Our good friends referred us to Holmes & Company for our tax solutions. Making the appointment was easy, we just called and scheduled a date and time that worked for us. Parking is super convenient and close to our home. All we needed to do was bring our file folder of tax documents for the year and Laura handled the rest. For many many many years my husband and I have been trying to prepare our own taxes from home, only leaving us frustrated, confused and hours and hours in the hole. Given new tax law changes and complexities that come into doing taxes, we felt that it was worth it to have someone else do the work for us. Laura is very professional, personable and understanding. She answered all our questions and made sure we were well informed of our specific tax situations. She is competent and well versed in tax law and we hope to continue to use her in the many years to come! I would recommend Holmes & Company for all your tax preparation needs! Thank you. read more

Completely stopped responding. It feels like a scam and possibly fraud. She initially called me during our scheduled time, said she would review all my tax documents, then never followed up with me. Who knows what she's doing with your secure information! read more

I have worked with Laura for this year, came to her after 20 years of working with HRand Blcok, She is very responsive, intime for filing. I am very happy with her. read more

We switched to Laura after a 15 years of TurboTax. We found her to be incredibly easy to work with, and responsive. She answered any question we had and always offered to follow up with more information. We decided to use Laura after starting an LLC in the 2024 tax year. She made sure everything was properly accounted for. read more

Same bad experience as others where she just doesn't respond and disappears. Came on Yelp to see if she is still practicing and to try and get answers so this explains things a bit. The first year she did my filing in 2020 things seemed ok, but 2 years later and I'm still trying to get out from the mess she made filing my 2021 taxes. read more

I highly recommend Laura Holmes Shope's tax consulting services. As a small business owner, I have used her services for several years to prepare my income tax returns. She is professional, efficient, prompt and knowledgeable as to current tax laws. What seems like a mountain to climb when tax season rolls around... she reduces my anxiety to a molehill. Thank you Laura for your exceptional service! read more

Laura has done our family's taxes for the last 5 years or so. She is fast and accurate. She is also very down to earth and the amount of peace my husband and I have at night knowing we are in her hands is irreplaceable. I would highly recommend her. We have never regretted using her services and are appreciative for her! read more

This was my first time using the services of Holmes & Company, and I could not be more pleased! Laura answered all my questions prior to filing, and submitting my documents to her secure portal was a breeze -- very well designed and easy to use. I was amazed at the speed with which my return was filed after I reviewed it -- just a few minutes. If you're looking for a tax preparer, give Laura a try! read more

I've worked with Laura for 4 years now and have always been pleased with how she handles my taxes. I would 100% refer her!!!!

Do not use this lady! I had same experience as mark g. She does NOT respond to calls or emails. Basically just fell off of the planet after initial filings and dropped the ball on a lot of it which has literally cost me thousands of dollars! Beware! read more

I had moved to folsom recently and was looking for a solid tax advisor to help file my taxes but i pleasantly surprised myself by finding a really good one in Holmes and Company. Holmes and company provided to me probably the most stress free tax filing ever so far. Laura came to our home and got down to the business straightaway and she was so thorough that i did not have to do much except provide the necessary documents needed to file my taxes and then to my surprise what i thought was going to be complex tax filing was done expertly without any issues or glitches within a hour and quarter of she being here and she also ended up saving us money by helping rectify the mistakes we have doing in our filing in the past. Overall very smooth , professional and to the point and a great pleasure to work with She is also very responsive post filing, i.e. if you have any questions you want to ask her through email , please do as she is very responsive. And for all this she charges very very reasonably for her services, considering this is california i expected her fees to be higher honestly but she priced her services really reasonably to point where it was actually cheaper by quite a bit compared to previous filings when i had used a tax advisor. I also realized that you do need to avoid the big box places that do your taxes as their charge is at least 1.5X higher than hers and to top it they dont end up saving you much money anyway. If you have or expect to have a really complex tax filing on your hands owing to your diversified investments etc. Then you can trust Holmes and company to do the job for you. Definitely a 5 star rating for me. read more

I wish Laura had put in an extension. Never did. Thousands in penalties. We also had to change to new tax preparer for our home small business bc we didn't get any communication from her. read more

