on in a couple of miles, driving rough. Brought back, they gave new idle air control valve. Left and check engine light on in three miles and driving rough. Brought back same day and they gaslit me and told me it only happened when I drove it and then said I probably needed a new transmission. Took it to John's Auto and in 30 minutes they diagnosed and fixed the vacuum leak. It did not need any new parts and was obvious to all three mechanics and secretary the noise and issues. It drives great now. Four times D&B could not find the issue which John found in minutes. The only way they missed this easy diagnosis is they either didn't look, which makes them poor mechanics, or they are dishonest, or both. On the bright side, I have an honest, reputable new mechanic now. read more

Came in with the concern of a creaking noise on my front left suspension. They checked it out and told me I needed to replace both my left and right front control arms and slapped me with a $900 estimate. I told them since my father is a mechanic, I would prefer to drive it down to California to get the repair done down there and asked if the car was safe enough to make the trek down. The mechanic said he "wouldn't recommend this". To preface, all I had was that creaking noise. The car drove perfectly fine and in no way felt like I needed both of the control arms replaced. I decided to take my car to another mechanic for a second opinion to which he told me my control arms were fine and I just needed the sway bar links replaced. I ended up getting that simpler work done by this new mechanic and it completely fixed the issue of the noise. The car drives great and haven't had the noise come back since. I wholeheartedly believe D & B Bear Service was taking advantage of the situation and I hope others see this review to not be scammed. It's crazy that the mechanic made it sound like I couldn't drive smooth highway miles down to California to get my car fixed, yet since I last saw them I made multiple treks up to Northern Oregon on multiple different terrains with zero issues, all on the same control arms. I was checking out various service options and thought I would give D & B a shot at a transmission service for my VW. When I talked to them about it, they bragged and bragged how expert they were when it came to VW transmission service. Since my Spark Plug Coils were also due, I decided to have them replace those as well. It turns out that they couldn't actually do the transmission service because they just dont have the tools for it, and the spark plug coils went bad a few months later. I tried to get a refund on the coils but I got a lot of defensive, circle talk. I go elsewhere now. I would not recommend them for any work on your car. read more

I would not recommend this shop at all. I went in to simply get my brakes fixed. I was told that it would take a max of 45 min to get it on a rack and let me know if the rotors were ok or not. It wasn't for 3 hours until they finally called me to tell me it would take another hour and a half to finish my brakes. Which is very long for only 2 brakes. However that hour and a half turned into almost 3 hours before they were done. Don't go here unless you have an entire day to waste. read more

Les Schwab wanted me to do some major repairs. I took my car to D and B look and they said my car didn't need it. The dealer is more expensive and the want to do additional maintenance then D and B recommends. These guys are honest and they are not just in it for your money. As a comment to the other reviewer. Generally they keep your car the whole day to do repairs so if you need work done quickly it might be better to take it to another shop. read more

Just picked up my car from D & B Bear Service. Wow! It runs like a brand new car. The shop was recommended by a co-worker. I called for an appointment and they said they were busy this week. That's a good sign. I dropped off the car when they opened at 8am on a Monday. I was home by 9:30am. A dealership wanted three times what I was charged here, and another mechanic shop in a different city diagnosed the issue incorrectly. The service was great. The price was awesome, and the time it took to do the job was amazing. I came home and told my neighbor, who has had his share of repair issues with places. This place is NOT a joke! This is the shop I have been looking for since I moved to Corvallis. My truck was running bad and knowing a few things about cars, was thinking at least $1000, just to make it run right. But the guys at D & B got it fixed and fixed other problems for right around $500. Runs like a new truck! The receptionist is a nice young lady who knows her stuff and those guys under the hood are great mechanics, and most of all , HONEST! They could have charged me a lot more but didn't. They are members of the better business bureau, have been for like 30 years, and didn't charge me for things I didn't need. Just picked up my Tundra that was sick from a disintegrated air induction pump. (emissions device) I have never had such a detailed and thorough explanation of what was wrong and what was necessary to fix it. These guys did their research and spoke with Toyota technicians to figure out the repair when others may have just started replacing parts. Not only did they provide the old parts to show me, they replaced with factory Toyota parts and included the factory TSB (technical service bulletin). It was an extensive repair, but the hours they charged were very reasonable and the work appears to be top quality. Easily the best mechanic I've been to. I've brought in another vehicle before with a bad injector, which they diagnosed correctly and fixed right the first time. Very happy to be a repeat customer! read more

This place is a joke. We took our car here after some lights came on in the car. We had to wait quite a few hours just to find out that they couldn't find anything wrong. Here we are, a week later, with the car in the shop again because of an issue they didn't find! Now it's worse. I wouldn't recommend coming here. read more

UPDATE: I was recently in town running errands, and after the fourth stop, the car started but ran very rough--and the Check Engine light was on whereas it hadn't been before. I considered driving it to see if the problem cleared up on its own, but my gut told me it needed to be addressed ASAP. I drove about two miles to D & B, let them know what happened, and they assigned a mechanic to it after only a few minutes. He diagnosed a bad injector, but after he installed it, the car still wasn't running properly and they needed to keep it overnight. After telling them that I live out of town and had no one to give me a ride home, they let me borrow a shop loaner--and was willing to let me drive it the next day for my business in Salem. But early the next morning, they called and said I could pick up my car, having fixed the injector problem and installed new spark plug wires. So, not only did they give me speedy service, but treated me like family by loaning me a car--at no charge--and my car now runs like a top and better than before the sudden problem! If you have anxiety about finding a good, honest mechanic that you can count on time and time again, your worries are over. These guys are the best around and, as before, the charge for their awesome service was much less than I expected. And since this happened on Valentine's Day, I can say without exaggeration that I'm in love with their service! read more
