Lamendola's Supermarket - Plate of everything delicious!

Y'all. Lamendola's Supermarket is the best kept secret for catering in and around Ascension parish…read more This is my second time ordering my Thanksgiving spread from them and I 100% have ZERO regrets. It would've costed me a small fortune to purchase all the ingredients and make everything myself. For less than that, I was able to get a fried turkey, cornbread dressing, rice dressing, macaroni and cheese, broccoli and cheese rice, sweet potato casserole, green beans, gravy, dinner rolls and a pecan pie. I ordered some peach cobbler too just for a little extra razzle dazzle. The food was delicious and the leftovers are even tastier! Huge caveat--THEY DELIVERED it to my doorstep on Thanksgiving day! The lady who delivered actually brought everything in my house and set it on my counter for me. Top notch service! If you're wanting to try things before you go out and purchase the full spread like I do, their lunch deli runs their holiday menu during the week. Stop in and grab you a plate to try it out! You won't go wrong!

I ended up getting the baked fish which came with corn, crawfish etouffee and I got the bread pudding for dessert( I paid less than $10 for this). The fish was moist a little salty but bearable. The crawfish etouffee over rice was really good and so was the corn. But the definite star of this particular meal was the bread pudding. I can honestly say the only place I've had better bread pudding was at Lil Dizzy's Cafe in New Orleans. I wish I would have gotten the name of the young lady that served me because she was awesome. Not sure when I'll work in the Gonzales area again. But I'll make it a point to come over here again when I do.

Yesterday they had a special and I went by and picked up 5 pounds of cold boiled crawfish and had those today. there was a special on, and I won't quote the price, but it was the lowest I've seen crawfish in years. I was so excited I forgot to get corn and potatoes. We were so happy when they came back after they were severely flooded in 2016. The new space is much nicer than the old one was. Over the years they have expanded their fresh seafood while sticking with only things that are truly fresh. They also have a frozen section with a great variety. They have plenty of parking, which is great because you'll need the extra space to dodge potholes the size of kiddie pools. That lot is in horrible condition!! By the time we parked, our car needed a mechanic chiropractor. Unlike the parking lot, the inside was clean and moderately busy. When it was finally our turn, I confidently ordered hot large crabs. Pointing towards the display case showcasing a pan containing a moderate amount of cold crabs, the cashier replied, "We do not have large size hot crabs, only medium size cold crabs at $7.99 a pound." I slowly turned and looked at my husband with the universal married look that says, "Did we come all this way for refrigerated disappointment?" My husband the optimistic one decided we'd go ahead and get some anyway. As the employee began filling our order, I noticed she was selecting the smallest crabs from underneath the larger ones on display. I politely asked if she could choose larger ones instead, but my request wasn't acknowledged. After asking again and still receiving no response, I requested to select the crabs myself and was not acknowledged. At that point, we decided not to complete the purchase. For us, customer service is just as important as the food. We have a rule. If the service isn't there or the product isn't what a business is known for, it's okay to walk away. We almost settled, and that's never a good idea--especially these days when every dollar counts. And let's be honest the crabs were cold and my imagination started asking questions. How long have they been sitting there? Are these today's crabs...or are we on yesterday's episode? Maybe Randy's has amazing days. Maybe people leave carrying steaming bags of giant crabs while angels sing overhead. Friday, July 24th, just wasn't one of those days. Between the obstacle-course parking lot that doesn't qualify for FEMA assistance, the missing hot crabs, and being completely ignored by employee, this trip was an empty shell of what we expected.
