I entered the store on 3-19-26 with my small dog that is a working service animal known as ESA (emotional support animal) for my mental health disabilities . once entering the store i was approached by your employee Chrissy who came off very rude and in a non professional manner told me to take my dog out of the store that the dog can not be inside the store. i addressed her that my dog was a working animal and proof of her ability and assistance as a known ESA. The employee chrissy ignored my stated facts and again addressed me very rudely saying she did not care that my animal wasn't allowed and to get the dog out of the store. I felt i showed her the nesasary proof of my dogs services so i continued to procced my business as a paying customer and approached the counter with my items. The store had several other customers inside the store that witnessed this conflict of intrest between myself and the employee as she was making comments to other customers about how i need to get my dog out of the store. she was making the comments at the counter as she was ringing other customers items up addressing them of my business of being there while i stood in the line behind these customers. she even said uner her breath to myself once i got to the counter about how i needed to get my dog out of the store that she had already told me to leave with my dog. after hearing the allications i asked of her name and made it aware i was reporting her . she caused a scene yet again in front of other customers making sligh remarks as i checked out and was walking towards the exit door. And while St. Matthews has a lot going on, it lacks convenience stores and/or bodegas. In addition, the owner and the employees are always super friendly and kind. More than once I have forgotten my wallet and they let me take my items anyway, knowing I will come back as a loyal customer. When they were out of their fried chicken, they fried some just for us. They have also been doing a lot of remodeling, so the place offers even more products. It's just a great little store in a convenient location.

In the past month, they've felt unwelcome in the store. This evening, I walked my son and daughter up to the store so they could buy some candy. I waited outside. My son came out and said that once again, the man behind the counter was rushing him. The man said, "come on, hurry up" and was tapping his hands on the counter. This is the second time this has happened. There was another incident in which my son and his friend rode scooters up to the store. They propped their scooters up against the building and were yelled at and told that they would have to pay $800 if they damaged the building. So, they left and shopped elsewhere. After we walked home tonight I drove up there and politely asked the man if there was a problem with the kids being in the store. I explained the experiences my kids have had. I asked him if he told them to hurry up. He said that he did and went on to explain that a couple of weeks ago "20 kids" came in and they did damage to the store. I feel terrible that happened to him but I told him that my kids were not part of that group and have always been polite. Not to mention, the first time he rushed my kids was several weeks ago. I explained that we support his business. He said he didn't care if it my kids were not part of the group that caused problems. His exact words were, "I am not a Walmart. If you want to shop somewhere else, you can shop somewhere else. Kids have three minutes to shop in the store and that rule is for all kids." It is a bit disheartening that, after trying to talk to him and understand the situation better, he basically told me to shop elsewhere. We won't be shopping at the St. Matthews Mini Mart again. We love to support local businesses so this is a bit disappointing. If you have kids who like to shop there, you may want to supervise them.

It's in a central part of downtown, making it easy to run to on a short break and they aren't just open week days for lunch. This shop really was direly needed and I'm happy to see it. The shop is small and they don't have everything you could possibly want but you should be able to find something that works, be that a drink, snack or even lunch. I came after lunch time but they did advertise lunches, they were just gone so I'm not sure what they offered. The do require you spend $3 or $4 before they will run a card transaction but that's not a huge issue, just something of note and they do post that.

That's what happened on a recent Friday. Did I get a call, text, or email to tell me that the pharmacy was closing at 3pm? I did not. And on the appointment reminder ALL that information was right there, just as obvious as the sign inside the door saying the pharmacy was closing early. When I called to speak to the store manager (Cindy) her response was "The system could definitely stand some improvement". Ya think? Meanwhile the time I spent wrangling around my afternoon to make this appointment is a total waste. Thanks for absolutely no nothing.
