No wonder Jen's classes are sold out! ** I've been to Spynergy twice now and plan to go back often in the future. I live in CA but visit the North Shore where I grew up often, and Spynergy will be part of my local exercise routine. This studio has a great sense of community around it. Many of the riders seem to know each other and there's always lots of happy friendly pre- and post-ride chatter. The instructors tell personal stories during the rides, and when I went just before Christmas they had a keg of beer outside on the sidewalk for everyone to enjoy on the way out. That was really fun and a total surprise! The bikes are nice: new, easily and intuitively adjustable and equipped with electronic read outs for pace and power. They pack 45-50 of them in a small air-conditioned room but it's not too crowded. The only less than awesome facet of Spynergy for me is the music. I know that's an instructor variable, and Jen is definitely better here. Yet the two times I've been it has been sprinkled with a good amount of old 1980s stuff and "white radio rock." Like you could definitely run into some Hall & Oates, Johnny Cougar, and Elton John. That can be okay once every dozen workouts I guess but when Cat Stevens is the beat you're trying to catch, you just turn up the tension and ride on your own, I guess. I went to sign up online for a 9:30am class with one of the owners, Jen, the very next day and discovered that even the waitlist was full. The sign of a great spinning class? I was determined to find out and so I booked a class with Jen a full week later and scored a bike (phew). I arrived 10 minutes early for class and lined up airport security style with a few dozen women outside the studio. Thank goodness it was a "warm" winter day (by Chicago standards) because no spinning class is worth standing in the cold for. The infamous Jen herself made her way thru the line to say hello to everyone. As soon as she saw me (not a typical member of her cult) she asked if I was new and welcomed me to Spynergy. Loved the warm welcome! There's nothing fancy about Spynergy (especially in comparison to flywheel & some other spinning studios), but doesn't make it any less of a good workout. Jen had amazing energy and after a few minutes on one of her bikes I understood the cult following. The music was good, but I would have loved some more current hits. Then again the ages in this class ranged from women in their 60s to New Trier students (why were they in school?) so she did a good job of choosing music that appeals to everyone. The minute I left Jen's class I booked it again for the following week (the schedule opens online one week in advance) so clearly I was a fan. I've also now tried Michelle's class, which was also a good workout. They have a large TV in front of the spinning studio where they show you which song they are playing. I'm surprised they don't use the TV to play the actual music videos, but perhaps they do in the other classes that I haven't had the pleasure of attending (yet). The walk in rate for a class here is $20, which is a bit steep for spinning, but if you buy a series of classes it averages out to almost just $13/class. Great deal based on the workouts I've experienced! I'm still bummed that Flywheel didn't cut it in Highland Park, but do think I"m going to be a very happy spinner at Spynergy.

This gym is in a great location right off Rand rd in a plaza with Cosco right next door. The gym is structured around strength, HIIT(high intensity), metabolic training, and Tabata. The workouts are only 45 mins long but because of the intensity you continue to burn calories for up to 48hrs after the workout. The gym is a good size and has a ton of equipment like battle ropes, dumb bells, kettle bells, med balls, and much more. You will leave this place feeling like you really did something. The weekly workout schedule is posted every Sunday and there are 7 different camp times each day except Saturdays there are 2 morning camps and then Sundays are closed. The gym has free childcare for all you parents that are looking for a great workout. Alex will give you one on one assessments where you talk about your goals, meal plans, and track your progress. Overall an amazing gym that is nationwide so you can visit other burns if you travel. Alex is an awesome trainer and you will be hooked to the burn you receive from these quick workouts! I did what was considered the hardest class and after my ankle was swollen and my back felt like someone kicked me in it, not to say it's there fault but I would have loved to do the 15 minute sit down first and then be able to pick a class based on my abilities, I really wanted to have a smaller support group to get on track but This definitely discouraged me from coming back and now I'm spending my vacation in the bed due to the pain. I would definitely say walk in and speak with them first so that you are not in the position I was in.

