I have used them for a couple years for a service and repair on a Vanagon. My last experience was pretty bad. They missed alot of work that needed to be done and I wasn't informed. The work id did have them do, they used the wrong parts. It all came to light when a vehicle inspection was done for a buyer. They admitted they missed alot over the couple years I've used them. My car needed a simple piece replaced(which will take less than 10 mins). I even had the new part on me, so I really just needed 10 mins of garage time. My wife and I were traveling US20 in a heavy rain storm when our windshield wipers stopped working. More than that the wiper arm came disconnected and the whole thing was making a terrible noise. After calling Tom he said they would look at it with one hour before closing. Within 10 mins they had diagnosed the problem and we were back on the road within an hour. After being referred by G & J Automotive, daughter brought her '99 VW Golf here last Friday to have the timing belt replaced. Everyone knows how a big hassle changing the timing belt is, so automotive shops charge an "arm & leg" to have the timing belt changed. By comparison, the "authorized" VW dealer in Salem quoted an estimate 25% more than what Independent Auto Werks quoted...Service was professional and done in a timely manner with "no surprises". If you have a VW car, I would highly recommend this auto shop to repair those complicated repairs that the other shops don't want to touch. read more

Not sure why the first guy rated it 1 star if they did an incredible job...??? Anyway, this place is really the best in the area for VW repair. They're fast, reliable and trustworthy. I had my Passat's water pump & timing belt replaced and it was done correctly, quickly and reasonably priced. Recently my car was towed there yet again, for an electrical problem. Even though they couldn't repair it (requires VW of Salem to repair) and even after many tries to diagnose it, they didn't charge me a cent. Great shop. read more

Been getting most all of my service done on my Westy(s) for nearly 25 years now. Great shop that specializes in VWs and keeping the large Westy van contingent in Corvallis running. Had an unknown issue with a bad water pump bearing and cooling system problem as it was in for an issue and some other minor stuff. They got all the other stuff done and replaced the water pump by noon! Thanks so much for getting me back on the road so fast today. With a trip to search out some surf this weekend, I have at least a little peace of mind I have less if a chance of having a major breakdown. I mean, it's a 30 year old van, stuff happens! read more

Repaired my Subaru's rear wiper Motor issue. Broken wire. They didn't throw parts at it just went to the most logical and cost effective route. The tech also came out to talk to me. These guys are super awesome. I was working on my car and had some trouble removing a part, so I thought i'd ask and see if I could get some help. One of their mechanics came out and helped me break a bolt. I ordered the new part from them and I got it later that day! Unfortunately for me, the install was even more difficult than removal in a parking lot - I got most of it but one bolt was really difficult. I've had over $2200 worth of service done there and when I had issues with the service, I called and they said bring it right in and we'll check it out. I did, and they didn't have time to bother with it; apparently they don't warranty their service. Also, I was quoted a price on maintenance service and it ended up being $100 more than the quote with no explanation. On another service I had the fuel pump replaced and when I picked up my car the inside was so heavy with gas fumes I couldn't drive without the window down. It was that way for days. How do you get gasoline into the inside of the car when replacing a fuel pump? This shop has no loaner cars or drop off service, yet they charge just as much or more than the dealer. I've decided to move on and have service done by another shop. I really wished it was a decent shop, but it isn't. That reality was an expensive lesson for me. read more

I've brought my car to them twice and both times were great. It's hard to find a place that's not a dealer that specializes in German cars, and it's incredibly convenient how close to the OSU campus they are. I was able to drop my car off and walk to my next class in 5-10 minutes. I was in a bit of a time crunch and they replaced my serpentine belt in less than an hour. They were fast and professional both times and I completely trust them with my Jetta (which doesn't come easily). I would definitely recommend this establishment over a dealer, and coming here is a great way to support the local shops! read more

I have been taking my 1988 Vanagon to this shop since the early 90s, and they have always gone the extra mile for me, and then some. I lay the van on its side a year ago trying to drive on black ice. The front windshield shattered and the windshield frame got bent. They're not a body shop, but they actually managed to straighten the frame so that a new windshield could be installed. That's just one example of the outstanding service they have provided me over the years. I cannot recommend these guys more highly. read more

My 04 Jetta had a problem with turbo. Dealership at Eugene told me they have to replace the exhaust for me which is about $800. But independent mechanician found the problem is just a horse was loosen which only cost me 400 dollars to fix it!!! They are professional and always surprise me with their intelligent work. Had a great experience with this shop. My 2003 VW beetle died 3 time the night prior to me bringing it here. I took it to Les Schwab and another auto shop and neither of them had any idea what was wrong, they told me I would probably need a new battery. I called and they told me they could fit me in right away, I brought it here and Thomas had it fixed in half an hour for only $55 because it was simply a poor connection on the fuse box. They are very friendly and knowledgeable with Volkswagens and they did great work at a great price. Thomas also pointed out some other things that he said they could fix for me anytime. I have to say I was happy with their service, my beetle broke down near I5 and I had to have it towed. It was after hours, and I had to work the next day. It turned out to be my fuel pump, these guys had it diagnosed and fixed within the day and it was really reasonable. I wish I didn't live so far away, cause I need a valve job next, and probably fairly soon. ugh, cause I know it's going to be expensive, but we'll see what their quote is. read more

Place was amazing. Took my car in and same day was fixed for a great price. Also, was alerted that my car needed less work than what dealership told me I needed done.
