Over the last 3 decades massive chains such as Walgreens, CVS and Walmart have been on a rampage of forcing mom and pop business to close or buying them up and shutting their doors. This past month, I pulled the trigger and moved all my Rx's to Phillips Family Pharmacy inside of Red X in Riverside. There is probably 6 other chain pharmacies closer to my house but I knew I had to put my money where my mouth was and do the right thing. Three of my Rx's surprisingly were lower in cost than the Hy-Vee I was using; and the 4th jumped from $30 to $50. After letting the Pharmacist know of the large increase she went on line, found a coupon and applied it, decreasing the cost to $10!! So for what I was paying $50 a month, I'm now paying about $22. Something that the well meaning but overworked pharmacists at the chains would never have the time or desire to assist with. Don't even get me started with the mail order pharmacies... Great service, Great pricing and helping to keep the American Dream alive one independent business at a time.

I was puzzled as I only received partial prescription yet my insurance was billed for entire amount (they were paid for full script but only dispensed partial, and refused to fill rest). Just watch closely. Will probably get backlash for this post but if it saves anyone the pain I'm suffering cause will not have my medication then a small price to pay.

Honestly, I'd have never thought a pharmacy or pharmacist could really have a positive effect on me or my day. I'd also largely been partial to smaller, local pharmacies for the more personalized treatment, and 24-hour pharmacies because I have a rare sleep disorder that can sometimes cause conflicts with normal pharmacy hours. Finally, there's no legitimate reason why, but in the past, I'd been more likely to go to a pharmacy where health and pharmacy needs were the advertised central role of the company (e.g. CVS, Walgreens). I'd considered Walmart to be a good, low-cost option for purchasing groceries and other basic home items, but as a pharmacy, I suppose I lumped it in with other grocery store pharmacies (e.g. Target, Price Chopper, HyVee). Based on the way Ben T. has treated me, from a human perspective in addition to being a highly-competent pharmacist I trust and can always ask questions, I decided to make this Walmart pharmacy my preferred and only pharmacy. The hours are better (for me, this means open later) than almost all other pharmacies in the area, too. I'd prefer to keep this review positive, but I can also speak to the opposite treatment I've received at CVS and Walgreens locations in the area. Overall, the most common problems have involved consistency, quality of care, lousy treatment (and I honestly have realistic standards), and level of experience. Many of these pharmacies are staffed by local interns from UMKC and KU, which can lead to hit-or-miss experiences as well. In contrast, the entire pharmacy team (to my knowledge) at this Walmart pharmacy is comprised of quality, "veteran" (not to age anyone) professionals. It holds itself to high standards, all-around, which I believe is a reflection of Ben T. as its manager. I always know what kind of experience I can expect, and the pharmacy generally seems to exceed these expectations anyway. It has earned my loyal patronage, and I'm grateful for the unique level of care it provides.

While I was hospitalized a pharmacist came up to my room and explained each medication, the side effects and the importance of why I am taking that particular medicine with my condition. I still have some of my maintenance prescriptions at a closer Walgreens, but with my Anti Rejection Meds for Kidney Transplant, the only ones I trust to get them to me on time with no delays or not understanding some of the complicated insurance issues involved is the Research Medical Walgreens staff.

This is the kind of place I love to support! I know I'm supporting an individual family who take pride in what they do, and are willing to go the extra mile when needed, as opposed to a corporate chain who does everything as cheaply as possible and treats me like a number.
