Oh! Zazie, Zazie Bistro, I was waiting to try you for a while. When I finally had occasion to taste…read moresomething from the menu, it left me with a feeling of disappointment mixed with a dash of irritation. The lunch menu looked very promising. I decided to have one cheese raviolo with chanterelles mushrooms and butter. Also, I chose snails with fava beans, orzo pasta, hollandaise sauce and fresh dill :). Honestly, both dishes were very tiny, heavy on butter, and were also pretty bland. I enjoyed the raviolo, but the mushrooms needed more salt at least. The snails had only texture, no taste. They skimped on pasta, but not on butter or sauce. If I didn't have a beer, I would leave the restaurant hungry. Surprisingly, I wasn't offered or suggested to order any bread or baguette with my food, and they didn't give any with the meal. It would add some balance and texture, plus it's a cheap way to make people feel happy. I thought the zabaione was too sweet, but I enjoyed it the most anyway. I also don't understand why they were making such a big deal about having reservations. I wanted to grab lunch the day before, but only tables downstairs in the empty basement were offered. The restaurant actually wasn't busy at the moment, and I could even sit at the bar with no problem. I came back the next day and the first floor had only three tables occupied during my whole visit, including mine. My server was polite, and the place was cute. I liked the solid and heavy silverware, but wished my food was tastier and the chef more thoughtful.

We had the shrimp panko, as well as beef tartare for an appetizer. Then we each ordered a main dish, a cocktail, and then split a bottle of Prosecco. Portions were just fine for what they are. You can't go into a Michelin rated restaurant expecting huge portions, but we all left feeling full and satisfied. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the sauce that came with them was delicious. The beef tartare was excellent and full of flavor. I had the pasta with shrimp and muscles and it was sooooo good. The muscles had the most flavor out of any other muscle dish I've ever tried. I would definitely come back if I'm ever in town again!

I had the Charle Breakfast for under $7 and it came with a bread basket, tea, sparkling wine, and an egg. The bread basket was served with a delicious selection of fruit and chocolate spreads. The bread was fresh and the croissants buttery and flaky. The sparkling wine was crisp and not too sweet. The cafe has plenty of sitting room with a cute upstairs balcony. I highly recommend Charlottes to anyone looking for a great breakfast, snack, or pastry. I will be back for sure!

We waited for patio seating and were happy to squeeze 4 into a table but the server didn't seem happy until we ordered alcohol and she became a little more hospitable! Anyway! Nice cool spot for people watching and the food here is really good. We started off with coffees and then Kir royales. Ordered a couple of their open faced toasts and a quiche. Everything was fresh and well presented and I loved the pea pesto ! They had gluten free bread also for my celiac friend. Pastries here didn't strike me as all that even though everyone seemed to order them around us so decided to try those elsewhere. It was a nice start to our day food and drink wise. This is a busy spot though and you may have to wait for seating .

I went there with a girlfriend for a ladies' dinner, we were the only (and then the only but one other table) guest in the restaurant and, as we had sth to celebrate, ordered for 4 times as much as you usually spend on a good dinner in Krakow. We were served by 3 waiters, one nice, one stiff and one not attentive. My glass was taken away before I finished my champagne, my cutlery as well although I still needed it, we waited an eternity to ask to the bill, another eternity to get the bill and one more to pay and to find someone who knew where our coats were put away. But the worst of all was the impression that the service guys find us two, with our chats and laughter "inappropriate" for this "noble" place. And after all we are two quite polite and well mannered girls, who do visit expensive restaurants from time to time... and a really noble restaurant feels different (e.g. you can have fun there :)) Thus, the next time I have some money to spend on eating-out in Krakow, I will do it in some other place, a place where I can ENJOY it.

I had lunch at restaurant just of Grodka today. Two restaurants in fact that share a pretty little…read morecourtyard; a French one called Kokoriko and a Polish one called The Black Duck. I asked for both the menus and a Mohito. The guy who served me was French and really good value. He talked me through both menus explaining each dish and making recommendations, and when he couldn't remember the English word for something he got one of the waitresses involved. I decided it was only fair to try something from both cuisines so settled on escargot for entree and duck with mushroom sauce for the main. I also made enquiries about the cheese plate just in case I was still hungry (a distinct possibility). The courtyard is shady and quiet and big enough for 10 tables My table is next to a little lion-head fountain set into the wall which is gurgling happily behind me. They were playing French music on the PA. I asked one of the waitresses what it was and she said: "It's French music". Reasonable answer to to a badly phrased question I suppose. The escargot was exactly what I expected. It's hard to screw up snails and they didn't; nice and chewy with a mild garlic butter and some fresh slices of baguette on the side. I asked my French friend to recommend a wine to go with the duck and he suggested a 2011 Bergerac Le Mounant which he told me comes from around Toulouse. They usually only sell this by the bottle, but he offered to do me a glass. The duck was very good. They'd baked it so the skin was quite crispy but the meat was still soft and succulent, and the mushroom sauce suited it really well. There was also a smear of sweet strawberry balsamic sauce on the plate which added an additional flavour to the dish. I ordered a side of potato purée which was a little dry, but nothing a couple of pats of butter couldn't fix. I really wasn't hungry anymore but they had cheese. Impossible to say no to cheese, so of course I said yes. I asked for another wine recommendation and was steered towards another Cotes de Bergerac; the 2010 Lacour-Peyrade. They normally serve their cheese with grapes but I asked them to replace these with fresh red onion. No problem! The cheese plate was the biggest I've ever seen and included Camembert, Brie, Gorgonzola and a soft goat's milk cheese. I really enjoyed Kokoriko/The Black Duck. The food's good, the surroundings are lovely and the staff very friendly and accommodating.

I wish I had room for more, like the honey melon & Rosette de Lyon or the beef tartare. Or any of the "sweet endings" like the mascarpone & summer fruits mousse. The service was very good; the laid-back European approach but with my server making herself visible if I needed anything. All I had to do was smile and she was right over. With the menu's wide variety, I'll have to come back at least once more before I head home and taunt my wife because she missed out on the duck leg confit, which I know would've been her first choice. If you enjoy French cuisine or would like to try it for the first time, ZaKlada is worth trying!
