Just completed a rapid Covid test at the drive thru lane at this Rite Aid in Levittown, PA, in…read moreanticipation of visiting family in Virginia later this week. The appointment was made online last week on the Rite Aid website, and this location had the earliest available time. I arrived a few minutes early, but found two cars lined up ahead of me. By the time they reached me, I was right on time. After showing my appointment email and photo ID, the test kit was passed to me in a small bag. I had read the instructions prior to arrival, so I understood how the process worked. The long handled swab was in a sealed sleeve which I opened to remove. I broke it in half where indicated and gently pushed it into first one nostril and then the other. The technique was to push it as far into my nose as it would go. The directions warned that it would be uncomfortable, and it was, but not enough to cause gagging or choking. Ten rotations while in each nostril, and then carefully open the vial with the reddish liquid inside and put the swab end first into it and close the glass tube with a few turns to make it secure. When completed, I placed the vial into the sliding delivery drawer. The masked pharmacist retrieved it from there and told me that was it, and I should depart. Results in 2-3 days. All in all, a simple process, but it did require keeping calm and some manual dexterity. Took about 5-7 minutes in total. Surprised about the low level anxiety felt as I went through this. I have no symptoms and I don't think I've been exposed, but after two years of this life and aware that Omicron is so easily spread, you just never know what to expect.

Well, as my family will tell you, they love it when I'm wrong and the 7-11 in Princeton Junction is as clean and modern as any convenience outlet in central Jersey. Bright and spacious I might even consider eating something that originated here (when no one is looking of course.) Let's not go crazy, I'll start with coffee and gasoline and work my way up. The coffee in particular is a terrific eye opener as you watch with incredulity as the attendants raise the price of gas every ten minutes... but that's happening everywhere. Appointments are required, but easily obtained through their website. All you need to provide is name and address, health insurance information (if insured) and knowledge of the shots you want. Scheduling is handled directly on that site, with location convenient to you offered as alternatives. Once selected, the available dates/times are shown and you click the best for your needs. Mine was made for the following week. Upon arrival, I checked in with the pharmacy, showed my photo ID, vaccination history card and health insurance information, answered a few questions about Covid symptoms or exposure and took a seat. Within minutes, a pharmacist approached, introduced herself, and took me to a small private room where the injections were quickly given. I had two that day. Bandaids were applied to protect the tiny wound and I was out the door. No significant side effects that evening nor the next day, except for minor discomfort at the injection site. No fuss. No muss. My only suggestion would be that they make an effort to make that room more comfortable, because it appeared they were still using it for storage in addition to seeing patients.