A couple of my friends actually drive upwards of an hour just to get to OrangeTheory in Evanston. So when I heard they were opening up in Bannockburn, I jumped on the chance. This site is currently in a pre-trial phase, so I get to see the bugs they're working out, etc. We early adopters get to try out the program for a couple of weeks and see what it's all about. It seems fitting they moved into the previous Sylvan location (which moved around the corner) after all of the afternoons I spent there all last year getting tutoring help for my kiddo. The idea of the program is a one-hour workout... 30 minutes cardio, 30 minutes strength training. I have to say... I am quickly reminded of just how out of shape I am. The good news is you can make the program work to your own personal level of fitness. There are "softer" men and women there as well as some serious hardbodies. Also, in the pre trial phase there doesn't seem to be any egos. You know... you go to the gym and see how much more in shape everyone is. With this program, you're really only focusing on yourself. Although, the person next to me RUNNING the whole half hour of cardio... yeah... couldn't ignore that. I, on the other hand, am a "power walker" and just fine with that. The room itself is dimly lit with huge orange orbs that give the room a cool vibe. They have a good stereo system going and seem to be picking great music so far. The headset today kept blowing on the instructor -- like I said, they're figuring out the kinks. I have a feeling when I do an official review it'll be fixed. The instructors are also new to OrangeTheory but not the kind of instructor who is just your next door neighbor who decides to go teach a class. They know what's going on but figuring out the timing of the class. Again, I don't expect these bumps to last. We are pioneering a new location after all. They are in a pretrial period through June 26 (I think) which means pretrial prices. Just a thought...

The lowest package offered allows you 4 visits a month whereas the elite package allows 8 visits a month. After a month, I realized I would see results quicker by coming twice a week. This location is very small and only has one room, but that seems to be plenty for the clientele in the area. The classes I've attended are anywhere from 5-15 people. And the classes can literally fit into anyone's schedule. There are classes 7 days a week starting as early as 5:45am all the way to 7pm. This fitness style is really geared towards non athletic to semi athletic individuals who need guidance in a workout session. If you're already a hard core exerciser, then OTF really isn't necessary for you. I enjoy it so much because the coach offers that bit of accountability that I need to keep pushing myself. I love how everyone in attendance is participating in the same thing, so it is not a gym in any sense. These are purely studios to attend a class. It's super unintimidating because every body is different and you really cannot base your stats against someone else's. Overall, this studio is clean and offers all necessities. I've experienced very friendly staff as well!

I've been a member on and off here since 2014. I'm definitely someone who gets super motivated,…read moregoes multiple times per week for a few months, and then an old injury acts up and puts the kibosh on that and I have to freeze my membership and then eventually cancel it. But, they're always super chill about it and it's a no-hassle situation. That stereotypical trope of it being impossible to quit a gym is fortunately not true here, which I appreciate. I was a member for maybe 6 months in 2014, then again for 3-4 months in 2016-ish, and then somehow found uncharacteristic intrinsic motivation and joined again on January 1 of 2025. Most recently, I actually went 2-3x per week for the first 6 months, and then kinda forgot that was something I was supposed to do. But I've gone once or twice a month since then at least. The gym itself has gotten a face lift in recent years, which is nice. It's not super fancy, but it doesn't need to be. I'm not going to the gym with the goal of being a social media fitness influencer who needs an aesthetic background setting for fake workout videos. Sometimes the fluorescent lights in the weightlifting area flicker, which is kind of obnoxious and migraine-inducing while bench pressing and looking up at the ceiling, but other than that I don't really have any complaints. It also has a community vibe -- the same people seem to be there every day, some of which I remember seeing back in 2014 when I first started. It's not uncommon to hear people stop to chat and catch up with each other. (But they also won't chat with you if you don't want them to. I'm more of a heads down and work person, so I'm more of a quick "hi" and mutual nod of acknowledgement when I see the same few people who are on the same schedule that I am). Everyone is super nice. The variety of equipment is nice, with several squat racks, lots of free weights, and pretty much any cable machine you might want. They also have battle ropes and a TRX in a back studio. Also plenty of the standard cardio equipment with a few specialty/fancier pieces. I do wish they would get some heavy bags (punching bags), though. I was a member of a boxing gym for a good stretch (2017 until the start of the pandemic) and do miss it. They have a variety of classes, which I don't do so I can't speak to those, but people seem to like them. Cost is reasonable, but definitely join when they do a no-initiation fee special because initiation fees are a scam and stupid. It's more expensive than a Planet Fitness but not nearly as expensive as LifeTime or other regular gyms. It's a fair price for a community vibe and at least it's not supporting a big corporate conglomerate and instead my fee is going to the park district.

I signed up for the 5:30am class (crazy, right?) that meets M-F for 4 weeks straight. I am halfway done. Every class is something different. There are usually circuits of exercises that work out the entire body and I don't stop moving for the entire hour of my workout. Some muscles that are sore are muscles that I didn't even know I had. And I feel different, definitely much healthier and hopefully more toned when this is all over. The class is rather large at 35 or so women, but everyone there has a goal and works out to the best of their abilities. It doesn't matter what your fitness level is, you can still do this camp. I highly recommend it -- and I'm only 2 weeks in!

You actually feel sore in every muscle in the body. Surroundings are great and help during the ab workout (keeps mind off the burning). Everyday there is a different routine.
