We had a great experience with David our first year - 2nd year had some hiccups in communication,…read morebut overall it was fine. However year 3 was a nightmare, that has solidified we will never be back and will not recommend his services. I went to his office where he went over all the paperwork I had. On my way out, I asked the receptionist to pay and she said I could when I picked up hard copies - which is weird, because the previous year I all but begged for hard copies. So I said ok, and left. I sent numerous e-mails and called to confirm that our return was filed - finally I got a "yes". Fast forward 4 months and I still have no refund. I call and e-mail several times again and finally get a "we were waiting on payment"...TO WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED AN INVOICE. I was told I would pay upon hardcopy pickup. So I paid right then, and had my refund about a week later - so we were waiting for 4 months for NOTHING. Getting a copy of my returns was another circus - I was fine with a PDF or a hardcopy, but wanted SOMETHING (don't most people want a copy of their tax return?). It again was a month long process of calls and e-mails that went unanswered and finally I received a PDF copy. Overall, the systems in place here SUCK. Nobody has any idea what's needed for the next step, and the communication is even worse. Additionally, their pricing isn't even a bargain. For a good service, I'm willing to pay, but not when I have to chase people for months to do their job. Go anywhere else, save yourself the time.

Update. As mentioned in my previous review David has (past tense) always been proactive, promptly…read morereactive and client-centric. I have no idea was has transpired in 2021 for David to make a near 180 degree turn for the worse from years past. Leading up to an October 15 filing David's reponse times to phone, text and email were lagging at best. I was satisfied with, at mininum, getting a response and figured that my simple return would be easy enough to file on time. In retrospect I should have been more insistent with David. Current status: David missed the October 15th deadline after claiming he had all my information and that he had indeed filed on time. My taxes were filed on October 21. There is now a late fee for filing post October 15 deadline. Further my return was rejected. I found this out because I called the IRS on November 19 to personally inquire about my filing. The IRS stated that my preparer, David Airola, would have received the rejection notice shortly after the October 21 filing. I heard nothing from David. I called David on November 19. I spoke live with David and I presented him with the fix that the IRS recommended. Unfortunately I had to jump into a work meeting. I told him I would call him back which I did. He did not answer. It was the Friday before the Thanksgiving holiday. No response from David at all during that week. I called him again and left a pointed voicemail on November 29. I sent him a detailed email as well. As of the writing of this updated review I have heard nothing from David. Again, I'm saddened as to whatever has transpired with David that his client service and follow-up have taken a turn for the worse. My return is not a complex one. I pay David's rate for filing a individual (non-corporate return). His fee is higher than most. I expect service commesurate with the fee that I paid (on time and in full). The information I have provided him with is straight forward. He has even stated to me that my return is, "easy enough to take care of". It's possible that because I am not some large corporate client that I am last on his list. That's only a guess.

This year we turned in our tax information the end of January, beginning of February. We did not hear a word about any issues or need to supply additional information or documents . I sent a message on April 1st if Rich had an idea of when the taxes would be completed. I was told "I will get them done as soon as I can". April 13th I sent another message asking if we had an extension as I believed we were in the category we had to file by April 15th. Response "you don't have to file until May 15th" Out of the blue, our tax forms arrive for signatures on April 15th via email with a letter saying the information I provided made it difficult for him to figure out our taxes stating "duplicate and triplicate items" were send to him and in addition he knew I wasn't happy with the outcome last year ( we had to pay over $10,000) so find another accountant for both us and our business. Since this occurred we found out another friend who owns a business had the exact same thing happen to them with this business. I'm a Registered Nurse, not a tax accountant by any means, and we did have a complicated tax year last year. If it had been easy I would have used Turbo Tax. I called two other tax firms and told them this scenario and they told us they would sit down in person and go over issue that would arise before terminating the relationship. I called to set up a phone consultation with an individual named Jeff, at least this was according to the receptionist that answered. Of course, I was not called on the date and time this supposed phone consultation was set up. I let a few days go by, thinking maybe they were just backlogged during tax season. They never ended up calling as originally promised. I then called their office again to see what the problem was but got a voicemail during their business hours and was never called back despite leaving a message.