You know, I just don't get it. We went to Laura for our 2013 return because of her rave reviews. I don't know how we ended up having such a terrible experience. She showed up to our first meeting and said her mother was in town and she would really like to spend the day with her. We said we understood, so she took our stuff we had gathered for her and left. 3 weeks went by and no word, even though I called several times. My husband finally had to go to her home to get her to respond. We chose to have our taxes auto withdrawn from our account and she took our bank info. Weeks later we got an overdue notice. When I finally contacted her, she didn't remember we wanted to auto pay. She did pay the penalty we incurred, so I appreciated that. Flash forward to today, 2015, and we just got a notice from the IRS saying we owe $190,815 for our 2013 taxes! Sorry this is long, but I wanted to detail the terrible experience we had, that is still haunting us today. read more

We hired Laura Holmes to prepare both our 2014 and 2015 taxes. She came to our house in the evening and was able to get everything done in under 1 hour. 2015 taxes went even faster since she had all our information from the previous year. She filed the taxes for us and provided us with a copy for our records. She is friendly, knowledgeable, punctual, and communicated well over email. I will definitely continue to hire her for our income tax preparation. I've recommended her to family and friends. read more

Our first experience with Laura was great...in minutes of meeting with us, she found an error on our previous year tax return and filed a correction. She filed our 2019 taxes and all was great. Unfortunately, since then, I'm not sure where she disappeared to. I reached out before Christmas to ask for advice on a bill for a prior year return (different cpa) and she responded that she'd help after the holiday. After that, she completely disappeared and I feel like I was broken up with without being told. Multiple emails went unanswered. We ended up paying the bill without having any advice and are now searching for someone new to use this year. I had told my entire office how great she was, and a few of them used her as well. In speaking with them recently, she also disappeared on them as well. I sincerely hope she's okay, but I am really disappointed in the lack of communication. An out of office message or exit of business message would have been welcome. read more

Laura was a delight to work with. Very responsive/easy to schedule. Thorough and efficient throughout the actual filing process. Very organized, even shared a fantastic spreadsheet with me (sole proprietor) to help me organize deductions for next year. Extremely reasonable rate. Our financial advisor got the recommendation through another advisor, so glad she did! Strongly recommend. read more

Laura always pleasantly does our tax filing, and under 1/2 hour. So much better than fiddling with TurboTax for a weekend. And the net tax is better. read more

After years in business I have found an accountant that was willing to explain everything to me patiently in language I could understand. Laura was organized, fast, and very knowledgeable of the tax code. Last year was complicated for me as I own a small business, got married, and bought a house. She helped us sort it all out and not only file correctly but also to understand what that entails. Most importantly, she helped us get set up to keep better records and get in great shape for next year and years to come. read more

As a graduate student and mom who also works part time, I really do not have the time to sit down and do my taxes, and it all tends to get a bit confusing. Laura has done my taxes for a number of years now and I am always impressed with how knowledgable she is and the deductions she is able to get me. It's always nice to get more money back than I was expecting!!! Laura is also patient and she takes the time to walk me through all the steps needed to get them taken care of. On top of that, she is quick to get everything done and taken care of so I don't need to worry about it!! I would definitely recommend Laura Holmes to anyone and everyone who asks me about where they should get their taxes done!!! read more

I'd like to leave a GLOWING review for Laura as she's been spectacular with the handling and filing of my taxes. I work so much and have no time to do my own and the moment I tried, I realized I did not get it. 0_0! Laura has saved me two years in a row now and I cannot thank her enough! She has amazingly reasonable prices and she is very intelligent and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my fragile information. Thank you Laura for everything you do! You're just wonderful and I'm spreading the word about you to everyone I know! :-) read more

Laura is a lifesaver. She literally cut my taxes in half which was much needed! Couldn't ask for anything better in an accountant. I was worried that I submitted my bank statements to Laura too late but Laura got it all done very quickly and put me at ease. Laura is friendly, timely, and extremely helpful. I would recommend her to anyway needing a quality accountant that has your best interests at heart. Thanks again Laura!!! read more

Holmes & Company is outstanding! Laura was very quick and professional--I had my taxes filed the very same day she received my W2 and information. The process was so painless and even pleasant (yes I am sill talking about taxes). It feels great having a solid tax extraordinaire in my corner. Every so often you come across an individual who wears their integrity on their sleeve. Laura Holmes is just one of those people. What you see is what you get, and what you see and get with Laura is someone who is straightforward, sincere and genuinely connects with her communication. She is smart and when it comes to taxes, she knows her stuff. I had always thought I needed a CPA to do my returns but Laura's tax education and credentials makes that particular designation totally unnecessary. It is not my practice to do reviews but I believe outstanding service should be recognized and complimented. We need more people on Earth like Laura Holmes. read more

What can I say that hasn't already been said by others? Great pricing and hassle free. Laura makes it easy, I will never do my own taxes again! read more

I moved to Folsom recently and looked online for a tax accountant. Laura Homes had excellent reviews and responded immediately to my request for an appointment. She prepared both my LLC and personal tax returns. She made sure she had all the information she needed to get the best returns possible. The best thing was that she was able to meet me at my house, which is a boon with 2 small kids. I forgot one of the expenses, which she reminded me of before finalizing the returns. The day after I filed, I found that I had missed some share sales. I contacted her right away and she told me she would work with me to file the amended return (first time I'm doing something like this!). Great service! Would definitely recommend her services!! read more

Holmes & Company was very professional throughout the whole process. I supplied my tax information and within days got a draft return letter. I have gone with other taxes agencies and have not be nearly as satisfied. Plus this is the most I have received back from federal and state. read more

I met with Laura to consult about the best way to deal with my rental property. Although I hadn't intended to discuss ESPP (employee stock purchases), I was impressed by how familiar she was with these. My company seems to make these as difficult as possible to sum up for taxes, and I've had bad experiences with other tax advisers doing them incorrectly. Laura also made me aware of deductions for some moving expenses that I didn't realize I'd be eligible for. I just moved to the area and I'm very glad to have found someone with her skill set. read more

Laura is great. She has done our taxes for the last 6 years, always polite, and will explain everything. Looking forward (not to tax time,) but to have Laura's expert help again. read more

Between moving across the state twice and three jobs later, doing my taxes was the last thing on my mind. Laura made it easy. I have to be honest, I don't usually have my taxes done professionally, but this year, I received a ton of Limited Partnership K-1 documents and it became way too confusing for me and for Turbotax (some of the LP had sub-LP's which were LP that I owned outright). As it was, I called Laura and she took all of my paperwork and worked through the entire return in one sitting. Laura was great to work with, professional, supportive and even helped out with some other tax issues when I needed her help. I highly recommend Laura, she is very capable and very reasonably priced. Thanks for help and assistance this year! read more

I'm new to the Sacramento area after living in Stockton, CA for 9 years. I was looking for a tax professional that wasn't anything like the "commercial tax offices". After researching for people here on Yelp, I've made a couple calls. Laura Holmes was the second person I contacted. She met with me and I gave her my tax documents and explained everything to her. She had them done the next day and answered all of my questions! She's very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable when it comes to doing taxes! I would definitely do business with her again and encourage others to give her a try! read more

Let's be honest. We all dread getting our taxes done, especially by a company we don't know. There's always that tiny voice in the back of our heads thinking... "What if they don't know what they're doing and I have to pay the price". It's official, your fears have been squashed! I can't rave enough about Holmes & Company! Laura goes above and beyond to ensure you get the most money back from both federal and state. If you work in the service industry, she handles all tips, income and write offs! Her knowledge of accounting is through the roof! I live in Orange County, and have had three jobs (along with unemployment) this last year. and all I had to do was email over the information, and wa la! I got a draft return email from her within 48 hours and my tax return directly deposited into my account shortly thereafter. So whether you're close by, or a little further away, you can trust Holmes & Company to take care of all your tax needs. Her professionalism, confidentiality and promptness is unlike any other company I've encountered, and I will never go with another tax service again. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, Laura! read more
